Humans have utilized landscape for produces a diverse character of the wider area of the watershed. Agroforestry is a land management system in addressing the problems that arise due to changes in land use of soil and water conservation. The aim of the study was to analyze plant diversity in agroforestry practices that have services in the Krueng watershed landscape in Aceh watershed. Develop strategies in the Krueng Aceh DAS agroforestry service. This research was conducted in the upper, middle and downstream of the Krueng Aceh watershed, with a rapid method of Agro-Biodiversity Appraisal and SWOT. The results showed that the composition of the vegetation structure found in the study sites tended to vary with the diversity index of agroforestry that was currently in the upstream and middle of the Krueng Aceh watershed. Based on SWOT analysis, internal scores are 2.45 and external scores are 3.21. Agroforestry practices in the upper stream of Krueng Aceh watershed were dominated by Aleurites moluccana, Areca cathecu, and Averrhoa bilimbi L species with the highest INP in the upper stream of Krueng Aceh watershed. Vegetation at the middle stream of Krueng Aceh watershed dominated by Areca cathecu, Lansium domesticum and Musa paradisiaca.

Candlenut [Aleurites moluccana (L.) Willd.] is a perrenial plant that has high economic value. Information about vegetative and generative characters, as well as yield components that influence the yield is needed in the early stages of selection process in plant breeding. Selection of these characters can be done using Sequential Path Analysis (SPA) according to the plant development cycle, and then confirm the model using the Structural equation modeling (SEM) method. The aim of this study was to determine the vegetative characters and yield components that influence the candlenut production. The research was carried out at Pakuwon Experimental Station, Indonesian Industrial and Beverage Crops Research Institute, Sukabumi, from January to December 2018. Plant materials used in this study was 129 candlenut trees at 9 years old which were planted with a spacing of 10m x 10m. The data were analyzed using SPA followed by model confirmation using SEM method. The results showed that the production of seed was directly and positively influenced by the leaf petiole length, number of productive branches, seed weight, and number of fruits per tree, while the effect of stem height character is indirectly. Based on these results, plant selection based on vegetative characters such as leaf petiole length, number of productive branches, stem height character, number of fruits per tree and seed weight can be used to obtain high-yielding candlenut plants.

In addition to nutritional and non-nutritional content, candlenut also contains toxalbumin, toxic compound that can inhibit protein synthesis. This study aims to inhibit toxalbumin activity in candlenut through moist heating treatment, using hemagglutination method. Defatted candlenut powder was being treated under moist heating using autoclave at the temperature of 121oC for 5,10, 15 and 20 minutes followed by oven heating at the temperature of 70oC for 7 hours and control, continued by dry heating using oven at the temperature of 70oC for 7 hours and extraction using 0.15 M NaCl at room temperature then precipitated using ammonium suplhate (60%) at room temperature for 4 hours. Supernatant was dialyzed with water and 0.15 M NaCl for 1 night each then being freeze dried. 1 g of obtained protein fraction was purified in Sephadex G-75 (10 cm x 1.0 cm) column. Resulted extract was re-dried using freeze dryer for hemagglutination test towards A, B, AB and O blood types. The result shows that toxalbumin acitivities were inhibited by moist heating in autoclave at the temperature of 121oC for 10 minutes followed by drying in oven 70oC for 7 hours.

This research aims to identify the substitution of almond flour with candlenut flour on the characteristics of macaron shell, and to identify the right concentration of almond flour with candlenut flour on the characteristics of macaron shell. This research used randomized block design with the treatment ratio of almond flour with candlenut flour, which consists of 6 levels such as: 100% : 0%, 80% : 20%, 60% : 40%, 40% : 60%, 20% : 80%, and 0% : 100%. Each treatment was repeated 3 times, resulting in 18 experimental units. The data were then analyzed using Analysis of Variance and if the treatment had an effect on the parameter, the Duncan test was performed. The result showed that substitution of almond flour with candlenut flour had a significant effect on water content, ash content, protein content, fat content, carbohydrate content, swelling, flavor (hedonic), texture (hedonic), taste (scoring) and overall acceptance (hedonic). Substitution of almond flour with candlenut flour 40% had the best characteristics, with 2,40% water content, 2,51% ash content, 9,40% protein content, 18,98% fat content, 66,70% carbohydrate content, 130,81% swelling, color, flavor, taste, and overall acceptance liked, taste candlenut medium and texture very soft.

AbstractA 16-year-old male was admitted to the paediatric ICU with acute onset of vomiting, somnolence, and chest pain, and electrocardiogram showing 2nd degree heart block after ingesting an Aleurites moluccana (Candlenut) seed as a herbal weight loss supplement. Electrocardiogram showed progressively worsening heart block with down-sloping of the ST segments, resembling digoxin toxicity. After 2 days of ICU observation, his symptoms began to improve and eventually resolved. The side effects of herbal supplements are often unknown but by analysing cases such as these, physicians can develop a better understanding of these substances to help guide management.
