“Stars” from the Tube (by Evgeny Dukov) deals with the new socio-cultural trend - individual artistic industry. It developed on the basis of appearance in the Internet of the Blog website (1990-s) and the YouTube video hosting (2000-s). Arisen independently of one another, they began to play a very important role in contemporary musical life: the bloggers became conductors of the new musical content that they would “catch” in the Internet; the technical capabilities of YouTube made saturation of that content simple, even for novice users. All this has led to the emergence of a new type of “stars”; they “break out” without any assistance of show business professionals, without competitions and festivals, but always with some initial aid of bloggers. The Internet audience finds something interesting for themselves in the creative work of the “stars”, which makes music critics, sociologists, and other specialists solve the problem of artistic preferences of the modern (mostly young) Internet audience. However, the bloggers themselves usually remain in the shadows. They unselfishly open to the web community and promote in the Internet any phenomenon which, from their point of view, can claim the status of artistic.

From the point of view of a student of art history in the 1980s re-entering the discipline as a graduate student, the ‘new’ art history represents a dramatically wider field of enquiry involving new methodologies, although ‘old’ art history is still pursued by some academics. The ‘new’ art history employs an interdisciplinary approach which embraces materials far beyond ‘traditional’ art historical sources, and so information has to be sought outside the art library and via the Internet. Librarians responsible for supporting art history studies need to keep in touch with teachers, with curriculum developments, and with the discipline itself; it may also be helpful to get involved in staff/student use of the Web, and to collaborate with other Humanities librarians. The way in which the ‘new’ art history branches out in all directions parallels the hypertext linkages of the Web and the complexity of our globally-connected world.

With the recent increase in used trading sites that support used trading, users want to find various information in real time, and the development of the Internet consists of direct and indirect connections between businesses and consumers. This change created a new type of C2C (Commerce to Commerce) transaction. However, each used trading site has its own characteristics, making it difficult to standardize one. Therefore, in this paper, we construed a system that provides the user’s used transaction data in real time and provides the desired information quickly. In this paper, we developed the crawler system needed to develop an integrated transaction system for second-hand goods through Internet e-commerce transactions, defined morphological analyzers, and described the service that users can employ in the web environment by using the system developed in the paper.

A new simulation library is developed on OMNeT++ to model faults in distribution systems. The proposed library makes it possible to calculate the status of lines and busbars from the point of view of a protection system, enabling the modeling of overcurrents, power outages and fault passage indicators. The library is applied to model a decentralized protection system based on the exchange of IEC 61850 Generic Object Oriented Substation Events (GOOSE) messages between intelligent electronic devices responsible for the operation of circuit breakers and disconnectors. The time needed to secure and transmit GOOSE messages over the Internet is characterized and included in the model. Several studies are carried out to analyze the effect of different parameters, such as GOOSE retransmission times and failure rates of switching devices and communication channels, on the performance of the protection system.

With the major advances of the Internet throughout the past couple of years, websites have come to play a central role in the modern marketing business program. However, simply owning a website is not enough for a business to prosper on the Web. Indeed, it is the level of usability of a website that determines if a user stays or abandons it for another competing one. It is therefore crucial to understand the importance of usability on the web, and consequently the need for its evaluation. Nonetheless, there exist a number of obstacles preventing software organizations from successfully applying sound website usability evaluation strategies in practice. From this point of view automation of the latter is extremely beneficial, which not only assists designers in creating more usable websites, but also enhances the Internet users’ experience on the Web and increases their level of satisfaction. As a means of addressing this problem, an Intelligent Usability Evaluation (IUE) tool is proposed that automates the usability evaluation process by employing a Heuristic Evaluation technique in an intelligent manner through the adoption of several research-based AI methods. Experimental results show there exists a high correlation between the tool and human annotators when identifying the considered usability violations.

Introduction. The relevance of studying the textual parameters of radio text is determined by a new form of its functioning – the convergence of audio, graphic, verbal and action codes in the discursive space of the Internet. The processes of technological integration of radio and the Internet are influenced by socio-economic changes associated with the understanding of “journalism as a service”, providing two-way communication with the recipient – the consumer of a variety of program and application services. First of all, the recipient receives the status of an active agent of discursive practice and the subject of interactive content that manages the relationships between his and other texts on the network. Material and methods. The semiotic characteristics of radio text are considered, which ensure its coherent integrity at the recipient level. As the main feature, a temporal rhythmic organization is singled out, which differently specifies the radio text of analog broadcasting and network. Based on the semiotic theory of the text, the integral significance of the tempo-rhythmic structure of radio text for both forms of broadcasting is proved. Results and discussion. It seems that the process of generating text in these conditions should be considered from the point of view of the category of textuality. As an integral textual characteristic, significant for the qualification of the radial product of analogue (auditory) and convergent radio, the temporality is considered. The semiotic potential of the rhythm is realized in organizing the attention of the listener and the user of the network version of the radio. The paper considers the specifics of the implementation of the temporal structure in analogue and convergent broadcasting, draws conclusions about its conceptual significance for the formation of the axiological picture of the world of discourse. The dynamic structure of the rate of analog (audio) radio text is manifested at the paraverbal level of its organization, in those super-phrasal connections that allow you to connect the scattered attention of the addressee to certain fragments of the speech stream, keywords, images and emotions. The temporal rhythmic mechanism for activating attention in convergent broadcasting implements the promotional code for the interaction of the recipient, an interactive user, who displays the activity of choosing entertainment products and involvement in its consumption necessary for discursive practice. Conclusion. An analysis of the radio text of various technological nature allows us to talk about the parameters of text formation relevant for a media text characterized by semiotic hybridity, genre polymorphism and the specific role of the addressee involved in the generation of text content.

Over the last century or so, English has become a global lingua franca. Today, English is the first language of 400 million people and the second language of as many as 1.4 billion (Millward & Hayes, 2012: 342). In addition, it is the language that is predominantly used on the Internet; 80% of homepages on the Web are in English, followed by German (4.5%) and Japanese (3.1%) (Millward & Hayes, 2012: 343). Needless to say, English serves as a medium of communication regardless of the speaker's first language. As English spreads globally, fragments of its lexicon also permeate native languages, enriching their lexicons. This paper is concerned with the use of English and its elements, including English-derived words, in contemporary Japan, especially within the discourse of ‘Manners Posters’, posters which promote good manners in public spaces, and advertising texts. These types of media display creative and innovative uses of English that interact with Japanese at various linguistic levels in the form of wordplay, communicating messages, sometimes even in the form of puns, to achieve particular ends in a given context. We will look at this phenomenon from the ‘glocal’ point of view – i.e., the mechanisms and effects of a fusion between ‘global English’ and local culture that create a localised or nativised taste of the global.

This chapter centres around a new type of creative and artistic expression, namely the gif. Positioned somewhere between an image and a video, the gif provides an interesting sense of narrative, since it presents itself on a never-ending loop. Although this type of moving image is currently associated with contemporary social media and the internet, its roots go back to the beginning of cinematic history, when the first recorded moving images were displayed repeatedly in from of the viewer. As such, starting from these cinematic roots, the present chapter will deal with the intricacies of the gif's narrative pattern and the status of art on the internet, before delving into the analysis of a series of gifs which were part of an art exhibition.
