This study examines the activities of teaching-learning writing discussion texts when product and process-based approach combination is implemented in EFL writing classroom, the effects of applying the writing approach on EFL students’ writing skill, and the students’ attitude toward the implementation of writing approach in the classroom. It uses a mixed-methods through applying an embedded design by involving 24 second-grade students of a private university in West Java, Indonesia. There were four instruments used, namely field notes, videotapes, students’ tests (pre-test and post-test), and questionnaires. The findings show that the students were actively involved in class when the teacher applied the writing approach in writing classroom. There was also the improvement in the students’ writing skill based on the result taken from the students’ tests since the level of significance (two-tailed) in paired t-test is less than the alpha (0.000<0.05). Qualitatively, the improvements were also found in generic features, textual language, and syntactical language aspects. In addition, the students showed highly positive attitude (4.35 average score) toward the implementation of the approach in the classroom.Keywords: writing, writing skill, discussion texts, product and process-based approach combination

Four Square Writing Method is a writing method which helps students in organizing concept to write by using a graphic organizer. This study aims to examine the influence of applying FSWM in combination of product and process based approaches to teaching writing discussion texts toward students� writing skill, the teaching-learning writing process and the students� attitude toward the implementation of the writing method. This study applies a mixed-method through applying an embedded design. 26 EFL university students of a private university in West Java, Indonesia, are involved in the study. There are 3 kinds of instrument used, namely tests (pre and post-test), field notes, and questionnaires. Data taken from students� writing test are analyzed statistically to identify the influence of applying the writing method toward students� writing skill; data taken from field notes are analyzed qualitatively to examine the learning writing activities at the time the writing method is implemented; and data taken from questionnaires are analyzed descriptive statistic to explore students� attitude toward the implementation of the writing method. Regarding the result of paired t-test, the writing method is effective in improving students� writing skill since level of significant (two-tailed) is less than alpha (0.000<0.05). Furthermore, the result taken from field notes shows that each steps applied and graphic organizer used in the writing method lead students to compose discussion texts which meet a demand of genre. In addition, regard with the result taken from questionnaire, the students show highly positive attitude toward the treatment since the mean score is 4.32.Keywords: FSWM; combination of product and process based approach, discussion text

This research was aimed to find out  The Effectiveness of Team Assisted Individualization (TAI) is effective towards students’ writing. The research was quasi experimental research and the design that used was the pre-test and post-test design. The population of the study was the second grade students of SMPN 4 Praya Barat which consisted of two classes. Those classes were took as the samples, those were VIIIC as experimental class and VIIIA as control class. Experimental class was treated by using Team Assisted Individualizati0n (TAI) and control class was treated by using Roundtable technique. The instrument that was used essay test, the topic was about descriptive text. The score were analyzed by using descriptive and inferential analysis, descriptive analysis was used to describe mean, median, mode and standard deviation both of group, and the inferential analysis was used describe the value of t-test for comparison between t-table. Based on the analysis, it shows that the value of (t-test) was 2,95 is higher than the value of (t-table) was 1,688 as the level of significance level was 0,05 and the number of degree of freedom (df) was 36. Therefore, based on the result of the analysis, it be concluded that Team Assisted Individualization (TAI) was effective toward students’ writing. The results of this research showed that Team Assisted Individualization (TAI) was compatible in writing because the technique given many advantages, the students’ feel comfortable to learn in group and they were argued that Team Assisted Individualization (TAI) make the teaching learning process more interesting since they can ask and can be peer tutoring for their friends. Finally, the researcher suggests that in teaching writing the teacher should be creative in preparing and delivering writing materials.

The aim of this study is to find whether Think – Talk – Write Strategy works effectively on improving the tenth grade students’ achievement in writing recount texts and to know the students’ responses after being taught by using Think – Talk – Write Strategy . in order to  achieve the objectives of study, a classroom action research was designed and carried out in this study. The subjects of this study were 32 students of class X- MIA2  OF SMA Santo Yoseph Medan in academic year 2018/2019. Test, observation sheet, and field notes were used as a instruments for collecting data. The results of the study showed significant improvement of the students’ skill in writing. It is proved by the students’ mean score of each test: pre-test was 57,5%, formative test was 67,22% and post-test  was 83,88% . In addition, the, the analysis result of the observation sheet and field notes showed Think – Talk – Write Strategy channge the students’ learning behavior being better than before. They were more enthusiastic during the teaching learning process in each cycle. The analysis result of questionnaire showed that Think – Talk – Write Strategy was useful to most of students to improve their learnig interest in writing recount text. Based on the results of those study instruments, it can be concluded that Think – Talk – Write Strategy as learning strategy gives the improvement to students’ skill in writing recount text. It is recommended for English teacher to apply Think – Talk – Write Strategy in teaching writing skill in order to improve students’ skill in writing expecially recount text.

The background of the study was based on the phenomenon at the seventh graders of the SMP BOPRI Godean. Learning English especially writing skill were still low in mastering vocabulary, sentence structure, and paragraph organizing. The research aimed (1) to analyze the students’ writing by using scaffolding technique; (2) to describe the improvement of the students’ writing skill by using scaffolding technique; and (3) to find out the students’ interests in writing skill by using scaffolding technique. To solve the problem, the researcher conducted Classroom Action Research and applied scaffolding technique in teaching English to improve student’s ability in writing skill. The participants of this research were the 14 students of the seventh graders of SMP BOPKRI Godean. In this study, the researcher conducted a scaffolding technique of teaching writing descriptive text in three cycles by using scaffolding model adapted from Silvia Read. The five steps in scaffolding technique by Silvia Read were inquiry, modeling, shared, collaborative, and independent. The researcherexpected that the students could improve their writing skill by using the scaffolding technique and interested in English writing skill. The result of this study was showed by pre-test and post-test. In pre-test, the students’ average score was 49, whereas in the students’ post-test cycle one, the students’ average score was 64. In the second cycle, the students’ average score was 75.9. Finally, the researcher could conclude that the result of this research showed an improvement of the students’ writing skills by using scaffolding technique.

The study was aimed to examine the effectiveness of three writing techniques, namely Cluster Mapping, Flow Charting, and Double/ Triple Entry in improving the students’ writing skill. The research technique used was descriptive comparative technique using a quantitative approach. It compared the equations and differences as phenomena to find what factors/ situations that can cause the occurrence of a particular event. The data collection techniques were Documentation study by taking the students’ writing product and interview by giving the question and answer while face to face between the interviewer with the respondent using a tool called interview guide. The try out was conducted to measure validity and reliability. The two ways ANOVA was conducted to test the hypotheses, two –way analysis of variance with F-test at the 5% (0.05) level of significance. The subject of this study was the fourth semester English students with a total of 22 people. The English students’ writing skill using three techniques was tobe the object under the study. The findings of the study were the average writing score of students using Cluster Mapping was 56.5, the average score of students’ writing using Flow Charting was 49.6, and the average score of students’ writing using Double/ Triple Entry was 63.0. This research entitled “The Effectiveness of TTW (Think-Talk-Write) Strategy in Teaching Writing Descriptive Text. TTW (Think-Talk-Write) strategy is one of strategy in teaching learning process, TTW (Think-Talk-Write) strategy one of cooperative learning. Think-Talk-Write (TTW) Strategy is starting from involvement of students in thinking or dialogue with it self after reading process. Then talk and share ideas (sharing) with friend before writing. One group consist of 4-6 students, in this group of students requested making notes, explaining, listening and sharing ideas with friends and express them through writing. The problem of the research is “To find out the effectiveness TTW (ThinkTalk-Write) strategy in teaching writing descriptive text?” The population in the research is the second grade students of UNSWAGATI CIREBON. The writer takes two classes of the second grade students as the sample from this research which were divided into two groups; experimental group (7AB) and control group (7CD). The instruments of collecting data are tests; pre-test and post-test. To analyze of data, the writer used a quasiexperimental design. The writer gave writing test to gather the data. There were pre-test and post-test. The formula that was used analyze the data was t-test. It was used to determine whether there was significance difference between students’ score in experimental group and control group.

This study is classrom action research. It is carried out at SMP N 2 Metro in Academic Year of 2017/2018. The objectives of the research: (1) to find out whether guided question technique can increase the students’ writing skill in descriptive text; (2) to describe the process of teaching writing using guided question technique. The population of the research is the seventh grade students of SMP N 2 Metro in academic year 2017/2018 that consist of 32 students. The research is conducted in two cycles. The procedure of the research consists of identifying the problem, planning the action, implementing the action, observing the action, and reflecting the result of the research. Qualitative data are collected through interview, observation. In the meantime, quantitative data are collected through test. To analyze qualitative data, the researchers use miles and huberman model. It consists of three steps: data reduction, data display and data conclusion. Meanwhile, to analyze quantitative data, the researchers employ descriptive statistic.    The result of the research indicates that the implementation of guided question technique improved the students’ writing skill in descriptive text. The average score of pre-test is 56. In the cycle 1, the researchers giving the treatment and get the students’ average score of post-test 1 is 69,23. After applying the revised planning in cycle 2, the average students’ score in post-test 2 is 76. It has reached 75% of 32 students that indicated the students passed the criterion of success. The result of students’ participation in cycle 1 and cycle 2 did a significant progress and improves in every meeting of each cycle. In addition, the use of guided questions technique is able to increase the students’ writing skill in descriptive text. The research has some suggestions; for the English teacher, it is useful to implement guided questions technique as one alternatives teaching, for the students it can be used to make the students easier in writing a text and for the further researcher this study can be used as a reference.

Good writing is important aspect in teaching writing subject. But, the researcher find on the students some problems that they faced in their writing which are in generating the ideas, orginizing and vocabulary. Besides, the teacher also has problems in applying the appropriate strategy and media in teaching writing. Based on the previous studies, Think Pair Share strategy gave the positive effect for the students. This study was to examine the significant effect of Think Pair Share on Student’s Writing Skill through Padlet for Xth Grade at SMA Muhammadiyah 9 Brondong. And the researcher uses quasi Experimental design. The researcher choose Tenth grade at SMA Muhammadiyah 9 Brondong which totally consisted of 56 students. The researcher used cluster sampling because the school has been detemined the classification of the students. It was included 28 students of X IPA 1 as the Experimental Group and 28 students of X IPA 2 as the Control Group. The data was gathered by utilizing tests; pre-test and post-test about composing illustrative content. In the wake of getting the information, the specialist broke down the information utilizing SPSS 16.0 and utilized Independent Sample T-test. The examination finding indicated that there was a noteworthy contrast between test bunch that were educated by utilizing Think Pair Share through Padlet and control bunch that were instructed by utilizing Think Pair Share through Pictures.. It was Therefore, the researcher suggest to the English teacher for implementing of Think Pair Share strategy through Padlet as an altenative strategy in English teaching learning process and hopes to use Think Pair Share strategy through Padlet in other skills and levels to make different with the previous study.proven by the result of sig.(2tailed) is .000. The sig. (2tailed) is lower than 0.05 (0.00 < 0.05) so, null hypothesis (H0) can be rejected. The researcher concluded that Think Pair Share Strategy gave positive effect on student’s writing skill. The students were motivated and independent in learning writing especially in eneratig the ideas, organizing the ideas, and vocabulary. This research contributes by forming new think pair share steps which are associated with the use of technology that can help students much better in discussing in a learning that is the padlet.

Writing is the most important human invention which provides a relatively permanent record of information, opinions, benefits, feelings, arguments, explanations, and theories. Many students are still confused how to write a text because they do not know the rules and they can not express their ideas into written form. One of the techniques to improve students’ writing skill is Dictogloss Technique. The method that is used in this research is Classroom Action Research (CAR). The subject of this research are 35 students of class VIII-4 of SMP Negeri 31 Medan in the academic year of 2018/2019. Tests, observation sheets, field notes, and questionnaire were used as the instruments for collecting the data. The result of this study showed increasing score of students’ writing descriptive text. The result of the test showed that the students’ mean score in pre-test is 60 with 0% students got score 75, in formative test the mean score is 76.71 with 60% students got score 75 and in post-test the mean score is 80.85 with 94% students got score 75. It showed that the percentage improvement of the students’ mean score from pre-test to post-test was 94%. The response of students after being taught by using Dictogloss Technique are good. The students enjoyed the process of teaching and learning. It is suggested that teachers use Dictogloss Technique in teaching writing skill to improve students’ skill in writing descriptive text.

Writing is troublesome to be  learned  and  taught for some students. One technique that can be used in teaching writing is TPS. The research was conducted in SMP Plus Nurulhidayah Pasundan. The researchers identify some problems, such as: 1) Does teaching writing using TPS improve the students’ writing creativity?, 2) How is the teaching and learning situation when TPS implemented in the writing class?. Classroom Action Research was used in this research. From the result of pre-test, we found that the result of students’ writing was under average and still far from what was expected. The finding was supported by the result of students’ writing scores. The average score of pre test was 47.1. After the implementation of TPS activities in every cycle, the students’ writing score were getting better. It can be seen from the result of students’ average score Cycle 1 was 51.8 and Cycle 2 was 71.09 It can be concluded that TPS can improve students’ writing creativity and TPS can improve writing classroom into a better situation. Keywords:  Think Pair Share, Writing Skill, CAR
