Many workplaces encounter complex problems in preparing an optimal work scheduling to meet the 24 hours work demand especially in shift working hours. The schedule needs to consider many constraints and multi objectives at the same time. A mathematical model such as Goal programming is able to cater this kind of problems. Thus, this study was designed to provide a systematic and optimal schedule for police officers at Criminal Unit, IPD Kuala Muda, Kedah. This study is aimed to formulate the best model for the shift rotating schedule of the police officers and to find the best way to optimize the police scheduling related to the limitations, requirements of the police   station and the preferences of the police. Lingo software is used to run the model. However, only one out of three goals set for the study was achieved. The new schedule obtained shows that all police officers have the same number of working days, which is 21 days in the 28-day planning period. The new schedule produced is better than the previous manual schedule since it takes less time to prepare it without neglecting the constraints involved. To improve efficiency and flexibility on the generated schedules, it is recommended to use other methods such as hybrid swarm-based optimization and many new limitations and preferences should be also considered in the analysis.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to develop a methodology for automatically determining the optimal allocation of police officers in accordance with the division and organization of labor. Design/methodology/approach – The problem is defined as the problem of the goal programming for which the mathematical model of mixed integer programming was developed. In modeling of the scheduling problem the approach police officer/scheme, based on predefined scheduling patterns, was used. The approach is applied to real data of a police station in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Findings – This study indicates that the determination of monthly scheduling policemen is complex and challenging problem, which is usually performed without the aid of software (self-rostering), and that it can be significantly facilitated by the introduction of scheduling optimization approach. Research limitations/implications – The developed mathematical model, in its current form, can directly be applied only to the scheduling of police officers at police stations which have the same or a similar organization of work. Practical implications – Optimization of scheduling significantly reduces the time to obtain a monthly schedule. In addition, it allows the police stations to experiment with different forms of organization work of police officers and to obtain an optimal schedule for each of them in a short time. Originality/value – The problem of optimal scheduling of employees is often resolved in other fields. To the authors knowledge, this is the first time that the approach of goal programming is applied in the field of policing.

How does demographic inclusion in domestic security institutions affect security provision in divided societies? Police officers rely on information from citizens to identify problems and allocate resources efficiently. Where conflict along identity lines erodes trust between citizens and the state, the police face difficulty obtaining information, hindering their ability to provide public safety. I argue that inclusiveness in the police rank-and-file addresses this problem by fostering cooperation from previously excluded segments of society. I test this argument in Israel and its conflict between the Jewish majority and non-Jewish minority. First, a survey of 804 Israeli citizens shows that non-Jews who perceive the police as more inclusive are more willing to provide the police with information. I then use original panel data on police officer demographics at every police station in Israel over a six year period to show that increases in police inclusiveness are associated with decreases in crime.

BackgroundHow do the police officers perceive health risk, psychological distress, and work stress during the COVID-19 outbreak in China? This study explores the health risk perception, work stress, and psychological distress of police officers who worked at the front line to implement lockdown measures.Materials and MethodsWe conducted a large-scale field survey (N = 5,611) with police officers sample in the northwestern part of China from February 29 to March 7, 2020. Independent-sample T-test and ANOVA were used to analyze whether there are differences in health risk perception, work stress, and psychological distress between different groups. The regression analysis was employed to figure out the factors that influence police officers’ psychological distress.ResultsResults showed a gender difference in perceiving work stress among police officers. Also, police officers with chronic disease perceived higher health risks, more psychological distress, and higher work stress. Additionally, police officers above 45 years old significantly perceived higher health risks than young officers did. It also revealed that working hours contribute to police officers’ health risk perception, psychological distress, and work stress. Finally, our results highlight that age, working hours, chronic disease, health risk perception, and work stress significantly contribute to police officers’ psychological distress.ConclusionOur research verifies that there is a gender difference in perceiving work stress among police officers. Police officers with ongoing medical issues and above 45 years old suffer more during the COVID-19 outbreak in China. Our research suggests that the government should pay more attention to their physical health and mental health. The heavy workload containing the COVID-19 extends police officers’ working hours, causing higher health risks, work stress, and psychological distress. This study contributes to the psychological distress literature and provides a way forward to other countries struggling to contain the COVID-19.

AbstractThe police station in Irun, a border town between the Spanish and French states, has the highest inter-annual data of arrests of foreigners in irregular situations when compared to other police stations in the Basque Country. This pattern, of which many are unaware, is due to police identity checks in the border surroundings. The place where the border barrier was once, was occupied by a car toll booth constructed with a very particular structure: as a border, with cabins for police officers. In addition, the data for border readmission between these two states, under an agreement signed in 2002, requires special attention: 300,000 people were deported across the Northern border. 70% of the people detained in the French Detention Centre at Hendaia in 2015 were caught at the border. This case study on the Spanish-French border will shed some light on a disregarded topic: internal borders. Regulation in these areas is diverse. Many exceptions and specificities apply, in parallel or alternatively to the ordinary immigration rules, as a matter of exception to the law. In considering this, we need to rethink the image of a borderless Europe as stated by the Schengen agreement. Since the publication of Balibar’s essay ‘What is a border?’ (2005), the controls have multiplied all along the territory as a kaleidoscopic vision. Theeuinternal borders have never disappeared, but have mutated into a police managed model of internal borders.

Crime is a form of social action that violates legal norms relating to acts of seizing property rights of others, disturbing public order and peace, and killing one or a group of people. This has always been a concern for residents in various places in the Ngoro sub-district, therefore this information system was created to help police officers to find out where crimes have occurred. This information sfystem was created to predict the area in Ngoro sub-district using the Double Exponential Smoothing method. So that this system can predict which areas in the next month there will be no crime, and can assist the public in reporting the occurrence of criminal acts without having to go to the police station first. The Double Exponential Smoothing method was chosen by the author because this method can be used. The data used is data on theft of crime from 2017 – 2019. The results of forecasting in one village in Ngoro sub-district such as Manduro are 0.07426431198 if rounded up to 0.1 which is categorized as low crime and has a MAPE value of 7.94%. Based on the MAPE value of the forecasting results, it can be concluded that a good constant is between 0.1 – 0.3.

The research addresses the community policing developed at the Brisa do Lago Police Base, located in the city of Arapiraca - Alagoas. Assuming that public safety is a responsibility of all (State and society), Community Policing emerges as a philosophy in which the population and the police work together to identify and seek solutions to solve community problems, with essentially preventive actions. The main objective of the study was to describe how community policing was developed by the Brisa do Lago Police Station in the period from 2012 to 2016. For this purpose, case study was adopted as a method and data was collected using an instrument for a field research which included the visits to the 3rd Military Police Battalion, to the Arapiraca City Hall and to the Brisa do Lago Set, as well as interviews with residents, police officers and community leaders who interacted directly and indirectly at the Base. As the results it was evidenced that the low effective to cover the entire area of the city of Arapiraca was determinant for the closure of the Base, as also the high turnover of police officers and the non-compliance with the guidelines established by the community policing model. Regarding community policing, it was possible to observe that its philosophy was not effectively implemented in that community, being essential a preparation of all the agents involved in this process.

ABSTRACT This study aims the influence of Individual Characteristc and transformational leadership on organizational commitment with job satisfaction as intervening variable to the Lhokseumawe police station. For the dependent variable of this study is individual characteristic and transformational leadership, the independent variable is the organizatioan commitment of the police station, Intervening variables are job satisfaction. The population in this study was the Police Personal of the Lhokseumawe District Police which numbered 575, the sampling technique used proportionate stratified random sampling and obtained a sample of 170 respondents who were police officers of the Lhokseumawe police station, the research method used is a quantitative method for data analysis method using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The results of this study indicate that, individual characteristic has a significant effect on job satisfaction, transformational leadership has a significant effect on job satisfaction, leadership has not a effect on organizational commitment, transformational leadership  has a significant effect on organization commitment, job satisfaction has a significant effect on organizational commitment, individual characteristic has not effect on organizational commitment through job satisfaction as an intervening variable, transformational leadership has a significant effect on organizational commitment through job satisfaction as an intervening variable. Keywords:     Individual Characteristic, Transformational Leadership, Job Satisfaction And Organizational Commitment.

Based on the analysis of the peculiarities of the official activity of the employees of the National Police of Ukraine, it has been established that the performance of official tasks mostly takes place in extreme conditions and involves the application of police measures by law enforcement officers. This causes significant physical and psychological stress and impairs the physical health of employees. It is stated that the official activity of employees of most units of the National Police of Ukraine is determined by irregular working hours, daily shifts, frequent services for the protection of public safety and order. This leads to constant overload and, over time, to chronic fatigue. It is established that the specifics of physical activity during the performance of official duties by police officers are determined by the police department and due to the functional responsibilities of employees. The reasons that determine the physical activity of police officers have been identified: the performance of official duties related to the protection of public safety and order, service in daily uniforms; physical training in the system of police training, participation in competitions in professional and applied and other sports. There are objective and subjective indicators used to determine the amount of physical activity of police officers. Subjective are: the feeling of difficulty in performing the work, the inability to continue its implementation in the prescribed amount and pace, fatigue, and so on. It is stated that objective indicators play a key role in assessing the level of physical activity. Among them there are external and internal. External indicators include indicators that are evaluated by its external parameters: speed, pace, number of repetitions, load, and so on. To the internal - indicators of biochemical, physiological, psychological changes in the body due to specific loads. Prospects for further research are to examine the effect of stress on police memory and attention during service.
