This study investigated the students’ perceptions of Classroom Assessment Practices (CAPs) in Malaysian Higher Education Institutions (MHEIs). The objective of this study was to explore students’ perceptions towards CAPs and investigate if there is any relationship among the students’ perceptions towards the six scales of CAPs. There were 109 participants participating in this study and they were randomly chosen from first semester of diploma students in Malaysian Higher Education Institutions (MHEIs). This study employed quantitative research method utilising questionnaire survey, adopted and adapted from Fisher, Waldrip, & Dorman (2005). The data were analysed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) software. The findings of the study suggested that the students in MHEIs agreed the CAPs implemented were congruent with planned learning, authentic and transparent,a mean to consult the lecturers and classmates, appropriately matched with their level and capability and have helped them to develop and improve their soft skillsand there was a significant positive correlation among the six scales of CAPs. The recommendations and limitations of this study were also discussed.

The aim of this study is to investigate the students’ purposes of using Facebook at Mirwais Khan Nika Zabul Institute of Higher Education, Qalat, Zabul province, Afghanistan. In this research, the quantitative research method was employed, and the data was collected from 115 students through a designed questionnaire. In addition, the respondents were selected through random sample. Additionally, the data was analyzed by implementing IBM 24 version of Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS), and found out the frequency and percentage of the items as well reported in a table. Moreover, the findings of this research reveal that learners use Facebook for several goals such as for socializing in order to be socialized in a society, getting social information, read news and for educational purposes, but they did not practice Facebook for the aims to pass their time, and share photos with their friends on the Facebook.  JEL Classification Codes: A19, B10, B25, C10, C53

This study aims to determine the relationship between mother’s secure attachment to the readiness of prepubertal girl to face first menstruation (menarche). The participants were 74 elementary students at V and VI grade in Budi Mulia Elementary School, Seturan. This study used quantitative research method. Measuring instruments were menarche preparedness scale and secure attachment scale. Hypothesis testing was conducted using a statistical technique test of Pearson Product Moment Correlation with SPSS software. The results showed a correlation coefficient (rxy) = .305 with significance level of p=.008 (p<.01), so the hypothesis was accepted. This result indicates that there is a significant positive correlation between mother’s secure attachment to the pre-pubertal girls’ readiness to face first menstruation (menarche).

Engagement for lecturer in Tridharma Perguruan Tinggi (Three Principles of Higher Education) across the higher education has been widely investigated. However, the professional lecturer implementation had not shown practical packaging and could not reach all the skills that gift practically needed in the higher education role. The study aim is to describe the professionalism development of lecturers of Islamic higher education institutions in West Sumatera, Indonesia from the aspects of education, research, and community services, as constituted in the Tridharma Perguruan Tinggi. Descriptive quantitative research method was used where the data taken from questionnaire and documentation. The population of the study includes 616 lecturers spreading from three Islamic state universities, with a sample of 62 lecturers. The finding showed that the professionalism development of the lecturers was done by designing lesson plans, pursuing doctoral education, attending conferences and workshops, involving students in community activities, and filling for intellectual property rights on their research. This indicates that the education and teaching, research and service can be used as a means of developing professional lectures at Islamic higher education institutions.

This chapter emanates from a study which sought to investigate challenges of teaching and learning computer programming in higher education. The study was conducted at Sokoine University of Agriculture. The study had three specific objectives: first, to identify learners' prior knowledge on computer programming at the time of joining the university; second, to investigate learners' self-efficacy in computer programming course; the third objective was to evaluate the learning styles used by learners in the computer programming course. The study adopted a quantitative research method, grounded in experiential learning theory. The data was collected from respondents using questionnaires and the analysis of the data was done using statistical software. The findings indicate that inadequate computer laboratories, lack of competent staff in ICT-based instructional design, inadequate teaching and learning materials, and students' lack of prior knowledge on computer programming at the time of joining the university are the main challenges.

In this paper, the authors reviewed the empirical mobile technology (MT) studies, and those focused on adopting and designing MT for students’ learning, published in SSCI journals from 2003 to 2012. It is found that the number of articles has significantly increased, particularly after 2008. Among the 74 published papers, most of them were conducted in higher education, as well as on computing domain. Furthermore, the quantitative research method was used more in MT and e-learning research. The findings in this study may provide potential direction and help policymakers in governments and researchers in professional organizations to allocate the necessary resources and prepare for supporting future research and applications of MT.

Completion of a first-semester chemistry (Chem I) course lays the foundation for understanding second-semester chemistry (Chem II) topics. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the influence of basic arithmetic skills on students’ Chem II success in understanding mathematics-grounded concepts (e.g., solutions and aqueous reactions, kinetics, equilibrium, acids and bases, solubility and equilibria, thermodynamics, electrochemistry, and nuclear chemistry). Previous studies suggest a strong correlation between arithmetic preparation and performance in general chemistry courses, though few have focused on the second-semester course. In this investigation, researchers from six higher-education institutions in Texas, USA of different sizes and with student bodies of different diversities have collaborated to determine whether the Math-Up Skills Test (MUST) is able to reliably identify at-risk students from a population of n = 1599 at the beginning of a Chem II course.
