Two experiments were conducted in the Savelugu-Nanton Municipality of the Northern Region of Ghana in 2012 and 2013 to assess the effect of N fertilizer on growth, N remobilization and grain yield of three local varieties of soybean (Glycine max [L] Merill). The experiments were a 3 x 4 factorial laid in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with four replications. Factor A was soybean varieties (Jenguma, Quarshie, Ahotor); Factor B was 0, 15, 30 and 45 kg N ha-1. The experimental fields were planted manually on the flat by drilling and later thinned to 2 plants hill-1 at 0.50 m × 0.10 m with a population of about 400 000 plants ha-1. Growth and yield parameters measured were plant height, nodule number plant-1, nodule dry weight plant-1, percent nodule effectiveness, number of pods plant-1, number of seeds pod-1, 100 seed weight, harvest index and grain yield. The results showed that the control recorded lower figures in all growth parameters. Nitrogen remobilization was also observed in all plots, which indicate that soybean needs greater levels of N during grain filling. Again, N remobilization and soybean yield were highest in the 45 kg N ha-1 treatment compared to the other treatments. However, considering the overall yields, farmers in the study area should be advised to adopt starter N fertilization of soybean for higher yields as the soils are highly degraded in soil fertility.

This research aims to know the effect as well as the optimum rates of manure of urine cow bio to the growth and yield of the soybean plant. The design used in this study was Randomized Block Design and the treatment used is U0 (without bio urine manure), U1 (1375 litres of bio urine manure ha-1 or 550 ml plots-1), U2 (bio urine manure of 2750 litre ha-1 or 1100ml plots -1), U3 (bio urine manure 4125 litre ha-1 or 1650 ml plot-1), and U4 (bio urine manure of 5500 litre ha-1 or 2200 ml plot-1). Variable observation in this study is the height of the plant 33.8 cm, leaf number 2.90 strands, leaf area 1.17cm2, the weight of fresh residues tan-114,74 gr, dry oven weight of residue tan-1 15.50 gr, dry oven weight of residue  ha-1 15.50kg, the number of pods 9.44 soybean, weight of 100 grain of soybean 1 0.91 gr, the weight of the seed tan-110.30 gr, seed dry weight ha-110, 30 kg, harvest index of 4.88 and optimum dosage of the manure of urine cow bio is 5500 litres ha-1 can increase the growth and yield of soybeans.

The productivity of soybean in Assosa Zone particularly in Assosa and Bambassi districts is very low due to poor soil fertility management practices that resulted in severe soil acidity and low N-fixing inoculants in the soil. Hence, this experiment was conducted during the main cropping season of 2019 and 2020 in Assosa and Bambassi districts to evaluate the effect of biofertilizers, organic fertilizers, inorganic NPSB fertilizers, and lime on nodulation, growth, and yield of soybean (Glycine max L. Merrill). Factorial combinations of two biofertilizer inoculants (without biofertilizer (B1) and SB12 plus MAR1495 biofertilizers at their recommended rates of 500 g·ha−1 (B2); two organic fertilizers: without fresh cattle manure (M1) and fresh cattle manure at 10 t·ha−1 (M2); two lime rates: without lime (L1) and lime at 5 t·ha−1 (L2); two inorganic NPSB fertilizers: NPSB at 9.5-23-3.5-0.05 (F1) and NPSB at 19-46-7-0.1 (F2) at their recommended rates for soybean) were laid out in a randomized complete block design with three replications. Effective nodules, leaf area index, and grain yield were collected and analyzed using SAS 9.1.3 software. Results of the experiment showed that effective nodules, leaf area index, grain yield, bulk density, pH, total nitrogen, available phosphorus, organic carbon, and cation exchange capacity were highly ( P < 0.01 ) affected by the interaction of bio-, organic, and inorganic fertilizers and lime at both locations and years. Across all treatments, the grain yield of soybean was increased in the second year, while it was lowest in the first year at both locations. Finally, the interaction of SB12 + MAR1495, 10 t·ha−1 fresh cattle manure, without lime, and NPSB at 19-46-7-0.1 increased the grain yield of soybean in both Assosa and Bambassi districts and should be adopted appropriately to enhance the productivity of soybean in the areas and similar agroecologies, while the interaction effect of SB12 + MAR1495, 10 t ha−1 FCM, 5 t·ha−1 lime, and NPSB at 19-46-7-0.1 improved soil physicochemical properties in both the districts and similar agroecologies.

The experiment was laid out in a randomized block design (RBD) with six treatments and replicated thrice Growth and yield significantly increased by the application of different nutrient sources. Application of Poultry manure @ 6 t ha-1 + Rhizobium @ 20g kg-1 seed + Phosphatica @ 20g kg-1 seed (T6) enhanced both the growth and yield of crop. Maximum number of pods plant-1 (67.73), seeds pod-1 (2.83), grain yield (1513 kg ha-1) and Harvest index(45.62 %) were observed with Poultry manure @ 6 t ha-1 + Rhizobium @ 20g kg-1 seed + Phosphatica @ 20g kg-1 seed (T6).

An experiment was carried out to study the effect of time of tiller separation on grain growth and yield of transplant aman rice. The experiment consisted of 3 times of tiller separation viz. tiller separation at 25 (T1), 35 (T2) and 45 (T3) days after transplanting (DAT); and 5 levels of number of tillers kept hill-1 viz. intact hills (K0), 1 tiller kept hill-1 (K1), 2 tillers kept hill-1 (K2), 3 tillers kept hill-1 (K3) and 4 tillers kept hill-1 (K4). The experiment was conducted in randomized complete block design with three replications. The unit plot size was 4 m 2.5 m. With a few exceptions, the highest grain growth parameters like number of panicles hill-1, dry weight panicle-1, number of grains panicle-1, dry weight grain-1 and grain growth rate were observed when tillers were separated at 25 DAT but the lowest values were found at 45 DAT. The grain growth rate decreased with the advance of time. The highest grain yield (5.25 t ha-1) was obtained from tillers separated at 25 days after transplanting (DAT) but the lowest values (4.13 t ha-1) were recorded when tillers were separated at 45 DAT. The maximum grain yield (5.88 t ha-1) was found in intact hills, while the lowest values (2.64 t ha-1) were obtained when 1 tiller kept hill-1. Compost is an important source of organic fertilizer that can be used to amend degraded soil to improve soil nutrient and crops yield. This experiment was to evaluate the effect of sawdust – piggery compost on soil properties, growth and yield of maize and it was carried out at the Ambrose Alli University Teaching and Research Farm, Emaudo, Ekpoma, Edo State. The experiment was fitted in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with seven treatments and three replicates. The treatments were; control (0), 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 tonnes of sawdust – piggery compost per hectares (ha-1). Data collected were analysed using ANOVA and LSD was used to separate means. Soil nutrients were below critical levels and the application of compost improved fertility status of the soil. Growth parameters, dry matter yield, cob weight, grain yield and nutrient uptake were determined. It was observed that application of Sawdust – piggery compost significantly (p 0.05) increased the growth of maize compared to control. The application of 8 to 12 tonnes of sawdust – piggery compost significantly (p 0.05) increased the plant height, leaf area and stem girth of maize compared to other treatments. The application of 8 to 12 tonnes per hectares (ha-1) of sawdust – piggery compost significantly (p 0.05) increased the cob weight, grain and dry matter yield of maize compared to other treatments, however, the application of 10 t ha-1 of compost to maize increased grain yield of maize than others rate of applications with the yield value of 4.60 t ha-1. The uptake of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium were higher with application of 12 tonnes of compost. In conclusion, the application rates of 10 t ha-1 of sawdust – piggery compost per hectare on nutrient depleted soils will improve the growth and yield of maize.

The effect of lime and fertilizer application, as the management of soil acidity, on the growth and yield of rice cv. BRRI dhan50 was investigated during Aman rice season at the Agronomy Field Laboratory of Sylhet Agricultural University, Bangladesh. The experiment was consisted of two factors namely lime and fertilizer. There were four levels of lime (0, 0.50, 1.00, and 1.50 t ha–1 of CaCO3.MgCO3) and three levels of fertilizers (control, FYM @ 10 t ha–1, and chemical fertilizer @ 100-30-42-4-3-0.4 kg ha–1 of N-P-K-Ca-S-Zn). The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design with three replications where the unit plot size was 4.0 m x 2.5 m. Growth parameters, yield components and yield of BRRIdhan 50 rice increased with increasing lime rate in association of fertilizer in acidic soil. The highest grain yield (2.90 t ha–1) was recorded from the application of 1.50 t ha–1 lime and the lowest (2.06 t ha–1) was from control (0t ha–1), irrespective of fertilizer. On the other hand, the best effect of fertilizers on grain yield (3.08 t ha–1) was found with the application of FYM @ 10 t ha–1 and the lowest yield (1.59 t ha–1) was in control. The treatment combination of lime 1.50 t ha–1 and FYM (@ 10 t ha–1 produced the highest grain yield (3.60 t ha–1), which was followed by treatment combination of lime 1.50 t ha–1 and chemical fertilizer @ 100-30-42-4-3-0.4 kg ha–1 of N-P-K-Ca-S-Zn (3.28 t ha–1). Additionally, application of lime and FYM improved the soil fertility and properties of acidic soil for crop production by increasing the pH, organic matter and availability of some essential nutrients. Waterlogging is one the major abiotic stresses that affects growth and yield of blackgram. A field experiment was carried out at the experimental field of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University, Gazipur, 1706 during kharif II season to evaluate 26 blackgram genotypes for understanding the flood tolerance in respect of yield and yield contributing characters. The experiment was laid out with a randomized complete block design with three replications. Water logging depth was 3-5 cm, created by irrigation from tap water and imposed at 29 days after emergence of seedlings which was maintained for 8 days. Multivariate analysis was performed involving eight qualitative plant characters. A wide range of variation was found for all the qualitative plant characters like plant height, plant dry weight, branches per plant, pods per plant, pod length, seeds per pod, 1000-seed weight and yield per plant. Flooding reduced all the growth parameters of blackgram but degree of reduction varied greatly over the blackgram genotypes. Considering yield performance, the genotypes BU Acc 25 showed the highest yield per plant (9.03 g) followed by the BU Acc 17 (6.47 g) and BU Acc 24 (6.17) under flooding . The yield reduction percent of the same genotypes were minimum (43.86, 60.82 and 65.96, respectively) compared to control which is very important for selection of those genotypes as a flooding tolerant. A pot experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of zinc and vermicompost on the growth, yield and nutrient content of soybean (Glycine max L.) plant. The treatment variables were control (‒Zn and ‒VC), VC 5 ton/ha, Zn 1 kg/ha, Zn 2 kg/ha, Zn 3 kg/ha, Zn 1 kg/ha + VC 5 ton/ha, Zn 2 kg/ha + VC 5 ton/ha and Zn 3 kg/ha + VC 5 ton/ha. Application of zinc and vermicompost showed a significant effect on the growth parameters and macro- and micronutrients uptake by the plant. The highest average plant height (164 cm), leaf number (80 nos./plant), leaf area (3360 cm2/plant), fresh weight (49.03 gm/plant), dry weight (24.54 gm/plant), fruit length (9.4 cm), fruit number per plant (5 nos. /plant) were recorded for Zn 1 kg/ha + VC 5 ton/ha treatment while the lowest values were observed in control at harvest. Results of the growth parameters varied significantly (p ≤ 0.05) with time. It was observed that, the overall best growth performance was achieved in Zn 1 kg/ha + VC 5 ton/ha. Dhaka Univ. J. Biol. A field experiment was conducted for two consecutive seasons (2009/2010 and 2010/2011) on the Demonstration Farm of the College of Agricultural Studies, Sudan University of Science and Technology at Shambat, to study the effect of some fertilizers on growth and yield of soybean (Glycine max L. merril). The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with four replicates. The fertilizers treatments consisted of three types of fertilizers: urea (180 kg/ha), NPK (361 kg/ha), compost (%) and the control. The results showed that fertilizers treatments in first season had significant difference on number of pods/plant, economic yield, harvest index. Mean while, highly significant difference on green, biological and straw yield. In second season fertilizers treatments had significant difference on plant height at 30 days, leaf area at 45 and 60 days, green yield, biological yield and straw yield.

In the mountains of Northern Vietnam, frequent and intense acid rain affects the crops. This paper assesses the impacts of simulated acid rain (SAR) on the growth and the yield of soybeans (Glycine max (L.) Merr.) in Hoa Binh province. A field study in the summer–autumn seasons in 2017 (from May to August) in an area of 189 square meters was arranged according to a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three repetitions including six treatments and a control. The experimental area was protected from ambient rain. Soybean plants were exposed three times a week to SAR at pH 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5, 5.0, 5.5, and 6.0 (control). The results show that the growth parameters such as germination rate, stem length, and the number of main branches of the plants dramatically decreased in a dose–effect experiment. Gradual declines in the chlorophyll content (indirectly determined by SPAD) and the leaf area index (LAI) were observed as the acidity increased. The actual yield and yield components also tended to decrease when the pH of the rainwater fell, especially in the experimental plots treated at pH 3.0. The growth and yield of soybean were adversely affected when the plants were exposed to simulated acid rain, especially from a pH value of 3.5 and lower. This is the first study to evaluate the effects of acid rain on the growth and the yield of soybean grown in the mountains of Northern Vietnam.
