The traffic problem in Jakarta can be seen as a social dilemma problem. The commuter here face the dilemma to decide to commute by private or public transportation. This decision situation reveals the conflict between immediate self interest and longterm collective interest. The goal of this reseach is twofold. First, the research elaborrate the differences in the level of interest of among the commuter in the transportation modes. Second, the research analyse the influence of social dilemma awareness of the commuter to prioritize the common interest of the commuter. The first reseach question is answered by employing descriptive analysis and the second one is analyzed by inferential analysis. The results of this research reveals some important points. First, the commuter think that the congestion is the most traffic problem in Jakarta. Second, private transportation is preferred transportation mode than public transportation. Third, the commuter intention to prioritize public transportation is influenced by three factors, i.e. flexibility, low fare, speed (short duration).

A contemporary interpretation of Adam Smith's work on jurisprudence, revealing Smith's belief that progress emerges from cooperation and a commitment to justice. In Smith's theory, the tension between self–interest and the interests of others is mediated by law, so that the common interest of the community can be promoted. Moreover, Smith informs us that successful societies do at least three things well. They promote the common interest, advance justice through the rule of law, and they facilitate our natural desire to truck, barter, and exchange. In this process, law functions as an invisible force that holds society together and keeps it operating smoothly and productively. Law enhances social cooperation, facilitates trade, and extends the market. In these ways, law functions like Adams Smith's invisible hand, guiding and facilitating the progress of humankind.

Group action is inherent to a pluralistic society. In various fields, numerous bodies purport to defend and promote the common interest of their members which is also the raison d'être of the group. How receptive is the judicial system to attempts by such groups to legally defend the common aim ? « Collective actions » are brought to assure the legal protection of a collective value which is not of a general societal nature as is the public interest. However, their purpose is not to defend the subjective patrimonial interest of the members of the group or even of the group itself. The underlying collective interest is first to be objectively identified in order not to unduly curtail the reception of the collective action; then it is for the Court to establish whether there is a sufficient relationship between the collective interest and the general objects of the group, as officially defined, in order to allow the latter to act. This analysis of the « sufficient interest », as required by Sec. 55 C.C.P., it is suggested, appears to be more adapted to the nature of the collective action than the immediate requirement of a « direct and personal » interest from the group, at least if this notion is to be understood as involving some form of patrimonial interest, as in most trials.

This study aims to analyze the Jambi City community transportation modes' needs and diversity and influencing factors. This study uses primary data and secondary data. Primary data comes from a sample of households in Jambi City. Meanwhile, secondary data comes from related agencies or institutions at the National, Provincial, and City of Jambi levels related to transportation macro conditions. This study uses descriptive statistical analysis to analyze the diversity of transportation modes used in Jambi City. Meanwhile, to analyze the factors that influence transportation mode choice, it is estimated using logit ordinal regression models. The analysis results found that the primary mode of transportation used by the Jambi City community was personal motorbikes. Public transportation is the second choice, and the use of private cars is the third option. The choice of transportation mode is influenced by gender, main activity, car ownership, motorcycle ownership, and household income.

Jakarta is increasingly improving its public transportation services. At present, a breakthrough in the development of transportation has been made, especially related to the protocol road. These include expanding Transjakarta routes, Mass Rapid Transit, and Light Rail Transit. The addition of the number of modes of transportation has an impact on the addition of the number of stations or stops. However, it does not match by the availability of the government in procuring land for connecting transportation modes into deeper areas. The formal and informal transportation providers as an introduction to integrated transportation users still use the highway corridor as their place to raise, lower, and wait for passengers. Not yet found a place to raise, lower, and wait for those around the top of the officially integrated mode of transportation from the government or service providers. Therefore, this study was conducted to see how the division of land used by providers of the integrated transportation mode connector. This research method is to observe the spread of land use providers of formal and informal transportation services.

The Government of Jakarta is trying to reduce the traffic volume by launching many new rail-based public transportation modes in this Jakarta Capital Region, one of them is Jakarta LRT. There are so many special things at the LRT Velodrome Station, for example the strategic location of Velodrome, the Jakarta International Velodrome stadium, integrated with Transjakarta transportation mode, etc. Even though the Jakarta LRT is the new transportation mode, but the Jakarta LRT only used by few people, because the route is still too short only 5,6 km (Pengangsaan Dua to Velodrome). So, this research discuss about the preference of passengers in using Jakarta LRT as the option for their daily transportation. The analysis of data obtained in this research by using the “Importance Performance Analysis” method, and analyzed the validity and reliability by using SPSS 24 program. The results of people’s preferences by using Jakarta LRT in this research are located in quadrant II that have a good performance on passengers satisfaction, so the performance must be maintained. And the items that needs to be improved for the efficiency and effectiveness are located in quadrant I that requires the high priority on its performance

Environmental issues are social dilemmas. In a social dilemma, the individual is faced with the choice to put his personal interests, or cooperate with other individuals by prioritising the common interest. Researcher look at environmental problems has two interrelated issues, namely the issue of environmental justice and sustainable consumption issues. This research will investigate individual’s perceived justice on willingness to cooperate in social dilemma situation. Willingness to cooperate is representing sustainable consumption in social dilemma’s term. This study used experimental method. The results of this studies were as follows. Individual’s perceived justice is determined the willingness to cooperate. Over consumption behavior seemed create unfairness to individuals. Participants were prefer equity rules of fairness than equality rule of fairness to distribute resources among them. The awareness of social dilemma is having a role as a partial mediation that mediate the influence of perceived justice to willingness to cooperate. The awareness of social dilemma altered the preference of fairness from equity to equality.

This chapter considers how the joke about breeches fitted into a way of thinking about human association that set decorum alongside justice, reciprocity alongside property, distinction alongside equality, fashion alongside price competition, equity alongside legality, honnêteté alongside charity, and “sublime” self-love alongside ordinary human selfishness. More fundamentally, it also fitted into the type of claim about the relationship between the passions and the arts that could be found in the works of Jean-Baptiste Dubos or Voltaire, and of how, in conjunction, they could keep morality alive. For Rousseau, the alternative to “the masterpiece of politics of our century” involved a rather limited array of individual interests and relied heavily on the part played by public opinion in shaping social behaviour. With these in place, self-interest and the common interest would coincide, without requiring any further motivation to be supplied by benevolence or altruism.

Accessibility research of healthcare facilities is developing towards multiple transportation modes (MTM), which are influenced by residential transportation choices and preferences. Due to differences in travel impact factors such as traffic conditions, origin location, distance to the destination, and economic cost, residents’ daily travel presents different residential transportation mode choices (RTMC). The purpose of our study was to measure the spatial accessibility of healthcare facilities based on MTM considering RTMC (MTM-RTMC). We selected the gravity two-step floating catchment area method (G2SFCA) as a fundamental model. Through the single transportation mode (STM), MTM, and MTM-RTMC, three aspects used to illustrate and redesign the G2SFCA, we obtained the MTM-RTMC G2SFCA model that integrates RTMC probabilities and the travel friction coefficient. We selected Nanjing as the experimental area, used route planning data of four modes (including driving, walking, public transportation, and bicycling) from a web mapping platform, and applied the three models to pediatric clinic services to measure accessibility. The results show that the MTM-RTMC mechanism is to make up for the traditional estimation of accessibility, which loses sight of the influence of residential transportation choices. The MTM-RTMC mechanism that provides a more realistic and reliable way can generalize to major accessibility models and offers preferable guidance for policymakers.

The health crisis of the COVID-19 outbreak has global impacts on humanity and theeconomy. Such pandemic effects also influence human behaviour; issues of panic buying(overbuying) and noncompliance with government orders and law among individuals areevident. However, the underlying understanding of such behaviours due to the pandemic remainsunclear. Therefore, this perspective paper adopts the social dilemma theory and microeconomicsconcepts to analyse and explain the effects of COVID-19 on social behavioural reactions. Itattempts to address the questions of what and why are the behaviours of individuals shown duringthe coronavirus pandemic and showcase how the theory is associated with the current socialphenomena. Real scenarios based on media reporting from the sociodemographic context ofMalaysia, concerning the following issues; (i) competition over daily essentials; (ii) self-honestyof individuals; and (iii) adherence to government policies and measures enforcement(governance) were discussed. A conceptual framework was developed to illustrateinterrelationships between social dilemma concepts and the phenomena. In essence, due to fear, uncertainty, and greed, self-interest and opportunistic (defective/unethical) behaviours of mostindividuals prevailing over societal collective interest amid the pandemic have been prevalentlyobserved in the above instances, although a cooperative choice can eventually result in a betteroutcome for everyone. Not only do these non-cooperative behaviours of individuals createinconveniences, dissatisfactions, and other forms of negative externalities, they also incentiviseothers to act selfishly, if no restrictions are imposed, which may eventually cause governmentintervention failures. This paper demonstrates the relevancy of the social dilemmas theory inbetter understanding fundamental human behavioural reactions amid the health crisis and theimportance of incorporating the findings into government policymaking. Thesesociopsychological considerations help the government formulate holistic measures, namelystringent sanctions and monitoring enforcement, as well as incentivising cooperative andcompliant behaviours of the public, which then contribute to curbing the COVID-19 pandemicmore effectively.
