Central Connecticut State University stated in 2016, Indonesia was ranked 60th out of 61 countries regarding literacy. According to UNESCO literacy is the ability to identify, understand, interpret, communicate, in various contexts. The National Alibaca Index said that most provinces in Indonesia have a low literacy index, including West Kalimantan, which is ranked 3rd out of 34 provinces. However, in Pontianak City, in the last 5 years, various literacy-based activities such as exhibitions, book fairs, discussions have been intensively held, as well as recorded more than 20 literacy communities in 2019. All literacy activities are organized independently and have no special space. Therefore, considering literacy needs and problems, the potential location for the design area is Jl. General Ahmad Yani, Pontianak City. However, there are problems where there is no standardization that can be used as a reference for designing a Literacy Center. Therefore, the design method used is the Design Thinking method, which, according to Kambel (2009), is a creative approach by gathering information and opportunities available to be synthesized into innovation and work ideas. Through this method, facilities such as exhibition rooms, classrooms, reading and collection, as well as spatial arrangements and forms are found to accommodate literacy activities in Pontianak.

<p>傳統的建築設計課程皆以每學期幾次不同題型的設定,期望在設計操作的反復練習中,幫助操作者探索合適的操作方法並從中建立設計邏輯。設計題目的設定規範了操作的方向與期望的成果,但因設計發展並沒有既定的步驟與方法,常因個人經驗與所選擇設計方式的不同,導致過於感性的思維模式,也造就了理性建築設計教學的挑戰。此研究針對題目設定與設計邏輯的關係,試圖避開操作者可預期的結果,並藉過程中不同階段性的操作設定,試圖建立一種設計邏輯發展的依據。</p> <p>&nbsp;</p><p>Traditionally, architecture design studio requires few exercises per semester for students to practice design method and develop design thinking. As design exercises often direct design approach and also establish expectation of outcome, there is no guaranty procedure or design method to follow in order to achieve the best outcome. Since design development heavily based on experience of operation and choice of approach, sensible thinking process is often involved and sets challenge for rational architectural pedagogy. This research aims to exam the design thinking process of students by setting up specific design exercise to avoid predictable operation process, in order to direct specific design approach according to established guidance for further development. </p> <p>&nbsp;</p>

AbstractThis case study deals with a redesign effort to face the overcrowding issue in an Emergency Department (ED). A multidiscinary group of healthcare professionals and engineers worked together to improve the actual processes. We integrate the simulation modeling in a human-centered design method. We use the simulation technique as a learning and experimentation tool into a design thinking process: the computational descrete event simulation helps explore the possibile scenarios to be prototyped. We used the simulation to create a virtual prototyping environment, to help the group start a safe ideation and prototyping effort. Virtual prototyping injected into the organizational context the possibility of experimenting. It represented a cognitive low-risk environment where professionals could explore possible alternative solutions. Upon those solutions, we developed organizational prototyping tools. Top management and head physicians gained confidence for a more grounded decision making effort and important choices of change management and investments have been made.

With development of nonlinear construction theory and digital technology, parameterization construction design has drawn extensive attention in construction industry as a new method of solving complex problems in construction. Parameterization design method has broken through the qualitative and transcendental design methods for design issues in the traditional design process. After getting rid of the form constraint of Euclidean geometry, generation of construction space and form is on the judgment basis of quantized data. Such bottom-up dynamic design process has broken through imprisonment of traditional form and construction design has returned to the original point of rational creation. In this paper, a certain foundation is laid for theoretical researches on development, influence and future of parameterization design from the aspects of parameterization design concept, tool, scheme generation, its influence on design thinking, etc.

Much design theory research seeks to create, evaluate, improve or optimize design methods. Whether that research focuses on design thinking, tools, methods, or education, short design problems are often provided to participants in order to evaluate the effects of the variables being tested. When designing and creating such problems, certain characteristics may influence design outcomes: experience and exposure to the design problems vary between participants, and each problem may be more or less favorable to the controlled variable. In this paper we conjecture a small set of design problem characteristics that may influence experimental outcomes, and we discuss two experiments targeted at uncovering this influence. In our first experiment we examine differences in evaluation metrics between two design problems. In a follow up experiment we correlate the hypothesized characteristics to the variances in experiment outcome. These early results assist to further compare and contrast the empirical differences in common evaluation metrics, as well as show how familiarity and extent of the subjects’ knowledge of a design problem influence these metrics. We also expose the potential for interaction between the design method and the design problem.

Landak Regency has many natural resources that have the potential to be used as natural tourism objects. One of them is Dait Waterfall which has 7 floors and is located in an unspoiled forest area. The area is often visited by tourists from various regions of West Kalimantan. However, there are several problems related to supporting facilities and infrastructure that are not up to standard for tourism activities, so that the tourism potential is not maximized. For this reason, it is necessary to design a "Dait Waterfall Tourism Area in Landak Regency" which is in accordance with tourism standards and local environmental needs, with the concept of ecotourism that uses a sustainable environmental approach and empowerment of local communities. The arrangement is done by designing which starts from the function analysis process, which includes the main functions and supporting functions. The main functions include recreational aspects and supporting functions consisting of commercial functions, ecological functions and community participation functions. The design method consists of the introduction, definition, preparation, analysis, synthesis, evaluation and re-evaluation stages. The design process is applied in the construction of the main tourism facilities and infrastructure such as outbound areas, camping areas, selfie areas, and others. In addition, supporting facilities and infrastructure such as management areas, commercial areas, service areas, utility aspects, and others. With this design, it is hoped that the Dait Waterfall Tourism Area will attract more tourists from a wider variety of areas.

This article discusses the connotation and value of reflective level design. By analyzing some products of the four angles of reflective level including self-image expression, reflection of implication and understanding, narrative interpretation and metaphor, this article gives deep reflections of the reflective level product design. Finally, this article proposes a creative product design method based on emotional design, develops and enriches the current design methodology, and provides a new idea and possibility for cultural product design.

The research attempts to reveal the design thinking that goes on in the designer’s mind when he tries to allocate a certain activity inside the architectural project. The research views designing as an explicable process even if beginner or experienced designers couldn’t give convincing reasons for all the decisions they make. The designer is a person who works on the data given to him and produces his design idea through a planned succession of analytical, structural and evaluative steps until he reaches the best possible solutions. Accordingly, the research hypothesizes that the activity   inside the architectural project depends, to a great extent, on the development of the design idea in the designer’s mind. The aim of the study has been to reach the best design method for activity inside the architectural project through design strategies.

Writing is still considered a difficult skill to master. Problems arise from variousaspects of writing namely grammar, vocabulary, types of text, outline, and soon. Tackling these problems is possible with appropriate teaching method. TheCollaborative Thinking Design Method (CoDeT) was chosen as an effectiveand innovative method to help students improve students’ writing skills as thisencouraes them to be active in the learning process and discuss with classmates.The purpose of this study was to determine whether there was a significantimprovement in the use of CoDeT method in students’ writing skills. Usingthe VII grade students of MTs AT-Tawazun Subang in year 2019/2020 aspopulation, this study used quantitative methods with experimental researchdesign. The average values obtained in the Pre- and post-test were 52.73 and91.92, respectively. This means that Tcount ttable or 4.01 3.06, with theresult that students’ writing skills are enhanced using Collaborative DesignThinking (CoDeT) method instead of the conventional method. This meansthat there is a significant improvement in the inclusion of Collaborative DesignThinking (CoDeT) method on students’ writing skills. It implies that CoDeTmethod can enhance students’ ability to teach writing skills in narrative texts.Through this research, several advantages of using the Collaborative DesignThinking (CoDeT) method in teaching writing skills to seventh grade studentswere revealed, such as 1). encouraging students to be actively involved in thelearning process and 2). facilitating students in understanding teaching materialthrough discussion.
