To verify the multiple relations of physical education participation, school grade, age, and sex with longitudinal cardiorespiratory fitness changes in children and to identify if there is a mediator role of longitudinal body composition changes in these relations. Methodology: This is a longitudinal study, carried out from March to November of 2019, with children from 6 to 12 years old, 150 boys and 80 girls. Children were classified according to a cut point of 70% of participation in physical education classes (>70%= High PE x <70%=Low PE). Outcomes were Body Composition (BC): body mass index, skinfolds, waist to height ratio, and Cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF). Individual delta variation (D%), Cohens D, Bonferroni test, generalized estimative equations (GEE), and structural equations model (SEM) were estimated.  Results: The results show a general boy’s and girl’s increasing in BC variables and a decrease in CRF at follow-up which more strength in the Low PE group compared to the High PE group. The SEM model showed that Children in the High PE group have the most decrease in BC variables and it is a role to relations between the High PE group with increasing in CRF.  Conclusions: High PE group was associated with a D%CRF increase, it is an indirect association mediated by D% BC reduction. The SEM presents children that reduce BC also increasing CRF and vice-versa. The present study appoints that High PE participation is important to minimize the negative longitudinal effects of fatness on CRF.

Physical activity (PA), body composition and sedentary behavior may affect the health of children. Therefore, this study examined the effect of an educational hybrid physical education (PE) program on physical fitness (PF), body composition and sedentary and PA times in adolescents. A 9-month group-randomized controlled trial was conducted in 150 participants (age: 14.63 ± 1.38 years) allocated into the control group (CG, n = 37) and experimental group (EG, n = 113). Cardiorespiratory fitness, speed, strength, agility, flexibility and body mass index (BMI) were assessed through previously validated field tests. Sedentary time, PA at school and afterschool were evaluated with the Youth Activity Profile-Spain questionnaire. Significant differences were observed concerning to the CG in APA-weekend (p = 0.044), speed-agility (p = 0.005) and agility (p = 0.008). Regarding the intervention, cardiorespiratory fitness (p = 0.000), speed-agility (p = 0.000), strength (p = 0.000), flexibility (p = 0.000), agility (p = 0.000), PA in school (p = 0.011), APA-weekday (p = 0.001), APA-weekend (p = 0.000), APA-week (p = 0.000), and sedentary time (p = 0.000) increased significantly in the EG. The use of a hybrid program based on teaching personal and social responsibility and gamification strategies produced enhancements in cardiorespiratory fitness, agility, speed, APA-weekdays and APA-weekends, reducing the sedentary time.

The aim of this study was to provide percentile values for a cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) field test for Latin-American adolescents (34,461 girls and 38,044 boys) aged 13 to 15 years. The role of fatness parameters on the CRF level across age groups was also examined, with a focus on non-obese (healthy) and obese groups. CRF was assessed using the 20-meter shuttle run test protocol. Anthropometric parameters were measured using body mass index z-score (body mass index (BMI) z-score), BMI, waist circumference (WC), and waist-to-height ratio (WHtR). Participants were categorized according to the BMI z-score, WC, and WHtR international cut-off points as healthy and obese. Age- and sex-specific reference tables for the 3rd, 10th, 25th, 50th, 75th, 90th, and 97th centile scores were calculated using Cole’s lambda, mu, and sigma method. The prevalence of obesity according to the BMI z-score, WC, and WHtR was 9.6%, 11.2%, and 15.0%, respectively. Across all age and sex groups, a negative association was found between relative peak oxygen uptake ( V ˙ O2peak) and BMI, WC, and WHtR. In boys and girls there were higher levels of performance across all age groups, with most apparent gains between the ages of 13 and 14 years old. Overall, participants categorized in the healthy group had shown to have significantly higher V ˙ O2peak than their obese counterparts (p < 0.001; Cohen’s d > 1.0). In conclusion, our study provides age- and sex-specific reference values for CRF ( V ˙ O2peak, mL·kg−1·min−1). The anthropometric parameters were inversely associated with CRF in all ages in both sexes. The obese group had worse CRF than their healthy counterparts independent of anthropometric parameters used to determine obesity.

The purpose of this study was to analyze how the relationship between communication with customers, loyalty, and trust are mediated by a correct handling of customers' complaints. A survey of 629 customers of the hotel sector, and using structural equations modeling, was used. The results demonstrated that good customer communication and information when handling claims positively and significantly influences customer loyalty and trust. Loyal and trusting customers is one of the aims of companies. These are generally determined by the communication carried out by the firm. Nevertheless, it is understandable that there is a mediator variable: the firm's handling of customers' complaints.

Physical education (PE) has the potential to promote health-related fitness, however, its contribution is still not clear. The aim of this study was to assess whether students’ health-related cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) improved from the beginning to the end of the school year, and to examine the role of PE class intensity and habitual physical activity (PA) in promoting students’ CRF. This observational study employed a longitudinal design. Participants were 212 7th and 8th grade students (105 boys), mean age 12.9 years old, followed during one school year, from September 2017 to June 2018. The Progressive Aerobic Cardiovascular Endurance Run (PACER) was used to assess CRF at baseline and follow-up. PA was measured using accelerometers. PE class intensity was assessed using the System for Observing Fitness Instruction Time. Findings indicated that from the beginning to the end of the school year, a greater percentage of participants were in the CRF healthy fitness zone (73.1% to 79.7%, p = 0.022). Among boys, participating in organized sports (B = 4.61, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.33, 8.88) and the percentage of PE time being very active (B = 0.90, 95% CI: 0.44, 1.35) were positively associated with the change in PACER laps. Among girls, daily vigorous PA (B = 0.38, 95% CI: 0.15, 0.60) and participating in organized sports (B = 4.10, 95% CI: 0.93, 7.27) were also positively associated with PACER change, while being overweight or obese (B = −5.11, 95% CI: −8.28, −1.93) was negatively associated. In conclusion, PE was demonstrated to have a positive role in the promotion of CRF, especially among boys, while for girls, habitual PA seems to have a greater contribution. Nevertheless, results and conclusions should be considered carefully, taking into account study limitations, such as the non-direct measures of PE class intensity, CRF, and school setting.

The aim of this paper is to discuss the effect of the board’s capital on the firm value by the intermediation of the board’s functions. We took a sample of 73 Tunisian public limited companies and we tested the direct impact of the board’s functions on the firm value and its mediator role on the relationship between board’s capital and firm’s value by using structural equations. Our results show that only the board’s cognitive function has an impact on shareholder and stakeholder value. In fact, the board’s disciplinary function loses its signification by integrating the skills and competencies of directors. Moreover, the board’s cognitive function plays a mediator role between the board’s capital and the firm’s value. Our study aims to stress the new role of the board of directors as a provider of skills and expertise that can ameliorate the value of the firm by assisting the manager in making adequate decisions.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate the role of university identification to explain students’ involvement in extra-role behaviours and turnover intentions. The theoretical model developed, specifies the relationships between university identity and identification and between identification and behavioural patterns. Design/methodology/approach Data have been collected from a sample of 338 students from an Italian University. Then, they have been analysed adopting linear regression models (multiple when occurs) and a path analysis through structural equations models has been developed. The Sobel test has been used in the analysis to verify the mediator role of variables. Findings The results show that: the university identity perception of students have significant effect on university identification process; and student-university identification have significant effect on student’s advocacy, that is negatively related to turnover intention. Originality/value This paper provides support for the importance of brand management in higher educational context. Institutions would benefit from communicating their identities clearly, coherently and in a persuasive manner, emphasising those aspects of the university’s identity that students and future students will perceive as prestigious and similar to their identities.
