In the last two decades, a new direction has appeared in the study of innovation processes in the literature. Researchers are paying more and more attention to social innovation beside the classical Schumpeterian approach. Social innovation is new solutions (product, technology, organizational solution) that can effectively meet market needs that are not or hardly met on a market basis, innovation can lead to new or more advanced skills / relationships, and contribute to a more efficient use of resources. However, there is no uniform definition of the concept. The issue of social innovation is particularly important in the case of the Northern Hungary region, because it can bring hope for some peripheral areas and a new approach to solving problems. High technological innovation potential and performance do not necessarily go hand in hand with high social innovation activity, so in the case of peripheral regions there is a hope for social innovations even in the absence of technological innovations.

Social innovations are targeted measures that are capable to resolve social problems (Rammert 2010) and they are directed towards an improvement of the situation (Gillwald 2000). Finally, they are directed towards an amelioration of the situation (Gillwald 2000). In Austria it is argued that ethnic business represents a type of social innovation (Haberfellner 2000). The question the paper addresses is if and to what extent ethnic business goes hand in hand with social developments and possibly boosts social change. Entrepreneurs of Turkish origin in Salzburg are the focus of analysis. The paper starts with a definition of the term ‚social innovation‘ (1), the issues of ethnic vs. migrant business (2.), followed by the description of the labour market situation of Turkish migrants in Salzburg and discrimination in the labour market (3.), and, to to round up, the analysis of biographic interviews with Turkish entrepreneurs in Salzburg (4.). The preliminary results show that there exist social problems such as the lower socio-economic situation of Turkish migrants in Salzburg and discrimination in the labour market. These problems can be seen as basis for the need of social innovations. But nevertheless Turkish run ethnic businesses in a strict sense of the word are no social innovation because they do not act against the problems in an intended way; they rather work on their own account. They may overcome disadvantages on the labour market but their actions are not directed towards overcoming the problem per se. It is much rather a transintentional aspect (Schimank 2010), which goes beyond the economic interest of the actors.

AbstractCurrent development of renewable energy systems (RES) is characterised by an increasing participation of citizens in the upstream decision-making process. These citizens can be future users of the RES but also members of a Renewable Energy Community that develop RES. They can be at the same time Renewable Energy producer, investor and consumer. Moreover, several type of businesses and terms are used to cope with social innovations within the energy sector: local renewable projects, sustainable energy communities or community of renewable energy production. So, actors' engagement opens new solutions for designers who are induced to share alternatives before making decisions. They usually impose constraints since the early phases of the design process. This approach implies for designers to consider new criteria related to citizens motivations and barriers. This paper presents a study to define the main factors that drive people to contribute in social innovation schemes for clean-energy transition. After a state of the art, a survey about 6 main factors and 18 criteria is presented. The analysis based on the responses from 34 participants (i.e. experts) reveals 2 most important factors of motivation and 2 principal barrier sources.

The national innovation system is one of the main mechanisms for restructuring the Russian economy. The implementation of innovations, the active development of the science and technology industry creates the necessary conditions and prerequisites for the transition of the economy to its new technological structure, providing an innovative type of economic growth. In recent years, the literature has developed many approaches to the definition of the concept of “innovative potential”. Some authors consider this category as a set of resources and capabilities of the system to create and implement innovations. Others define innovative potential as a measure of the region’s readiness to create and promote innovations. The third group of authors treats innovation potential as a result of innovation activity, identifying in some way the concept of “innovation potential” and “innovation process”. This article discusses approaches to the definition of a comprehensive indicator of innovative potential. The assessment methods considered in this article allow to determine the level of innovative potential of an organizational system, to perform a comparative analysis of systems according to a generalized indicator of innovative potential and its components, and also to develop programs for the development of organizational systems taking into account the effective use of innovative system capabilities.

This chapter focuses on social innovation, a topic that the literature has been increasingly discussing in the last decade. The authors revise the many available (and, to some extent, too general) definitions as well as identify the main features that have been claimed as relevant for social innovation (e.g. Mumford, 2002), which concur in providing its definition. By doing so, they pursue the assessment of a less fuzzy definition of social innovation and make a first attempt to focus on the role that companies play in developing as well as scaling social innovations. The adopted approach exploits the literature review and is based on an in-depth analysis of the definitions of social innovation: the authors collected and catalogued them, so identifying the main dimensions of analysis. Clarifying what social innovation is and the role that companies play in social innovation initiatives can increase companies' awareness of what they (can) do with respect to social innovation, possibly taking advantage of this in terms of business objectives.

The article aims to identify priority areas for the enterprises’ innovative potential development. The results of the study are the determination of factors of enterprises’ innovative potential development. The main factors are related to the globalization of economic processes, including the digitalization of the economy, the high rate of dissemination of progressive knowledge, the business ecosystems’ development. The main directions of improving the efficiency of innovation potential management are investing in a fuller use of digitalization by enterprises, intensification of consolidation processes, paying more attention to benchmarking. The urgency of leadership initiative in intensifying innovation, the spread of program-targeted organizational management structures for the enterprises’ intellectual potential synergy, the development of export potential for effective scaling of innovations are stated. The general relevance of the development of intrapreneurship by stimulating the development and use of innovation potential is grounded. The definition of innovation potential has been clarified. The multilevel orientation of enterprises’ innovative potential: external – on increase of customers’ satisfaction level, formation of external image, internal – on improvement of all components of enterprise’s potential, formation of internal image are substantiated. The role of the components of the enterprise potential in relation to the innovation potential, namely, its resource provision, production and supply of the innovative product on the market, the cyclical nature of innovation, work motivation is defined. The relationship between innovation potential and innovation activity is substantiated. A system of criteria and indicators for evaluating innovative ideas is proposed. The basic criteria are: consumers, market, intellectual property, the status of the idea, the effectiveness of innovation. Customer-centric approach as the basis of innovation activity coupled with earning capacity for the enterprise provides its strategic competitive advantages and investment attractiveness.

This report is aimed at clarifying the essence and specifics of company innovation policy and strategy. The two categories are shown as interpersonal and intertwined. Markets and products are the two cornerstones of company policy that binds it to the production and distribution of goods. Its success is conditioned by the introduction of novelties, the upgrading of the assortment and the analysis of the marketing environment. This combines innovation with company policy and strategy. Company innovation policy is a system of management actions for organization, management and insurance of conditions for creation, implementation and successful market realization of innovations. It is a sequence of activities in planning, organizing, developing and introducing novelties by using administrative and economic leverage to maintain a positive innovation potential. The paper also discusses the components and tools of company innovation policy.Each company develops its common strategy, which is a complex program with visions of action on the priority directions of its development. In the sphere of innovation it is connected with the ability to conduct a competitive struggle for the development and implementation of the novelties. The innovative strategy of the company is reflected in its innovation program, which is the basis for implementing the company's innovation policy. The definition of the prospects and the orientations of the strategy and policy for technological innovation and innovation activity is related to the market, production, investment, organizational, social and other spheres of development. They can be grouped into three main strategies: leadership in overall costs; product differentiation; concentration in the field of business. In connection with the elucidation of the essence the subject presents the types of innovation strategies and policy.

This article places the topic of “social innovation” in the context of the paradigm shift of the 1980s. This shift from Fordism to post-Fordism has led to a weakening of the model of the European welfare state. Social innovation has become an instrument to promote regional self-responsibility and entrepreneurial activity by local authorities. The concept of social innovation has become widespread among various disciplines and controversially used by them. Referring to regional and corporate success stories based on the commitment of grassroots movements and civil society has its shortcomings, as the new spatiality regimes show increasing disparities. The article shows the different lines of conflict in the discussion about social innovations and makes suggestions for the specification and delimitation of the concept. Using two case studies on social innovations from mountain regions of Switzerland, based on standardized interviews, including the results of a social network analysis, the article distinguishes between adaptive and transformative social innovations. The adaptive social innovations analysed did not result in changing the inferior position of the regions; however, they prevented even greater destabilization by mobilizing the dynamic actors in the valley to work together. This is helpful for ensuring that the urban majority continues to show solidarity with the population in rural and mountain areas. The constructive interaction between public, private, and civil society institutions is seen as the key factor of social innovation in the European peripheral areas to which most mountain areas belong.

We have applied the term “entrepreneurship” to the development of non-profit organizations working in the field of social and innovation activity. We consider entrepreneurship as a process of personal, self-organizing or systemic renewal and self-organization, as a movement through the development of ideas towards creating new and existing enterprises. We reviewed the promotion of social innovations on a methodological basis of sociosynergetics using cross-disciplinary and fractal-evolutionary approaches. The introduction of innovations is accompanied by the irreversibility expressed by the violation of symmetry between the past and the future (according to I. Prigogine), and the research of innovations requires the introduction of the concept of an “event”. Some events should have the ability to change the course of evolution. The criterion for evaluating the advancement of social innovation is the degree of its influence on the social system: the local nature of the impact (change in one or several order parameters) – Auto-Poesies models; the emergence of a new parameter of order in connection with the acquisition of a new quality of the social system – Synergy-integrating models; the allocation of a new sub-system in the framework of the modernized old social system – Openness entrepreneurship models; the birth of a fundamentally new social system, accompanied by the destruction of the old order parameters. In managing innovation processes, it is important to choose such innovations that are in line with the trends in the development of the social system, given the scale of social consequences.

In this turbulent market environment enterprises are forced to adapt continously as they must be flexible in order to meet changing market needs. To achieve flexibility companies require innovation. The economic relevance of innovations is significant in every market sector and agriculture is no exception. Re-dynamizing agricultural  nnovations is a possibility for the outburst of the Hungarian agriculture. Agricultural enterprises have to face competitors as well and they should give priority to efficiency, sustainability and competitiveness in order to preserve their position in BOTH global and domestic markets. This study examines the innovation potential of the agricultural enterprises in the North Great Plain region based on public databases and case studies.
