On earlier stages of Russian economy establishment and development different institutional forms were built, which fostered social and economic development of territories, raising investment, attracting new technologies aimed at producing goods with high added value and cutting unemployment. The article discusses issues of special economic zone (SEZ), characterized as technical-introductory, and their impact on economic development of regions of their location. The efficiency of SEZ work was analyzed according to methodology approved by the Government of the Russian Federation. Statistics on key social and economic figures of regions proves the efficiency of SEZ work and their positive contribution to the territory development. A conclusion was drawn that SEZ in the near future can become key economic centers, which could integrate companies – SEZ residents by the cluster type and characterize the industry specialization of the region and at the same time could become a mighty stimulus for social and economic development of adjoining territories. Investment plans of companies – residents in the region and industry specialization of key companies and clusters on territories will start a new stage of building the efficient work aimed at complex SEZ development.

There is strong empirical evidence that workforce diversity is beneficial for organizations. The theoretical concept of faultlines stresses, however, that diversity can also have negative consequences. This is the case when the sub-groups differ not just with regard to one characteristic but with regard to several characteristics simultaneously. This paper is the first to examine the negative consequences of faultlines with large-scale data on organizations in the public and private sector. Fixed-effects regressions are used to investigate the impact of functional (working time, tenure, qualification) and demographic (age, gender, nationality) faultlines on turnover and organizational performance. We also consider the interaction between firm size and faultlines. Regarding turnover, we do not find the expected negative effects of demographic and only limited evidence for functional faultlines. The effects of demographic faultlines on performance, in turn, are negative for small organizations and become positive for organizations with more than 10 members.

Purpose – Considers the subject of work stress and the potential liability to employers that may arise. Design/methodology/approach – Provides details of recent cases from England and Wales that bear upon workplace stress. Findings – Explains that, for liability to arise, there needs to be an injury to heath, and this needs to be attributable to stress at work. Practical implications – Advances the view that employers can reduce the likelihood of a successful claim as follows: reduce stress in the work environment; give clear written guidance on actions that employees should take if they feel that they are stressed and ensure the message is conveyed with evidence that this is the case; have a confidential help-line that can refer stressed employees to obtain appropriate help; train managers to look out for the signs of stress and act on them; and pay special attention to anyone who has already exhibited signs of stress or had time off work because of stress. Social implications – Argues that mental disorders are more difficult to identify than physical ones. Originality/value – Claims that the threshold for employer liability remains high. The employee will find it difficult to make a successful claim for workplace stress where the person keeps the fact that he or she is stressed from the employer.
