Subject. The article analyzes the economic activity of a large enterprise and forecasts basic technical and economic indicators. Objectives. Our aim is to develop analytical tools for business analysis, based on official reporting data, intended to increase the reliability of knowledge about the business situation at the enterprise. Methods. The study employs methods of analysis of technical and economic indicators, intelligent multidimensional data analysis, forecasting methods, time series models, and multivariate dynamic regression models. Results. We developed tools to evaluate management decisions on the basis of the volatility of income and expenditure indicators, which enable to assess the effectiveness of technical and economic solutions. We also developed a hybrid approach to forecasting the main technical and economic indicators based on models combining the multivariate dynamic regression models, multivariate autoregressive models, and adaptive forecasting models. The presented analytical tools for business analysis were tested on the materials of three large industrial enterprises of the chemical complex. Conclusions. The offered instrumental methods can be integrated into the analysis of enterprise by minority shareholders or potential investors, who do not have access to management statements. We also recommend them as analytical tools in the field of business consulting and business analysis for various purposes, including investment ones, to increase the reliability of knowledge about the condition of business, according to official reports of the enterprise.

For 300 MWt gas-and-oil-burning power units which durability exceeds the estimated one, when comparing and ranking, it is necessary to take into account not only efficiency indicators (for example, the specific consumption of conventional fuel), but also indicators of reliability and safety. In practice, this is exactly what is being done. However, it is being done just by intuition. An intuitive approach solves this problem, but not always certainly. It would seem that there is a quite fully developed mathematical apparatus for regression and correlation analysis, a set of algorithms and calculation programs. But there is one specific feature that, if it is not taken into account, further increases the risk of an erroneous decision. The fact is that the average monthly data on the technical and economic indicators of power units do not belong to the samples from the general population that correspond to the normal distribution law, the latter being a necessary condition for using such methods. This is a non-random sample from a finite set of multidimensional data. Naturally, the methods of classification of multidimensional data are not simple; they require the development of special calculation programs that recommend solutions for maintenance and repair, load distribution, etc. The article presents only one, but very important issue of the problem, viz. the assessment of the reliability of the assumption about the linear relationship of technical and economic indicators. Its solution will simultaneously demonstrate difficulties in comparing the efficiency of aging power units. It is noted that the known and practically used method for assessing the reliability of the linear regression equation, based on the construction of a “confidence corridor” or “uncertainty band”, does not allow one to answer the main question, viz. whether the relationship of the considered technical and economic indicators corresponds to a linear one. A new method for evaluating this relationship is proposed, based on constructing a fiducial domain of possible regression line implementations. It is shown that for small values of the number of sample implementations, a significant part of independent samples has a correlation coefficient exceeding 0.9.

Variants of the intensification of the solvent dewaxing process, which increase the yield of base oils, are described. One of the promising ways to improve the technical and economic indicators of the dewaxing process is the use of modifying additives. The work shows that the introduction of a polymer additive requires a decrease in the filtration rate and, accordingly, an increase in the performance of the dewaxing unit. This results in a petrolatum with a reduced oil content, which is a qualifying factor for the production of high-melting ceresins, protective-wax components, and lubricants for various purposes.

The choice of the proper type and size of milking installations needs to take into account the maximum planned number of dairy cows, the size of a technological group, the number of milkings per day, and the duration of one milking and the operator's working shift. The analysis of technical and economic indicators of currently most common types of milking machines of the same technical level revealed that the Carousel installation had the best specific indicators while the Herringbone installation featured higher labour inputs and cash costs. The Parallel installation was found somewhere in between. In terms of the throughput and the required number of operators Herringbone is recommended for farms with up to 600 dairy cows, Parallel — below 1200 dairy cows, Carousel — above 1200 dairy cows. Carousel was found the most practical, high-performance, easily automated and, therefore, promising milking system for milking parlours, especially on the large-scale dairy farms.
