Devotion in the form of training of composting with existing materials around the farmers using 3 starter thatis EM4, MOL and Nitrobacter TJ has been done in Subak Tibubiyu, Kerambitan Tabanan. After subsequentcomposting is testing the quality of the three types of compost produced. The topic of composting andcompost quality testing is selected based on the farmers' demand because it is pointed out by the organicfertilizer farmers that the packaging is obtained in the form of aid, the quality is not good. Is a problem alsoin terms of transport to the planting area? Therefore, it is necessary to make compost near the farmer'scultivation area. In improving the quality of compost has been tried to make compost with 3 types of starterand then done the quality of compost testing. Farmers welcomed this activity and were interested to find outwhich type of starter was best composted. After fermentation for 6 weeks the compost has matured, then thequality of the compost is tested. The results of compost testing in the laboratory show that the best compostquality is compost with EM4 starter. With the success of farmers to make their own good quality compostfertilizer, the acceleration of organic fertilizer will be done. The use of compost fertilizer can reduce the useof chemical fertilizers and maintain the sustainability of the soil.

Fertilization for agriculture and plantation nutrition still dominated by chemical fertilizers. Organic fertilizers utilization for soils is believed has not had the same quality as existing fertilizer standards. On the other hand, increasing waste problems has become environmental issues that have not been properly resolved. MSW process by using MBT Method is able to change the waste management system and produce RDF Fluff products as alternative fuels and compost fertilizers. Research have showed that the quality of organic fertilizer from the Mechanical Biological Treatment (MBT) process met the SNI 19-7030-2004 parameters with the total N = 1.38%, P2O5 = 0.66% and K2O = 2.34%. Production cost of making organic fertilizer is lower than NPK and the amount used for ground application is higher than NPK. Market confidence began gradually improving due to consumer increasing demand.

To achieve food-self sufficiency in Indonesia, it is necessary to apply sustainable agriculture practices to improve soil quality. Most of paddy fields have been applied with chemical fertilizers intensively for more than 40 years without the addition of organic matter.  The purpose of this study was to understand the effects of lignite-based organic fertilizer application on the quality of paddy soil and yield of rice. The study was conducted in April until August 2014 in the irrigated rice fields in Belitang, Ogan Komering Ulu Timur District. The study was arranged in a Factorial Randomized Block Design, with 9 treatment combinations and 3 replicates. The first factor was the types of fertilizers, consisting of recommended chemical fertilizers (250 kg urea ha-1 + 150 kg SP36 ha-1 + 50 kg KCl ha-1), organic fertilizer from plant residue at 5 Mg ha-1,  and lignite-based organic fertilizer (namely Baranik fertilizer) at 0.75 Mg ha-1.  The second factor was rice varieties, consisting of Mentik Wangi, Gogo Aromatik and Ciliwung. The application of Baranik fertilizer at 0.75 Mg ha-1 has improved the quality of paddy soil with the increase of organic-C content from 1.44% to 2.90%. Application of Baranik fertilizer at 0.75 Mg ha-1 has increased the vegetative components and the yield of rice about 7.17 Mg ha-1 compared to the organic fertilizer from plant residue, but the yield is still the same as that in the recomended dosages of chemical fertilizers.  Among the rice varieties, the yield of Ciliwung variety was higher than other varieties, i.e. 7.62 Mg ha-1.  The yield of Gogo Aromatik variety is significantly lower than that of Ciliwung variety.  Baranik organic fertilizer can be used to improve soil fertility for food security purpose.

Background Corn silage is an important feed for intense ruminant production, but the growth of corn relies heavily on the use of chemical fertilizers. Sustainable crop production requires careful management of all nutrient sources available on a farm, particularly in corn-based cropping systems. Methods Experiments were conducted to determine the appropriate technique of corn-legume intercropping in conjunction with the supplemental use of chemical fertilizers, organic manure, and biofertilizers (BFs). Acetylene reduction assays (ARAs) were also performed on corn and soybean roots. Results Combining chemical fertilizers with chicken manure (CM) in a 50:50 ratio and applying 50% NPK+50% CM+BF produced fresh forage and dry matter (DM) yields that were similar to those produced in the 100% nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), potassium (K) treatment. Among the lone fertilizer treatments, the inorganic fertilizer (100% NPK) treatment produced the highest DM yield (13.86 t/ha) of forage and outyielded the 100% CM (9.74 t/ha) treatment. However, when CM was combined with NPK, the resulting DM yield of forage (13.86 t/ha) was the same as that resulting from 100% NPK (13.68 t/ha). Compared with CM applications alone, combinations of NPK and CM applications resulted in increased plant height, crop growth rates (CGRs) and leaf area index (LAI), but the values of these parameters were similar to those resulting from 100% NPK application. Fertilizers in which the ratio was 50% CM+50% NPK or 50% CM+50% NPK+BF resulted in protein yields that were similar to those resulting from conventional fertilizers. Similarly, the CP content did not significantly differ between applications of the 100% NPK and 50% CM+50% NPK fertilizers. The use of BFs had no significant impact on improving either the yield or quality of forage fertilized with inorganic or organic fertilizer. Lactic acid responded differently to different fertilizer applications and was significantly higher in the fertilized plots than in the unfertilized plots. Compared with treatments of lone chemical and lone organic manure fertilizers, treatments involving applications of BF and a combination of BF and NPK or CM resulted in higher ARA values. Discussion There is no simple and easy approach to increase biological nitrogen fixation (BNF) in grain legumes grown as part of a cropping system under realistic farm field conditions. Overall, evidence recorded from this study proves that, compared with corn monocrops combined with CM and chemical fertilizers, corn-soybean intercrops could increase forage yields and quality, produce higher total protein yields, and reduce the need for protein supplements and chemical fertilizers.

Natural nitrogen isotope abundance (δ15N) has been suggested as a potential indicator for discriminating organic vegetables from their conventional counterparts. However, little is known about the δ15N characteristic of cauliflower (Brassica oleracea L. var. botrytis) under organic production and how the application of chemical fertilizers could affect this characteristic. In this study, δ15N characteristics of cauliflower (including the intra-plant δ15N characteristic) and soil under different fertilization treatments were investigated under field conditions. Five treatments were laid out: control, chemical fertilizers (F4M0), organic fertilizer (F0M4), and chemical fertilizer in combination with organic fertilizer at the ratio of 3:1 (F3M1) and 1:3 (F1M3). Results showed that plant δ15N was positively correlated with fertilizer δ15N and plant root/flower was more sensitive to changes of fertilizer δ15N and soil δ15N than leaf/stem. Distribution of δ15N in different plant parts (especially in flower and leaf) was significantly changed when organic fertilizers were partially or totally substituted by chemical fertilizers, suggesting a comparison of flower δ15N and leaf δ15N might be applicable for the organic identification of marketed cauliflowers. Our results provide fundamental data for the soil- and fertilizer-specific crop δ15N database and indicate that the intra-plant δ15N characteristic could be helpful for organic cauliflower identification.

AbstractThe Klampok River flows through the Bergas Subdistrict and there are a number of industries around it, causing the river to become polluted because it becomes the body of the recipient of wastewater. As a result of the decline in the quality of the water in the Klampok River, it will impact on the quality of groundwater used by residents around the river. This study aims to determine the quality of groundwater around the Klampok River as a result of the influence of pollution load by industrial wastewater based on Permenkes No. 416 / MENKES / PER / IX / 1990 concerning requirements for clean water quality. The location of river water sampling is divided into 3 stations (LK1, LK2, and LK3) while for groundwater samples from residential houses is carried out at 6 points, namely 3 points in the northern area of Klampok River (U1, U2, U3) and 3 points in the area south of the Klampok River (S1, S2, S3). Sampling is done in the dry season. From the results of the test of river water quality, pollution that occurs in Klampok river water is categorized as mild-moderate polluted. While the results of groundwater quality testing are still below the quality standards required by Permenkes No. 416 / MENKES / PER / IX / 1990 so that the decline in the water quality of the Klampok river does not affect the quality of groundwater around the river.

There are many of rice field which is located near the industrial area. The industrial waste contains heavy metals (chromium) which will cause contamination of rice if the waste isn’t treated properly. The used of chemical fertilizers can cause chromium contamination. It needs an effort to do remediation, such as using phytostabilization mechanism. This research aimed to determine the role of chelator in chromium phytostabilization and its influence on the growth and quality of rice. The study was conducted in Waru village, Karanganyar in May to October 2018.  This research was factorial design used completely randomized block design with two factors, namely chemical fertilizers and chelator (<em>Agrobacterium </em>sp. I26, and manure). The parameters observed are chromium content and uptake by plant tissues (roots, shoot and rice), plant height and a number of clumps. Research output was without chemical fertilizer-chelator <em>Agrobacterium </em>sp. I26 that can increase the chromium uptake in roots as big as 95.38 %, increased up to 10 %  in the shoot and decreased up to 92.38 % in rice compared to control. Application of <em>Agrobacterium</em> sp. I26 can be recommended to produce good quality and quantity of rice (good growth and free from harmful pollutants such as chromium metal).
