The purpose of this study was to determine how online learning was implemented in elementary schools during the COVID-19 pandemic. This research was conducted in elementary schools in the Muara Enim District, in Sumatra Selatan, Indonesia. This was descriptive research and a qualitative approach was used. The research subjects were elementary school teachers. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and documentation analysis. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model. The results showed that: 1) teachers were not ready in terms of planning and implementing online learning; 2) most elementary school teachers in Muara Enim District used the Whatsapp application in the process of implementing online learning; 3) online learning tended to be less effective because elementary school students still dependend on teachers and parents; 4) student learning outcomes tended to increase during online learning; this was indicated by the average score of students which was ≤ 70 before online learning and ≥ 90 after online learning. Teachers were still hesitant in reporting the assessment of student learning outcomes, because during online learning the teacher cannot supervise students’ completion of the assignments. For this reason, parent cooperation is needed for educating and guiding their children during online learning and so that teachers can determine the development of student learning outcomes at home. As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the government issued a policy to change learning and teaching activities offline to online. However, there are still many obstacles experienced by teachers and students in implementing online learning. The purpose of this study is to analyze and evaluate the level of readiness of elementary school teachers, especially low-grade teachers, in dealing with and implementing online learning and independent learning during the covid-19 pandemic. This research belongs to the type of evaluative research (evaluation study). The research data is in the form of verbal attitude statements from the subjects studied, namely elementary school teachers in low or early grades. Data were collected using questionnaires and interviews. The data that has been collected is then analyzed descriptively qualitatively. The results of the analysis of document study data and interviews showed that 70% of lower grade elementary school teachers as the research subjects tended to state that they were ready to carry out online learning and were free to learn for their students. This readiness is coupled with the expectation of the availability of online learning facilities for both teachers and students and training on the use of IT media for teachers to create smooth and innovative online learning. The implication is that even though learning is carried out online by adhering to independent learning according to existing provisions, the process and student learning outcomes will be maintained and carried out properly according to the expectations, which are also stated in the learning objectives.

Changing the learning system during the pandemic period from offline to online requires teachers' readiness, including elementary school teachers. Demands for mastery of technology in learning and the characteristics of elementary school students who need direct guidance in learning are teachers' problems. However, not all primary school teachers are ready for technology-based online learning. This study aims to investigate the readiness of primary school teachers in online learning in terms of three aspects, namely cognitive (knowledge and perception), affective (emotional condition), and moral (skills). The research method uses a mixed-method with data collection techniques using a questionnaire deepened by interviews. The research respondents were 22 elementary school teachers in Tlekung village, Junrejo district, Batu City. Data analysis used descriptive statistical analysis and qualitative analysis. The results showed that the teacher had a low readiness to carry out online learning in general.
