Abstract The following article frames a particular case study: Jean-Luc Godard’s À bout de souffle (1960), referenced in the paper with its American title, Breathless. Foraging through the dense and sophisticated thicket of narrative, visual and textual features, the present study will attempt to untangle the overall intrinsic complexity of Godard’s film, as it exceeds simple commonalities between genre conventions or traditional stylistic approaches. The abrasive dialectical opposition that Breathless enacts against classical storytelling is indeed central to the specific cluster that can be examined under the labels of “experimental cinema”, “auteur cinema”, “art cinema”, predicated on Godard’s abundant departures from cinematic (mainstream) norms. The methodology adopted in the article will encompass both a cultural studies approach and the visual strategies of textual analysis from the perspective of film studies. This will spur a close examination of Godard’s directorial style, paying attention to a rich plethora of technical devices inscribed within salient sequences and offset against the matrix of creative options presented by the French Nouvelle Vague.

Abstract The Kaluza-Klein (KK) decomposition of higher-dimensional gravity gives rise to a tower of KK-gravitons in the effective four-dimensional (4D) theory. Such massive spin-2 fields are known to be connected with unitarity issues and easily lead to a breakdown of the effective theory well below the naive scale of the interaction. However, the breakdown of the effective 4D theory is expected to be controlled by the parameters of the 5D theory. Working in a simplified Randall-Sundrum model we study the matrix elements for matter annihilations into massive gravitons. We find that truncating the KK-tower leads to an early breakdown of perturbative unitarity. However, by considering the full tower we obtain a set of sum rules for the couplings between the different KK-fields that restore unitarity up to the scale of the 5D theory. We prove analytically that these are fulfilled in the model under consideration and present numerical tests of their convergence. This work complements earlier studies that focused on graviton self-interactions and yields additional sum rules that are required if matter fields are incorporated into warped extra-dimensions.

On July 14, 2019, a 3-minute 36-second video titled “Keanu Reeves Stops A ROBBERY!” was released on YouTube visual effects (VFX) channel, Corridor. The video’s click-bait title ensured it was quickly shared by users across platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and Reddit. Comments on the video suggest that the vast majority of viewers categorised it as fiction. What seemed less universally recognised, though, was that the performer in the clip was not Keanu Reeves himself. It was voice actor and stuntman Reuben Langdon, and his face was digitally replaced with that of Reeves, through the use of an AI generated deepfake, an open access application, Faceswap, and compositing in Adobe After Effects. This article uses Corridor’s deepfake Keanu video (hereafter shorted to CDFK) as a case study which allows the fleshing out of an, as yet, under-researched area of deepfakes: the role of framing contexts in shaping how viewers evaluate, categorise, make sense of and discuss these images. This research draws on visual effects scholarship, celebrity studies, cognitive film studies, social media theory, digital rhetoric, and discourse analysis. It is intended to serve as a starting point of a larger study that will eventually map types of online manipulated media creation on a continuum from the professional to the vernacular, across different platforms, and attending to their aesthetic, ethical, cultural and reception dimensions. The focus on context (platform, creator channel, and comments) also reveals the emergence of an industrial and aesthetic category of visual effects, which I call here “platform VFX,” a key term that provides us with more nuanced frames for illuminating and analysing a range of manipulated media practices as VFX software becomes ever more accessible and lends itself to more vernacular uses, such as we see with various face swap apps

Translated children’s works from English to Chinese have flooded China unprecedentedly since the end of the 19PthP century. However, there is a discrepancy in the translation of Chinese children’s works into the English language. This is maybe because western scholars are still largely ignoring Asian texts for young readers. Therefore, the research aims to fill the gap in the scholarship by studying the translated Bronze and Sunflower, which is a renowned work written by the Chinese first Hans Christian Anderson winner Cao Wenxuan, from the aspect of narrative space. A qualitative approach is adopted to compare the similarities and differences of narrative space between the source text and the target text. The samples will be taken from Cao Wenxuan’s Bronze and Sunflower and its English translation. The textual analysis is illuminated through the narratological framework, which is based on three-layered space: The topographic level, the chronotopic level and the textual level. The study explores how narrative space is constructed in the process of translating Bronze and Sunflower. It is hoped that the findings of the study will show how space is created in a different languagea, and that the translator prefers to change the narrative space rather than keeping the same spatial structure in the target text.

ABSTRACT Plio?-Pleistocene outcrops located at the southwestern edge of the Guadalquivir Basin in the area of Lepe (Huelva, Spain) provide an interesting example for studying the contemporaneity of traces with the rocks that contain them. Two different types of cells compatible with the ichnogenera Celliforma (Type 1) and Palmiraichnus (Type 2) were found in these outcrops. Their walls were constructed with the same material as the matrix and our first research in the area showed no extant bees producing them suggesting that they were coeval with the trace-bearing rocks. The case of the “Palmiraichnus-like” Type 2 cells was misleading because of its similarity with Palmiraichnus described from the region in the Canary Islands and Balearic Archipelago (Spain). Two determining features were vital in clarifying this first appearance. In the Palmiraichnus-like cells we found remains of a larval cocoon in one cell that could be dated by C14, giving a modern age. In the Celliforma-like cells more field research in the area allow us to observe extant bees nesting in these rocks in autumn. Ichnological literature show a few cases of asynchronies involving extant traces found mostly in Paleozoic and Mesozoic rocks. In contrast, the case presented herein indicates the time gap between the bearing rocks and the Lepe traces was shorter (ca. 12 ky–2.6 My), enhancing the similarity of traces and rocks and thus their potential coevalness. This case may serve as a warning about other potential examples in the fossil record in which relatively short asynchronies between traces and paleosols exist.

We study the divergent behavior of the Morse–Feshbach nonlinear perturbation series (MFNS) [P. M. Morse and H. Feshbach, Methods of Theoretical Physics, Part II (McGraw-Hill, New York, 1953)] for producing convergent energy levels using the ground state of a quartic anharmonic oscillator (AHO) in the strong coupling limit. Numerical calculations have been done up to tenth order. Further comparison of the MFNS convergent result has been made with the matrix diagonalization method.

Padang city has a coastline 80.24 km with a water area 72,000 ha, and 19 small islands. Overall, coastal in Padang City consists of beach sloping 41.52 km, cliff 22.08 km, muddy 8.19 km, and type of artificial beach in form of building coastal protection. The research aims at identifying suitability for ecotourism beach (category of recreation beach and mangrove). The methodology used ie with the matrix of suitability ecotourism beach using geospatial approach. Research results for suitability category recreation beach in 24 locations in beach Padang City 18 locations are in the category of very suitable with a value 82.28 % and only beach in Bung Hatta University are in category conditional with a value 27 %. Suitability category ecotourism mangrove in 19 locations in beach Padang City 6 location is in a category is in accordance with a value 92.11 % and 4 location is in a category conditional/not suitable to value 50.88 %.

Regarding the importance of rivers, appropriate management of aggregate mining is of great significance. Mining of river materials has a direct impact on environmental conditions of the river. Today, aggregate mining management represents a crucial topic in river engineering. Often selected based on the pattern of the considered river, matrix method provides a suitable approach to improve the river aggregate mining management. The present research aims at presenting the application of the matrix method in river material mining location evaluation. Given the capabilities of the matrix method for determining potential of mine area and aggregate mining method, this method can be seen as a suitable solution for reducing negative environmental impacts of river material mining. A'la River is one of the most important rivers streaming in Khouzestan Province (Iran), with its sediment load and mining potential being of critical importance. In this research, the reach of A'la River at the intersection of Rood-Zard River and Rahmhormoz diversion dam was studied for aggregate mining and application of matrix method. The main purpose of this work is to study the application of matrix method to A'la River. The results indicate braided pattern of the river and appropriateness of the matrix method. Available volume of aggregate for mining within the mentioned reach of A'la River was estimated as 50,000 m3, and scraping method at a maximum depth of 1 m was proposed for mining of the aggregates.

This paper proposes an efficient origin-estimation bandwidth (OD band) model, which provides dedicated progression bands for arterial traffic based on the real-time dynamic matrix of their estimated OD pairs. The innovations of the OD band model are as follows: First, the dynamics of through and turning-in/out traffics are analyzed based on the matrix of their estimated OD pairs, and used to generate the traffic movement sequence at continuous intersections; Second, the end-time of green interval for lag-lag phase sequence at continuous intersections is determined according to the relevant constraints, the relationship between the start/end-time of green interval and the minimum/maximum green intervals; Third, the bandwidths of the two directions of the artery ware produced, after being weighted by their traffic demands. The intuitiveness, convenience, and feasibility of the OD band model were fully demonstrated through a case study. Overall, the OD band model helps to produce bi-directional progression bands for traffic with many turning movements on the artery, and enables the through and turning-in/out traffics to proceed through continuous intersections, when the signals at those intersections are green.

O objetivo do presente trabalho é investigar e analisar os discursos estabelecidos de futuros professores de um curso de licenciatura em Letras - Português e Inglês, de uma universidade comunitária, componente do COMUNG-RS, localizada no Rio Grande do Sul, buscando entender como ocorre a formação dos futuros docentes em língua inglesa e os processos de ensino-aprendizagem que a envolvem, com ênfase para a articulação pedagógica com as tecnologias de informação e comunicação (TIC) de modo integrado. É um estudo de caso, enquanto método de cunho qualitativo, empregando a análise textual discursiva como método de análise de dados. Dessa forma, como resultado, os discursos revelam que a formação dos futuros professores envolvidos engloba a discussão acerca das TIC, mas não de forma satisfatória, revelando em suas práticas, que os futuros profissionais tendem a uma perspectiva técnica de ensino sobre as TIC. O meio pelo qual tal viés possa ser abandonado, é que a formação de professores considere um ensino transversal a partir das TIC, não apenas em disciplinas isoladas e ainda que seja realizado por meio de todos os profissionais envolvidos.Palavras-chave: Formação de professores. Análise textual discursiva (ATD).INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGIES: case study with future language teachers Abstract The aim of this paper is to investigate and analyze the established discourses of future teachers of a degree course in Letters - Portuguese and English, from a community university, component of COMUNG-RS, located in Rio Grande do Sul, seeking to understand how occours the formation of future teachers in English language and the teaching-learning processes that involve it, with emphasis on the pedagogical articulation with information and communication technologies (ICT) in an integrated way. It is a case study, as a qualitative method, using discursive textual analysis as a data analysis method. Thus, as a result, the speeches reveal that the formation of the future teachers involved encompasses the discussion about ICT, but not satisfactorily, revealing in their practices that future professionals tend to a technical perspective of teaching about ICT. The means by which such bias can be abandoned is for teacher education to consider cross-sectional education based on ICT, not only in isolated subjects and even though it is carried out by all the professionals involved.Keywords: Teacher training. Es un estudio de caso, como método cualitativo, que utiliza el análisis textual discursivo como método de análisis de datos. Por lo tanto, como resultado, los discursos revelan que la formación de los futuros maestros involucrados abarca la discusión sobre las TIC, pero no de manera satisfactoria, revelando en sus prácticas que los futuros profesionales tienden a una perspectiva técnica de la enseñanza sobre las TIC. El medio por el cual se puede abandonar este sesgo es que la formación del profesorado considere la educación transversal basada en las TIC, no solo en asignaturas aisladas y aunque sea realizada por todos los profesionales involucrados.Palabras clave: Formación de profesores.
