AbstractOrganizational performance depends on leaders’ mastery to create a cooperative working climate and on their ability to lead a team. Effective results require emotional engagement and empathy from participants in terms of activities performed within a team in order to provide solutions to issues that need to be resolved as professionally as possible. Organizational performance refers to the degree to which the organization, with some informational, financial, and human resources, positions itself effectively on the business market. Individual performance can influence the performance of the entire organization in the short, medium or long term in a positive or negative direction. The main objectives of the study are: 1)defining the firm’s performance; 2) presenting leadership characteristics as a managerial and organizational process; 3) analysing the leadership importance on organization performance; 4)presenting the research results regarding students’ perceptions on the recognition of organizational performance. The research approach used is a combination of literature review and answers to a questionnaire. Respondents are third year students in the bachelor programme at a Business School from Romania. The research scope is to identify young people’s perceptions regarding the recognition of organizational performance. The success factors that contribute to finding the first job after they graduate are also listed. According to respondents’ answers, the main characteristics of successful students will be specified, as well as their main priorities and values in life.

The study examined the effects of employee motivation on organization performance of crews in Ethio telecom South West Region Jimma. The data were collected through self-administered questionnaire from 229 respondents and 219 were returned.  Both primary and secondary sources of data were consumed in this study. The quantitative research approach was implemented and simple random sampling technics were adopted to provide equal chances for respondents. The data were analyzed by SPSS version 20.0 using an exploratory research design and data was analyzed using correlation and regression analysis. The correlation analysis indicates that there was a positive relationship between the independent variables (employee motivation) and dependent variables (organization performance). The result of the regression implies that the independent variables (employee benefit, promotion, teamwork, training and working environment) have accounted for 78.1% of variance in the dependent variable. Based on the outcome of the study, the researchers recommend that, it is better if the company focuses on employee motivation factors, mostly Promotion, employee benefit, teamwork and training so as to improve its performance.

Abstract Background Dietary inorganic nitrate (NO3−) is a polyatomic ion, which is present in large quantities in green leafy vegetables and beetroot, and has attracted considerable attention in recent years as a potential health-promoting dietary compound. Numerous small, well-controlled laboratory studies have reported beneficial health effects of inorganic NO3− consumption on blood pressure, endothelial function, cerebrovascular blood flow, cognitive function, and exercise performance. Translating the findings from small laboratory studies into ‘real-world’ applications requires careful consideration. Main body This article provides a brief overview of the existing empirical evidence basis for the purported health-promoting effects of dietary NO3− consumption. Key areas for future research are then proposed to evaluate whether promising findings observed in small animal and human laboratory studies can effectively translate into clinically relevant improvements in population health. These proposals include: 1) conducting large-scale, longer duration trials with hard clinical endpoints (e.g. cardiovascular disease incidence); 2) exploring the feasibility and acceptability of different strategies to facilitate a prolonged increase in dietary NO3− intake; 3) exploitation of existing cohort studies to explore associations between NO3− intake and health outcomes, a research approach allowing larger samples sizes and longer duration follow up than is feasible in randomised controlled trials; 4) identifying factors which might account for individual differences in the response to inorganic NO3− (e.g. sex, genetics, habitual diet) and could assist with targeted/personalised nutritional interventions; 5) exploring the influence of oral health and medication on the therapeutic potential of NO3− supplementation; and 6) examining potential risk of adverse events with long term high- NO3− diets. Conclusion The salutary effects of dietary NO3− are well established in small, well-controlled laboratory studies. Much less is known about the feasibility and efficacy of long-term dietary NO3− enrichment for promoting health, and the factors which might explain the variable responsiveness to dietary NO3− supplementation between individuals. Future research focussing on the translation of laboratory data will provide valuable insight into the potential applications of dietary NO3− supplementation to improve population health.

AbstractSocial robots are gradually entering children’s lives in a period when children learn about social relationships and exercise prosocial behaviors with parents, peers, and teachers. Designed for long-term emotional engagement and to take the roles of friends, teachers, and babysitters, such robots have the potential to influence how children develop empathy. This article presents a review of the literature (2010–2020) in the fields of human–robot interaction (HRI), psychology, neuropsychology, and roboethics, discussing the potential impact of communication with social robots on children’s social and emotional development. The critical analysis of evidence behind these discussions shows that, although robots theoretically have high chances of influencing the development of empathy in children, depending on their design, intensity, and context of use, there is no certainty about the kind of effect they might have. Most of the analyzed studies, which showed the ability of robots to improve empathy levels in children, were not longitudinal, while the studies observing and arguing for the negative effect of robots on children’s empathy were either purely theoretical or dependent on the specific design of the robot and the situation. Therefore, there is a need for studies investigating the effects on children’s social and emotional development of long-term regular and consistent communication with robots of various designs and in different situations.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine the relationships between supplier development practices (SDPs) and supplier-buyer relationship practices from the supplier’s perspective (SBRSP), and seek to understand how specific SDPs may impact a buyer’s operational performance as well as supplier-buyer relationship practices. Design/methodology/approach The authors conducted a survey of 512 respondents from the different manufacturing firms in India and applied structural equation modelling to test a structural model that proposes the impacts of various efforts of SDPs on a buyer’s performance as well as SBRSP. Findings The study concludes that SDPs and SBRSP together improve the relationship between a buyer and supplier, and this improved relationship leads to competitive advantages (CAs) followed by profitability. Results indicate that supplier perspective of buyer-supplier relationship can be improved under the condition of SDPs and SBRSP together. SDPs are driven by productive measure and competitive pressure, whereas customer uncertainty is found to be statistically insignificant. Research limitations/implications The study was carried out in North Maharashtra Industrial Zone of India, where the auto sector and machine/components manufacturing firms have been established for a considerable period of time. Results of the study are limited to manufacturing organizations predominantly focussing on the automobile sector and machine/components manufacturing firms. Practical implications This study provides significant insights into the specific impact of various SDPs and SBRSP for both academics and practitioners. SDPs along with SBRSP practices lead to improvement in the relationship leading to CAs. SBRSP suggests that trust, long-term commitments and the supplier’s perspective are important practices for relationship improvement. Originality/value The current study attempts to identify what are the success factors for the supplier-buyer relationship from the supplier’s perspective and SDPs and how the supplier-buyer relationship can be improved under the condition of SDPs and SBRSP. Hence, the aim is to develop a more thorough understanding of the outcomes of a supplier-buyer relationship improvement from both buyer’s and supplier’s perspective, under the conditions of supplier development to achieve CAs leading to profitability. Furthermore, the study analyses the effect of the improved supplier-buyer relationship for achieving CAs leading to profitability.

The aim of this article is to examine the social and psychological impact of modern maritime disasters upon the population of a technologically developed nation. Through an innovative research approach using various indirect measurements of public interest including the internet, media response, music and film, the article explores the interest displayed by the American public following the loss of ships such as the Titanic, Andrea Doria, Edmund Fitzgerald, and Andrea Gail. In order to provide a basis for qualitative comparison, disasters involving other modes of transportation are also considered, including the Hindenburg crash, the ‘Great Train Wreck of 1918’ in Nashville, TN, the Tenerife air disaster of 1977, and the Concorde crash of 2000. The article seeks to explain why the American public seems to display more short-term and long-term interest in maritime disasters than in disasters involving other forms of transportation.

Institutions of higher education have a responsibility to prioritize the needs of society and local communities. One essential need prevalent in all communities is to address the rise of obesity and health risks due to lack of participation in physical activity. In the United States, children spend a small percentage of time engaged in physical activity, and engagement decreases further in adolescence and adulthood. Collaborative partnerships between kinesiology faculty at universities and community organizations are one avenue for engaging children in physical activity. Partnerships must be multilevel and community wide to evoke change and have long-term impact and sustainability. Within the context of community-based research, we propose a three-step framework for establishing collaborative partnerships: (1) determining the needs of partners; (2) discussing expertise, services, and philosophy; and (3) providing a quality product. In addition, we outline and illustrate our experiences when collaborating with community partners to promote physical activity.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to identify human capital factors that pertain both to setting up and successfully running a business. To achieve this objective, the authors apply and extend the theory of career choice offered by Lazear (2005) that explains individual selection into entrepreneurship.Design/methodology/approachThe authors hypothesise that individuals with broader educational and professional backgrounds are more likely to start a business and are more likely to run a business in the long term. The authors tested the hypotheses using unique data from 800 current entrepreneurs, 800 employees who were previously entrepreneurs and 842 employees with no entrepreneurial experience, by means of a logit regression with robust standard errors and extensive robustness checks.FindingsThe authors empirically show that individuals with more diverse educational and professional backgrounds tend to have both greater chances of starting a company, as well as a higher probability of entrepreneurial success. Surprisingly, having managerial experience proved to exert a negative influence on the likelihood of starting a business while having an insignificant impact on the odds of entrepreneurial success.Research limitations/implicationsThe findings are informative for those planning or pursuing an entrepreneurial career, but they are also relevant for the purpose of entrepreneurship education.Originality/valueThe author's extend the body of research supporting Lazear's (2005) theory by showing that broad education and professional experience not only contribute to a higher propensity to start a company but they are also success factors in business per se.

<em>Organizational learning has the potential to improve organizational performance. For any organization to sustain long term benefits it requires to establish a mechanism to tap the knowledge and use this knowledge in taking future decisions. This study tries to capture the role of Organizational Learning and Employee Motivation and its impact on the Employees’ Performance. The study is exploratory and descriptive in nature. The questionnaire used for primary data collection has its items collected and derived from various standardized questionnaires available. The analysis of the primary data shows that there is a positive correlation between Organizational Learning and Organizational Performance. On understanding Herzberg theory of motivation the study came to conclusion that employees consider hygiene factors of motivation more significant than the motivator factors. The motivation level of employees in an organization has positive impact on the overall performance of any organization. The study helps the organizations to understand the relationship between learning and performance considering motivation as a mediating variable. </em>

Objective and subjective aspects of Individual and Organizational performances (Valmohammadi & Roshanzamir, 2015) has been focus of research arena at number of instances to conclude about micro, meso and macro level phenomenas within organziations. This study aims to provide a unique outlook on 4 C’s of work environment (meso) and their interrelationship with Organizational Performance through i-e individual performance (micro). Career planning, Consultative management, Communication and Culture (performance oriented) are taken as 4 important C’s, constituting a comprehensive whole of Work environment. The study proposed two research hypotheses. Data was collected through 5 point Likert scale questionnaires, from 297 employees of 42 manufacturing and services sector firms in Pakistan. Bivariate Pearson’s Correlation, Preacher and Hayes Process v 3.0, Model 4, and Bootstrapping is used for data analysis. Results indicate that all four C’s of work environment have strong positive correlation with organziational perfomance through individual performance acting as a mediator.

Whetherorganization is about to launch a start-up or organization have been in organizationalbusiness for years, organizational business' direction is guided by your organizationalbusiness interest. In spite of this general awareness, such long-term organizational business,strategic-level interest of organizational business has been lacking in most organizations.
