The object of this research is the phraseological units in translation of the novel “Eugene Onegin” by A. S. Pushkin into the Portuguese language. Analysis is conducted on the concept of phraseological units and methods of their classification in the scientific literature. The article aims to examine the methods of conveying phraseological units in the two noncognate language, as well as reveal ethnocultural differences in the set phrases denoting similar concepts. The author believes that understanding and proper interpretation of phraseological units are essential for translating foreign literature, learning and teaching foreign languages. The research employs the methods of contextual and comparative analysis of phraseological units of the Russian culture in translation of the novel, which allowed discerning the differences in cognition of the text among the native speakers of Russian and Portuguese languages. The novelty of this article lies in referring to the only existing translation of the novel “Eugene Onegin” into the Portuguese language, which was has not previously become the object of linguoculturological research. It is revealed that phraseologisms are widely used in the novel and can be classified by the degree of stability, metaphoricity and motivation word collocations. The author indicates the differences in linguistic means of conveying phraseological units in the Russian and Portuguese languages, as well as determines the ways of conveying phraseologisms in translation of the novel, such as phraseological equivalent, analogue, calquing, and descriptive translation. In translation of the meanings of Russian phraseologisms into the Portuguese language, the translator was able to achieve considerable accuracy, although it is difficult to convey the national flavor of the novel to the fullest.

The subject of this research is the ethnocultural lexicon in translation of A. S. Pushkin’s novel in verse “Eugene Onegin” into Portuguese language. The author views the term realia as a lexicon with ethnocultural semantics inherent to determination of linguistic identity. The goal of this research consists in the analysis of the methods of conveying realias in the two non-cognate languages, as well as in determination of ethnocultural differences of the lexemes signifying similar notions. The author assumes that understanding and accurate interpretation of culturally marked lexicon are essential for translating foreign literature, as well as studying and teaching foreign languages. Contextual and comparative analysis of the realias of Russian literature in translation of the novel served as the methods for this research, which allowed determining the distinctions in cognition of text among the Russian and Portuguese native speakers. The novelty of this work is defined by reference to the only translation of the novel “Eugene Onegin” into Portuguese language that has not previously been an object of linguoculturological study. It is revealed that realias are being used in multiple spheres of human activity and may contain cultural component in the meaning of words and their connotation. As a result, the author indicated the differences of language means of conveying realias in the Russian and Portuguese languages; as well as established the ways of conveying ethnocultural lexicon in translation of the novel, such as correlation, hypo-hypernymic translation, adaptation, periphrastic translation, and calquing.

The article analyzes the features of the transferring culturally-marked vocabulary used to designate modes of transport, using the English language translated by V.V. Nabokov. This study is based on the material of Pushkin’s novel “Eugene Onegin”, which is considered the encyclopedia of Russian life in the early 19th century. As the distinguishing characteristics of the work, one can indicate the presence of linguistic and cultural components that are difficult for native speakers to perceive a different mentality. On the basis of the etymological and semantic analysis, the evolution of meanings and the internal form of the identified lexemes in English and in Russian are specified, as a result of the analysis of the texts of the Commentaries, the translatior’s interpretation of the indicated lexemes is indicated. Through a lexico-semantic comparative analysis of V.V. Nabokov’s translation and the original text, methods of transmitting language units indicating the names of different modes of transport, their degree of equivalence and the cause of observed inconsistencies have been identified. It has been found that the methods of transmitting the meanings of lexemes used in the original text are: exposure, transcription, concretization, contextual substitution, use of equivalents and functional analogs. It can be concluded that the features of similarity and differences of the novel and its translation are determined both by the world view of the translator and by the specificity of English and Russian linguistic culture.

Purpose of the study: This research reveals the problem of teaching foreign languages to future journalists. Attention to the issue of learning and teaching foreign languages is dictated by their special role in the professional activities of journalists, which cover almost the entire world's geography and include systematic communication in a foreign language with native speakers. Results: Under the conditions of constant transformations, it is not only the student audience that is changing, in particular, journalism and media communication students, by the example of which the high rate of transformations of the surrounding world becomes especially noticeable due to the specifics of their profession. Higher education, functioning in the age of the "digits", also undergoes great changes in terms of material selection and educational approaches. This study examines the feasibility of combining classical and modern educational technologies in the process of teaching a foreign language to future journalists. Applications of this study: This research can be used for the universities, teachers, and students. Novelty/Originality of this study: In this research, the model of the Teaching Foreign Languages to Journalism and Media Communication Students: The Combination of Modern and Classical Approaches are presented in a comprehensive and complete manner.

The aim of this study is to analyze the types of figurative language which found in Ugly Love novel by Colleen Hoover. This study used figurative language theory by Leech to analyze the data which the researcher found in the novel. The method of this study is descriptive qualitative method. The total of the data are 87 data to be analyzed in the types of figurative language. The data will be identify and classify into 8 types of figurative language by Leech. The result of this study found 6 types of figurative language in this Ugly Love novel. That are 33 data of personifications (33 data) , 19 data of similes, 11 data of irony, 10 data of hyperbole, 9 data of metaphors, and 5 data of metonymy. The most of dominant type of figurative language in the Ugly Love novel by Colleen Hoover is personification.

This paper presents a linguo-axiological analysis of French and Russian proverbs based on identifying value orientations and creating their hierarchy by studying the names and quantitative dominance of various thematic groups in authentic paroemiological dictionaries. Identification of value orientations allows us to reveal both common features of ethnic groups, which are of interest in the era of globalization and mutual influence of languages and cultures, and specific ones, contributing to the preservation of national identity. The novelty of this research compared to the author’s previous studies lies in the use of two additional lexicographic sources (one French and one Russian). The examined material of the four dictionaries includes more than 30,000 proverbial units. The analysis revealed the presence of a large number of common topics (which can occupy different positions in the value hierarchy of the ethnic groups under study) not only in dictionaries of the same language, but in all four sources. The names of the categories and their quantitative composition allow us to define French culture as individualist, while Russian culture, as collectivist. When constructing a hierarchy, it is important to turn to a larger number of dictionaries and identify common proverbial units in them to avoid the influence of the subjective factor, which is the case when naming and forming categories, as well as of the researcher’s individual approach to the proportion of category names to their corresponding values. The expanding vocabulary and studies on evaluativity in proverbs aiming to identify value and anti-value components within various topics can be used for further research.

The article presents a portrait of the famous Chinese soprano singer Guo Shuzhen, who was one of the first performers of the role of Tatiana in China. It reconstructs in chronological order the stages in the creative path of Guo Shuzhen, who turned 2021 in 94. She began her ascent to the opera Olympus at the Central Conservatory of Beijing, where she was a student of Professor Sheng Xiang, the "Chinese Caruso", and completed her studies at the Moscow Conservatory, which she graduated with honours. In the class of Professor E. K. Katulskaya, а former soloist of the Bolshoi Theater, the singer joined Russian culture and Russian music and mastered the classical opera repertoire. The part of Tatiana seems to have been inherited by her teacher as E. K. Katulskaya sang this part at the Bolshoi Theater. In 1962 Guo Shuzhen took part in the production of the opera "Eugene Onegin" by P. I. Tchaikovsky at the Beijing Tian Qiao Theater and helped in the translation of the opera's libretto into Chinese. To date, Guo Shuzhen is a Professor of Vocal Music and Opera Department at the Central Conservatory of Beijing.

The classification of Russian culture-bound terms used in the novel “Quiet Flows the Don” by M. A. Sholokhov and in its translation into the English language. The novel “Quiet Flows the Don” by M.A. Sholokhov and its translation into English done by Robert Daglish have served as the source for the research of culture-bound terms. These terms have been classified on the basis of the subject division offered by S. Vlakhov and S. Florin. It is proved that the interest to the study of culture-bound terms is still important. The relevance of the research is determined by the fact that despite numerous research papers in this field the origin, classification and translation of these terms still need some investigation. The aim of the present study is to classify the culture-bound terms taken from the novel “Quiet Flows the Don” by M.A. Sholokhon and its translation into the English language. As a result, there have bben taken 407 samples of the lexical units with a cultural component which were classified according to the subject principal offered by S. Vlakhon and S. Florin. The culture-bound terms have a great influence on a foreign reader as they are cultural units that transmit the information of the daily routine and the historical epoch described in the novel. The culture-bound terms taken from the novel “Quiet Flows the Don” by M.A. Sholokhov and its translation are analyzed and classified. The division of the culture-bound terms according to the subject principal allowed to reveal that most terms refer to the daily routine, social and political life and military terms.

Abstract: As the time in which online teaching and learning was still an element of novelty has long been gone, virtual learning environments have to be studied thoroughly so that they will provide students not only with the necessary knowledge, but also with the proper tools to meet their learning objectives. The advancement in information technology and the access to an almost inordinate number of learning and teaching tools should have already been fructified and, as a result, not only teachers, but also learners should have already picked up the fruit of knowledge grown in the vast virtual environment of the Internet. However, as education has recently moved almost entirely online, some questions have arisen. Are the Virtual Learning Environments (VLEs) enough to offer ESL students both motivation and knowledge? Will foreign languages benefit from this growing trend or will traditional, face-to-face interaction, prove to have been more efficient? The present article will look into some of these questions and into the benefits of VLEs in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic.
