Abstract This article presents the results of an exploratory investigation looking for new applications of augmented reality (AR) technology to enhance the sustainability of cultural tourism. The ‘sandbox’ approach was initially developed by programmers to experiment innovative solutions in safe conditions, being adopted later in other research areas for the same reason. In this case, the olive heritage at Madeira had been chosen as a background not because it is harmless, but on the contrary, for offering some challenging characteristics. The purpose is to stimulate creativity, forcing thought outside the box. This methodological path will lead to a new concept—the hyperplace of augmented visit (HAV)—conciliating several kinds of attractions in a sustainable way. The general idea is to create a hybrid tour. The user will have the possibility of interacting with a mixture of real objects and digital avatars, virtually reachable by the mediation of AR. The former will be found at the location where the user stands, and the others will be distributed in different areas of the same destination. The study leads to the conclusion that this concept will encourage travellers to spend more time in each spot and to include new points of interest, less popular or even unexplored, in their itinerary, and is also resilient in a context of public health crisis. At the close, HAV's potential will be evaluated and relevant issues mapped to design a suitable working plan to implement a pilot experience.

The future of construction industry development is the approach of the component-industrialization, the construction-breakdown, design-identical, construction-assembled, operation-data technique to maximize the life cycle value. This paper presents a general idea of Industrial Revolution (IR) 4.0 with the introduction descriptions of important aspects in Construction Industry (CI) development. The aim is to define and show possible research areas connected with the IR 4.0 into the CI. For this purpose, an analysis was made, based on the most recent literature, to point out actual needs in the CI in terms of its evolution into IR 4.0 level. It is shown that multidiscipline approaches are not investigated to create special rules, procedures and methods and know-how designed for introducing the principles of IR 4.0 in the CI. A popular from stakeholders in the CI understand how digitization is affecting each part of their trade, however, its practical applications are still in infancy stage. IR 4.0 concepts should be combined with construction production, novel expertise must be applied to the intellectual engineering of modern construction, enhance the level of incorporation, to achieve the sustainable development.

ABSTRACT Photorealistic, LiDAR-based 3D imaging provides accurate and precise documentation of existing conditions and measurable geometry. The quality and accuracy of the data generated by LiDAR cannot be economically recreated using more traditional measurement and CAD techniques. While earlier forms of this technology have been used for many years, recent innovations have provided opportunities for numerous new uses that will soon change the way many professionals obtain, analyze and process data. The use of 3D scanning equipment for new applications is gaining momentum and one such application, its use for disaster mitigation, was explored in a case study. The study reviews scanning industry applications and improvements for precision and also includes a case study in the application of a historic church post disaster, which was documented with the beneficial applications (such as safety and time savings) as well as what the authors believed to be future research areas for similar projects.

In Part I of this series I, we looked back at the 20th century and re-examined the history of Motor Development research described in Clark & Whitall’s 1989 paper “What is Motor Development? The Lessons of History”. We now move to the 21st century, where the trajectories of developmental research have evolved in focus, branched in scope, and diverged into three new areas. These have progressed to be independent research areas, co-existing in time. We posit that the research focus on Dynamical Systems at the end of the 20th century has evolved into a Developmental Systems approach in the 21st century. Additionally, the focus on brain imaging and the neural basis of movement have resulted in a new approach, which we entitled Developmental Motor Neuroscience. Finally, as the world-wide obesity epidemic identified in the 1990s threatened to become a public health crisis, researchers in the field responded by examining the role of motor development in physical activity and health-related outcomes; we refer to this research area as the Developmental Health approach. The glue that holds these research areas together is their focus on movement behavior as it changes across the lifespan.

Purpose The hospitality industry experienced an unanticipated challenge from the COVID-19 pandemic. However, research in this area is scarce. Accordingly, this study aims to unfold a three-angled research agenda to intensify the knowledge advancement in the hospitality sector. It proposes a theoretical framework by extending the protection motivation theory (PMT) to explain the guest’s intent to adopt artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics as a protective measure in reaction to COVID-19. Design/methodology/approach The research is centered on outlining the pertinent literature on hospitality management practices and the guest’s transformed behavior during the current crisis. This study intends to identify a research agenda based on investigating hospitality service trends in today’s changing times. Findings The study sets out a research agenda that includes three dimensions as follows: AI and robotics, cleanliness and sanitation and health care and wellness. This study’s findings suggest that AI and robotics may bring out definite research directions at the connection of health crisis and hospitality management, taking into account the COVID-19 crisis. Practical implications The suggested research areas are anticipated to propel the knowledge base and help the hospitality industry retrieve the COVID-19 crisis through digital transformation. AI and robotics are at the cusp of invaluable advancement that can revive the hotels while re-establish guests’ confidence in safe hotel practices. The proposed research areas are likely to impart pragmatic lessons to the hospitality industry to fight against disruptive situations. Originality/value This study stands out to be pioneer research that incorporated AI and robotics to expand the PMT and highlights how behavioral choices during emergencies can bring technological revolution.

Abstract The development of light-emitting diodes (LEDs) of different emission spectra is revolutionizing lighting technology and opening up completely new applications and research areas. The spectral irradiance of the sun reaching the Earth's surface is very complex due to radiative transfer processes within the atmosphere and ranges from the shortwave ultraviolet (UV) to longwave infrared (IR) radiation. The simulation of this spectral irradiance by artificial light sources is technically very demanding. It could be realized sufficiently so far by a combination of different light sources, mostly light bulbs, metal halide lamps and fluorescent tubes, in combination of different filters. In the present work, we are presenting a new LED Sun Simulator system, which allows simulating spectral irradiance close to natural solar spectral irradiance from 360 to 800 nm. The system generates the spectral irradiance by a combination of 23 different types of LED. The irradiance of each of the 23 different LED types can be separately controlled by software to modulate the spectra. In total, the system comprises 2,530 high-power LEDs mounted on 100 printed circuit boards (PCBs) / aluminum boards. With this system, an experimental area of one square meter can be homogeneously irradiated (irradiance with a mean variability of 2 % in the integrated range of 360 nm - 800 nm) at the distance of 1.6 m simulating the spectral irradiance of the standard reference spectrum of the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM G173-03). At maximum, the LED lighting field can reach an irradiance of 2,500 W m-2, which is more than twice than that of the brightest sunlight in Central Europe. Thus, the new system opens up multiple new applications in many research areas ranging from photobiology to human health and environmental and material sciences.

As the number of aging population increases, their Quality of Life (QoL) becomes a concern in the society. The elderly is not only vulnerable due to their chronic degeneration issues but may also be insensitive to technological innovation which could possibly improve their QoL in the Industrial Revolution 4.0. The outbreak of COVID-19 has significantly threatened their well-being in their living context and will consequentially change people’s perspective towards normal lifestyle after this public health crisis. Recent studies have highlighted the usability of the drone technology in the automation of navigation, monitoring, and load carrying which can potentially facilitate various purposes of use in our daily life. This paper reviews recent academic works related to Drone-Based Internet of Things (DIoT) technology and extracts the advantages of DIoT applications, which have the potential to assist elderly’s Activity of Daily Living (ADL) in post-epidemic time. Our results suggest that with the low energy consumption, the DIoT techniques are capable of reducing the body exposure under pandemic situation and satisfying the appreciation to normal and digital-connected life in the future. Nevertheless, the limited flying range and low technology penetration among elderly users significantly impede the implementation of DIoT application. Importantly, the DIoT technology upgrades manpower-based manual work. This paper updates to the knowledge of drone technology application in the context of elderly centre during post-pandemic.

Analysis of poetic texts of the ritual - processions (koledari, lazarice kraljice) in Southeastern Serbia has proved that poetical systems facilitate the differentiation at all levels of semantic relations connected to ritual practice: from denotatum (the current, real objects to which the individual ritual acts refers), specific designatum (mutual concept of given ritual marked with existing denotata), to universal designata (general concept of all rituals, marked with specific designata and content denotata). However with the frequent absence of indexic references (refrains, specific frames and lexemes), poetic texts have become universal in the denotation area of the general idea of fertility among all rituals, and the possibility of fragmentation/ analysis and reality segmentation, which derive from the high communication potential of the verbal system, which contributes towards making key connections with denotata on the syntagmatic plan of the ritual process. In contrast with that, musical texts (as articulated entities or music 'gestalts') are always contextualized and ritually recognizable on a paradigmatic level. In this article the differentiation of poetic and music informative values are stressed: semantic (under which meaning, the presence of objects in the text as a sign, is considered) and numeric (which assigns a numerical quantity of innovation in the text). In a semantic sense, the musical message (in relation to the idea of the ritual) and poetic message (according to a concrete object and possibly the idea of the given ritual) are highly informative. In a numerical sense, again, the values of this message are different. The musical message, at the level of the initial model (starting pattern) holds a highly informative value relating to extramusical concept (designatum). However, its numerical informative value is rapidly reduced by model repetition in further melostrophic appearances. A different principle is at stake when it comes to poetic structuralisation, in which a continuous flow of new verses (new content) produces increscent information. With such a mechanism, in a perceptual sense, the high redundancies of the musical model are being commutated. This redundancy of music content has the function of impacting and integrating it into individual and collective memory. The very thought of this parallel testifies to the frequently stressed differentiality of non-verbal and verbal communicational forms. During informational transfer 'syntax of non-verbal 'language' has to be much simpler than the syntax of spoken or written language'.

Many private radio businesses have experienced a decline in advertising revenue during the COVID-19 pandemic; however, this did not happen to Radio Sritanjung FM Banyuwangi, which implemented mediamorphosis to support its broadcasts. This study aims to map the application of mediamorphosis in supporting the broadcast of cultural programs on Radio Sritanjung FM, Banyuwangi, East Java, Indonesia. This study used a qualitative virtual ethnographic method, which requires researchers to enter two research areas: the natural world and the virtual world. Researchers interacted freely with eight informants, such as Using-ethnic figures, Muslim leaders, radio station management, local advertisers, and loyal listeners through in-depth interviews and Focus Group Discussions (FGD) to understand the ongoing mediamorphosis process in a virtual network. The research analysis using network society theory shows that the mediamorphosis process of Radio Sritanjung FM began in 2011 with Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. The latest technology application is audio streaming to support, promote, and disseminate the Using’s ethnic culture to foreign countries. The application of mediamorphosis during the COVID-19 pandemic presents a harmonization between cultural programs and Islamic religious values, strengthening the local identity of the Using-ethnicity, and increases financial benefits.
