Abstract An electro-magnetohydrodynamic (EMHD) two fluid flow and heat transfer of ionized gases through a horizontal channel surrounded by non-conducting plates in a rotating framework with Hall currents is investigated. The Hall effect is considered with an assumption that the gases are completely ionized and the strength of the applied transverse magnetic field is strong. The governing equations are solved analytically for the temperature and velocity distributions in two fluid flow regions. The numerical solutions are demonstrated graphically for various physical parameters such the Hartmann number, Hall parameter, rotation parameter, and so on. It was noticed that an increment is either due to the Hall parameter or the rotation parameter reduces the temperature in the two regions.

Abstract An unsteady magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) heat transfer two-fluid flow of ionized gases through a horizontal channel between parallel non-conducting plates, by taking Hall currents into account is studied. The governing partial differential equations that describe the flow and heat transfer under the adopted conditions are solved for the velocity and temperature distributions by a regular perturbation technique. Profiles for the velocity and temperature distributions as well the rates of heat transfer coefficient are presented graphically, and a parametric study is performed. The results reveal that the combined effects of the Hartmann number, Hall parameter, and the ratios of viscosities, heights, electrical and thermal conductivities have a significant impact on an unsteady MHD heat transfer two-ionized fluid flow characteristics.

The influence of utilizing different nanofluids types on the liquid cold plate (LCP) is numerically investigated. The thermal and fluid flow performance of LCP is examined by using pure ethylene glycol (EG), Al2O3-EG and CuO-EG. The volume fraction of the nanoparticle for both nanofluid is 2%. The finite volume method (FVM) has been used to solved 3-D steady state, laminar flow and heat transfer governing equations. The presented results indicate that Al2O3-EG able to provide the lowest surface temperature of the heater block followed by CuO-EG and EG, respectively. It is also found that the pressure drop and friction factor are higher for Al2O3-EG and CuO-EG compared to the pure EG.

Aim of the paper is to investigate effects of ohmic heating and viscous dissipation on steady flow of a viscous incompressible electrically conducting fluid in the presence of uniform transverse magnetic field and variable free stream near a stagnation point on a stretching non-conducting isothermal sheet. The governing equations of continuity, momentum, and energy are transformed into ordinary differential equations and solved numerically using Runge-Kutta fourth order with shooting technique. The velocity and temperature distributions are discussed numerically and presented through graphs. Skin-friction coefficient and the Nusselt number at the sheet are derived, discussed numerically, and their numerical values for various values of physical parameters are compared with earlier results and presented through tables.

This work presents a post-processing tool for the verification of steady-state fluid flow and heat transfer finite volume computations. It is based both on the generalized Richardson extrapolation and the Grid Convergence Index GCI. The observed order of accuracy and a error band where the grid independent solution is expected to be contained are estimated. The results corresponding to the following two and three-dimensional steady-state simulations are post-processed: a flow inside a cavity with moving top wall, an axisymmetric turbulent flow through a compressor valve, a premixed methane/air laminar flat flame on a perforated burner, and the heat transfer from an isothermal cylinder enclosed by a square duct. Discussion is carried out about the certainty of the estimators obtained with the post-processing procedure. They have been shown to be useful parameters in order to assess credibility and quality to the reported numerical solutions.

This paper introduces a theoretical and numerical study for the problem of Casson fluid flow and heat transfer over an exponentially variable stretching sheet. Our contribution in this work can be observed in the presence of thermal radiation and the assumption of dependence of the fluid thermal conductivity on the heat. This physical problem is governed by a system of ordinary differential equations (ODEs), which is solved numerically by using the differential transformation method (DTM). This numerical method enables us to plot figures of the velocity and temperature distribution through the boundary layer region for different physical parameters. Apart from numerical solutions with the DTM, solutions to our proposed problem are also connected with studying the skin-friction coefficient. Estimates for the local Nusselt number are studied as well. The comparison of our numerical method with previously published results on similar special cases shows excellent agreement.

AbstractIn this paper, we extend the results in the literature for boundary layer flow over a horizontal plate, by considering the buoyancy force term in the momentum equation. Using a similarity transformation, we transform the partial differential equations of the problem into coupled nonlinear ordinary differential equations. We first analyse several special cases dealing with the properties of the exact and approximate solutions. Then, for the general problem, we construct series solutions for arbitrary values of the physical parameters. Furthermore, we obtain numerical solutions for several sets of values of the parameters. The numerical results thus obtained are presented through graphs and tables and the effects of the physical parameters on the flow and heat transfer characteristics are discussed. The results obtained reveal many interesting behaviours that warrant further study of the equations related to non-Newtonian fluid phenomena, especially the shear-thinning phenomena. Shear thinning reduces the wall shear stress.
