Beginner-level writing is one of the dimensions in language development of early grade students in elementary school that need to be focused on. Writing is the final stage of literacy learning. Theoretically, before learning to write, children must go through some stages, such as listening, speaking and reading. In developing the competency of beginner-level writing for students of early grade in elementary school, a fun method must be used so that children can participate in activities well and without feeling depressed. One of the methods is known as edutainment. Edutainment is a combination of educational content that is presented with entertainment which aims at stimulating children to learn beginner-level writing through fun and interesting activities. Learning beginner-level writing with edutainment methods can be done with a variety of games, role playing activities or involvement of attractive learning media. With the edutainment method, children will not feel bored in learning beginner-level writing.

This preliminary study aims to collect information about elementary school students’ learning styles and preferences that are useful for developing reading literacy books to strengthenthe socio-cultural values in elementary schools in order to be effective for the School Literacy Movement. This is as based on the fact that there are cases of elementary school students committing violence against their own friends. The development model of reading literacy for elementary school students was Plomp’s model with the steps of preliminary research, prototyping, and assessment. The research findings in the preliminary analysis show that students tend to have less motivation to read due to reading materials which are not interesting enough. The needs analysis results show that elementary school students really like folklore. The folklore to be developed comprises traditional Indonesian folklore spreading throughout the country in every province. It is expected that educational practitioners use a book about folklore in the learning process and the School Literacy Movement. The results of the teaching materials validation show that reading literacy learning materials using folklore are valid and can be tried out.

This study aims to find out whether effective letter sound training can improve initial reading skills in Grade 1 Elementary School students. This Letter Sound Training refers to the Phonological Awareness theory of Torgessen and Wagner (1998) Phonological Awareness is the sensitivity or explicit awareness of a person which includes the ability to hear, see, think or manipulate the sound structure of words in the language. The subjects in this study were 12 grade 1 elementary school students who had not read fluently. The students were divided into 2 groups, namely the control group and the experimental group. The data collection tool used as a test at the pre-test and post-test was EGRA (Early Grade Reading Assessment). Letter Sounding Training was conducted in 8 meetings, and the results of the study showed a very significant increase in the reading ability score in the experimental group after being given letter sound training. It was concluded that letter sound training proved effective in improving the ability of elementary school students

This research was an experimental research. The population in this study were students at grade III of elementary schools in RA Kartini cluster. From this population, the research samples were 60 grade III elementary school students. Data collection techniques included giving questionnaires, observation and documentation. The final analysis utilized descriptive analysis and inferential analysis. Inferential analysis was coducted by operating independent sample t-test to determine the influence role playing and snowball throwing models. The results of the analysis of the first hypothesis test between the role playing class and the conventional class showed a significance value of 0,000 (0,000 <0.05) and the tcount value was 3,943, while the ttable value was 2.024 (3,943> 2,024), meaning that Ha1 was accepted. This indicated that role paying had an effect on speaking skills. The second hypothesis test between the snowball throwing class and the conventional class showed a significance value of 0.02 (0.02 <0.05) and the t-count value of 3.370, while the t-table value was 2.024 (3,370> 2,024) meaning that Ha2 was accepted. This confirmed that the snowball model throwing significantly influenced the students’ speaking skills. The third hypothesis test showed that between the role playing and snowball throwing learning models the significance value of speaking skills was 0.017 (0.017 < 0.05) and the t-count value was 2.498 while the t-table value was 2.024 (2.498> 2.024). Referring to the hypothesis testing, Ha was accepted and Ho3 was rejected while Ha3 was accepted. Thus, it was concluded that role playing learning model was more influential than snowball throwing learning on the students’ speaking skills at the second grade of elementary school in Gugus RA Kartini.

The purpose of this investigation was to compare the level of tactfulness produced in messages constructed by school-age children with language impairment (LI) and school-age children with normal language development (NL). The LI children were enrolled in special classes for children with language impairments. They ranged in age from 8 to 12 years. They were matched by gender and chronological age to a group of NL children from the same school district. The subjects were presented with role-playing situations that required the construction of tactful messages. The responses were coded according to a five-point heirarchical system that reflected tactfulness. The procedures and scoring systems were adapted from the research of Pearl, Donahue, and Bryan (1985). The LI children gave significantly less tactful messages than the NL children. Developmental advances in the scores were noted only for the NL children. The results are discussed in terms of the nature of language impairment and clinical significance.
