Abstract People exercising under high ambient temperature will cause changes in physiological indicators. In order to study the thermal physiological state of the human body, we randomly selected 18 volunteers into the thermal environment exercise group and the room temperature exercise group. Two groups of volunteers performed aerobic exercises in different thermal environments. In the case of exercise performed every 15 min, the volunteers’ hemorheology, physical performance rating (RPE) value and rectal temperature (Tre) were tested. At the same time, we recorded the physiological indicators of the volunteers and simulated the thermal physiology. The results showed that there was a difference in the thermal physiology of the two groups of volunteers, and the hemorheology and the self-strain rating scale were highly correlated in the thermal environment (r=0.839, P<0.01). For this reason, we can conclude that exercising in a hot environment will make people have a heavier heat stress response, and thus render them more likely to undergo muscle fatigue. It is advised that exercising at high temperatures may be avoided as much as possible.

In this study, the blood oxygen saturation of 10 volunteers performing light, medium and heavy physical labors were examined under different climatic conditions in a chamber. The climatic conditions referred to one group of comfort environment (25°C dry bulb temperature and 50% relative humidity) and three groups of thermal environment (30°C, 35°C, 40°Cdry bulb temperature and 90% relative humidity). The results reveal the blood oxygen saturation of subjects performing same physical labor decreased in different thermal environments, the values within normal variations. The blood oxygen saturation of subjects performing different physical labors decreased in same environmental condition, the values also within normal variations. It shows in conditions of 30~40°C, 90%relative humidity, human bodies under light, medium and heavy physical labors ingested less oxygen compared with the thermal comfort environment. And it indicates the human body oxygen delivery is decreasing and in anaerobic condition in hot environment.

We studied the habitat selection and thermal biology of two sympatric Chinese skinks ( Eumeces elegans Boulenger, 1887 and Sphenomorphus indicus (Schmidt, 1928)) to test the effect of thermal preference on habitat partitioning. We measured thermal and structural attributes of the microhabitats occupied by these two skink species, as well as their field body temperatures and activity patterns. We then quantified the preferred body temperatures of these species in a thermal gradient. Compared with S. indicus, E. elegans occupied microhabitats with fewer trees, more rocks, and higher ambient temperatures. Active S. indicus were mainly found in the morning, whereas active E. elegans were found at noon. The thermal environment of the microhabitats at these two periods correlated with the skinks’ thermal preferences. Preferred temperatures of E. elegans were significantly higher than those of S. indicus. These results support (i) the hypothesis that habitat partitioning between ectotherms is related to interspecific differences in thermal requirements; (ii) the labile hypothesis that describes the adaptability of thermal physiology, because the two sympatric skinks, which select different thermal environments, differed in thermal physiology; and (iii) the cold-climate hypothesis that explains the evolution of viviparity, because viviparous S. indicus occupy colder habitats than do oviparous E. elegans.

Complete feeding of ponies is provided on the basis of data on their nutritional needs depending on age, sex, physiological state and level of productivity (the amount of milk produced and the intensity of growth of young animals). Ponies are sensitive to a lack of vitamins and mineral elements in the feed. When there is a sufficient amount of organic and mineral substances, but a lack or absence of vitamins, horses and ponies have impaired metabolism. The purpose of this work is to study the effectiveness of the use of vitamin and mineral additive MEGA-VIT in the rations of pregnant and lactating mares of Shetland pony breed. It has been found during of the researches that the vitamin and mineral additive MEGA-VIT had a positive influence on the productive and physiological indicators of animals. The cost of spent feed for the entire period of experiment in the control group was 50,6 thousand rubles, and in the experimental group it was 11,8 thousand rubles more or 23,5 %. Revenue from the sale of young horses of the control group amounted to 400 thousand rubles, and experimental group – 440 thousand rubles, this is by 40 thousand rubles more than in control group. This led to the increase in profit in the experimental group of mares by 28,1 thousand rubles and accordingly the level of profitability by 3,2 %. It has been recommended on the results have been obtained on the base of researches to include 30 g/head/day in the rations of mares of Shetland pony breed during pregnancy, and 50 g/head/day during lactation.

Abstract Purpose. Our aim was the head-to-head comparison between two automatic tools for semi-quantification of striatal dopamine transporter (DAT) specific-to-non displaceable (SBR) ratio brain SPECT values in a naturalistic cohort of patients. Procedures. We analyzed consecutive scans from one-hundred and fifty-one outpatients submitted to brain DAT SPECT for a suspected parkinsonism. Images were post-processed using a commercial (Datquant®) and a free (BasGanV2) software. Reading by expert was the gold-standard. A subset of patients with pathological or borderline scan was evaluated with the clinical Unified Parkinson’s disease rating scale, motor part (MDS-UPDRS-III). Results. SBR, putamen-to-caudate (P/C) ratio, and both P and C asymmetries were highly correlated between the two software with Pearson’s ‘r’ correlation coefficients ranging from .706 to .887. Correlation coefficients with the MDS-UPDRS III score were higher with caudate than with putamen SBR values with both software, and in general higher with BasGanV2 than with Datquant® . Datquant® correspondence with expert reading was 84.1% (94.0% by additionally considering the P/C ratio as a further index). BasGanV2 correspondence with expert reading was 80.8% (86.1% by additionally considering the P/C ratio). Conclusions. Both Datquant® and BasGanV2 work reasonably well and similarly one another in semi-quantification of DAT SPECT. Both tools have their own strength and pitfalls that must be known in detail by users in order to obtain the best help in visual reading and reporting of DAT SPECT.

BACKGROUND With thousands of health apps in app stores globally, it is crucial to systemically and thoroughly evaluate the quality of these apps due to their potential influence on health decisions and outcomes. The Mobile App Rating Scale (MARS) is the only currently available tool that provides a comprehensive, multidimensional evaluation of app quality, which has been used to compare medical apps from American and European app stores in various areas, available in English, Italian, Spanish, and German. However, this tool is not available in Arabic. OBJECTIVE This study aimed to translate and adapt MARS to Arabic and validate the tool with a sample of health apps aimed at managing or preventing obesity and associated disorders. METHODS We followed a well-established and defined “universalist” process of cross-cultural adaptation using a mixed methods approach. Early translations of the tool, accompanied by confirmation of the contents by two rounds of separate discussions, were included and culminated in a final version, which was then back-translated into English. Two trained researchers piloted the MARS in Arabic (MARS-Ar) with a sample of 10 weight management apps obtained from Google Play and the App Store. Interrater reliability was established using intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs). After reliability was ascertained, the two researchers independently evaluated a set of additional 56 apps. RESULTS MARS-Ar was highly aligned with the original English version. The ICCs for MARS-Ar (0.836, 95% CI 0.817-0.853) and MARS English (0.838, 95% CI 0.819-0.855) were good. The MARS-Ar subscales were highly correlated with the original counterparts (<i>P</i>&lt;.001). The lowest correlation was observed in the area of usability (<i>r</i>=0.685), followed by aesthetics (<i>r</i>=0.827), information quality (<i>r</i>=0.854), engagement (<i>r</i>=0.894), and total app quality (<i>r</i>=0.897). Subjective quality was also highly correlated (<i>r</i>=0.820). CONCLUSIONS MARS-Ar is a valid instrument to assess app quality among trained Arabic-speaking users of health and fitness apps. Researchers and public health professionals in the Arab world can use the overall MARS score and its subscales to reliably evaluate the quality of weight management apps. Further research is necessary to test the MARS-Ar on apps addressing various health issues, such as attention or anxiety prevention, or sexual and reproductive health.

The Behavior Rating Inventory of Executive Function–Adult Version (BRIEF-A) is a standardized rating scale of subjective executive functioning. We provide univariate and multivariate base rates (BRs) for scale/index scores in the clinical range ( T scores ≥65), reliable change, and inter-rater information not included in the Professional Manual. Participants were adults (ages = 18–90 years) from the BRIEF-A self-report ( N = 1,050) and informant report ( N = 1,200) standardization samples, as well as test–retest ( n = 50 for self, n = 44 for informant) and inter-rater ( n = 180) samples. Univariate BRs of elevated T scores were low (self-report = 3.3%–15.4%, informant report = 4.5%–16.3%). Multivariate BRs revealed the common occurrence of obtaining at least one elevated T-score across scales (self-report = 26.5%–37.3%, informant report = 22.7%–30.3%), whereas virtually none had elevated scores on all scales. Test–retest scores were highly correlated (self = .82–.94; informant = .91–.96). Inter-rater correlations ranged from .44 to .68. Significant ( p < .05) test–retest T-score differences ranged from 7 to 12 for self-report, from 6 to 8 for informant report, and from 16 to 21 points for inter-rater T-score differences. Applications of these findings are discussed.

Twelve matched pairs of small (1,001-2,000 gm birth weight) asymptomatic neonates, age 1 week, were placed in either of two frequently recommended thermal environments ("standard": abdominal skin controlled at 35.0°C to approximate the thermal state commonly realized in nurseries for premature infants; "warm": abdominal skin controlled at 36.5°C to approximate thermoneutral condition). Both groups were fed 120 calories/kg/day. Before and after 2 weeks in the test environment, the infants were placed in a simulated room environment-28°C incubator wall—for 1 hour and the change in body temperatures was measured. Cold resistance–the ability to prevent a fall of deep body temperature in the 28°C environment– was significantly greater among infants who had spent 2 weeks in the slightly cooler environment. The rate of increase in body weight and length was significantly faster in the warmer condition.

NASA's Mars Exploration Rover (MER) project involved delivering two mobile science laboratories (rovers) on the surface of Mars to remotely conduct geologic investigations, including characterization of a diversity of rocks and soils. The rovers were launched separately in 2003 and have been in operation on the surface of Mars since January 2004. The rovers underwent a comprehensive pre-launch environmental assurance program that included assembly/subsystem and system-level testing in the areas of dynamics, thermal, and electromagnetic (EMC), as well as venting/pressure, dust, radiation, and solid-particle (meteoroid, orbital debris) analyses. Due to the Martian diurnal cycles of extreme temperature swings, the susceptible hardware that were mounted outside of the thermal controlled zones also underwent thermal cycling qualification of their packaging designs and manufacturing processes. This paper summarizes the environmental assurance program for the MER project, with emphasis on the pre-launch thermal testing program for ensuring that the rover hardware would operate and survive the Mars surface temperature extremes. These test temperatures are compared with some of the Mars surface operational temperature measurements. Selected anomalies resulting from operating the rover hardware in the Mars extreme thermal environment are also presented.

Introduction Technological advances have allowed for the estimation of physiological indicators from video data. FaceReader™ is an automated facial analysis software that has been used widely in studies of facial expressions of emotion and was recently updated to allow for the estimation of heart rate (HR) using remote photoplethysmography (rPPG). We investigated FaceReader™-based heart rate and pain expression estimations in older adults in relation to manual coding by experts. Methods Using a video dataset of older adult patients with and without dementia, we assessed the relationship between FaceReader’s™ HR estimations against a well-established Video Magnification (VM) algorithm during baseline and pain conditions. Furthermore, we examined the correspondence between the Facial Action Coding System (FACS)-based pain scores obtained through FaceReader™ and manual coding. Results FaceReader’s™ HR estimations were correlated with VM algorithm in baseline and pain conditions. Non-verbal FaceReader™ pain scores and manual coding were also highly correlated despite discrepancies between the FaceReader™ and manual coding in the absolute value of scores based on pain-related facial action coding of the events preceding and following the pain response. Conclusions Compared to expert manual FACS coding and optimized VM algorithm, FaceReader™ showed good results in estimating HR values and non-verbal pain scores.
