Nasal packing is a skill which all primary care physicians should possess. The current curriculum does not include this skills training in undergraduate studies. The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of structured nasal packing module for 3rd MBBS students in the skills lab and to evaluate the improvement of student's confidence level in managing . Project proposal approval was obtained from the Institutional review board in Saveetha Medical College & Hospital. After obtaininginformed consent, 114 students of III MBBS-Part I was included in the study. They were divided into 3 batches. Students were given study material and video at least one day before the session. A brief lecture followed by a demonstration of nasal packing was done. Students were allowed to practice nasal packing on mannequins in the presence of faculty. Confidence level questionnaire were given to assess their confidence level before and after practicing on mannequins. Question 1 was on instrument use, 2 on traditional anterior nasal packing, 3 on pack and 4 on postnasal pack with ’s catheter. The mean confidence level scores before and after hands on training on mannequin were 9.18 and 12.45 respectively. T-test and Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test was done to compare the results. There was a statistically significant improvement in the confidence level of students following hands on training (p value: 0.000). This paper aims to assess the effectiveness of research self-efficacy short-term information technology (IT) skills training intervention administered to 3rd year and 4th year undergraduate students at three provincial Cambodian universities. The training intervention was conducted at the universities' computer centers where the internet could be accessed. The training lasted three weeks for 60 hours in total and covered topics such as using statistical analysis software, Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), and referencing software. The participants were 461 undergraduate students at universities during the 2018 academic year. The survey method used for this study was based on the “Research Self-Efficacy Scale” by Phillips and Russell (1994), which was administered before and after the training. The research used descriptive statistics and paired sample t-test for data analysis. The findings of the study revealed that the participants’ research self-efficacy perceptions increased after conducting the intervention. The results showed that there was a significant increase in mean score after intervention based upon a 5-point scale from 2.10 (SD = 0.68) before the intervention to 3.57 (SD = 0.54) afterward. These findings suggest that IT training intervention is beneficial for undergraduate students at provincial universities in Cambodia resulting in an improvement in research self-efficacy.

AbstractQualitative occupational training and assessment through acquaintance with the knowledge and insight for transference of concepts and procedure of the fundamental scientific and mathematical skills obtainable in engineering profession produces effective and efficient engineering graduates. Thus, it is a guarantee of effective technical manpower development for the sake of the nation. This is the conceptual basis for this study as it assesses the relevance of workplace and industrial work experience of engineering students to their professional skills training and competence development in engineering disciplines in Nigeria universities. The survey instrument designed for data collection from the participants in the study was an open and closed-ended format questionnaire. It comprises placement category, job experience category, relatedness of placement to the chosen career, relatedness of knowledge/skills in the deployed station in places of attachment and additional gained experience through hands-on incidents during industrial training period. The questionnaire was hand delivered to the participants. Data analysis has been carried out using SPSS version 16.0. Pearson Moment Correlation Coefficient at 95% confidence intervals were computed to determine the extent of association between the relevance of the knowledge/skills obtained during students’ industrial training and the establishments where they were employed for their SIWES to their course of study. P value < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. The findings has shown that there was positive correlation (‘r’ value of 0.375) between the experiences gained in the establishments where students were attached for their industrial training as well as the knowledge and skills acquired in the places of their industrial training. This implies that skills and competence development in engineering career fundamentally enhances students’ training in engineering field through hands-on experience involved in industrial training.

Abstract Background: Urological education is as important as surgical training for undergraduates. However, those in undergraduate medical schools have less exposure to surgery and urology as their curriculum focuses more on clinical skills, particularly community-based healthcare for a super-aging society. This study aimed to evaluate whether urologic hands-on training could encourage surgical and urological interest in medical undergraduate students. Methods: A one-day elective program in urologic surgery at the University of Tsukuba, particularly in robotic, laparoscopic, and endoscopic surgeries, was offered to 58 fourth-year medical students in 2018 and 2019, prior to their clinical clerkship. The average age of participants was 22 (range: 21–25) years. We assessed scores (1–5 Likert-type items) in training activity, interest in surgery, and interest in urology before and after the course. Results: Before attending the program, average scores in interest in urology were 3.53 in 2018 and 3.15 in 2019. After training, the total likely scores of this program in 2018 and 2019 were 4.59 and 4.76, respectively. The likely scores in surgery increased after the program; however, this was not significantly different to that prior to the program. However, the average interest scores in urology were significantly increased to 3.91±0.63 (p<0.05) and 3.88 ± 0.58 (p<0.01) in 2018 and 2019, respectively, indicating a motivation to pursue surgery and urology following clinical clerkship, 1 year after training. Conclusions: Urological hands-on training facilitated interest in urology in medical students prior to their clinical clerkship. Early experience in actual urological procedures could encourage medical students to consider specializing in urology and pursue a career as a urological specialist.

Experiential learning is a learner-facilitating tool that has not been sufficiently explored in Higher education institutions in Oman. There is a growing body of literature that recognises the importance of ‘learning by doing,’ ‘hands-on approach’ or ‘experiential learning.’ Experiential learning grew in popularity with adult learners since the time of Dewey and progressed with several scholars researching on the potential benefits of applying experiential learning methods in vocational and technical training institutions. The notion that knowledge is gained through active involvement in a specific task is a construct that has been researched in the present study. It endeavours to foster learner autonomy through the implementation of instructional tasks based on Kolb’s experiential learning cycle. The main objective was to observe the change in perceptions of learners on their autonomous behaviour before and after the intervention. Through convenience sampling of 60 undergraduate students, enrolled for various pathways on the business programme were selected for this study. The quantitative data was collected by administering a learner autonomy questionnaire and a set of self-designed experiential learning classroom activities. The findings of the study revealed that experiential learning cycle activities implicitly fostered learner autonomy and enabled learning necessary skills for the workplace.

Telepractice, defined by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA, n.d.) as “the application of telecommunications technology to the delivery of professional services at a distance by linking clinician to client, or clinician to clinician, for assessment, intervention, and/or consultation,” is a quickly growing aspect of practicing audiology. However, only 12% of audiologists are involved in providing services via telepractice (REDA International, Inc., 2002). Lack of knowledge regarding telepractice has been cited as one of the reasons many audiologists do not use telepractice to provide audiology services. This study surveyed audiology doctoral students regarding their opinions about the use of telepractice both before and after their opportunity to provide services via telepractice sessions. The authors expected that by providing students the opportunity to have hands-on training in telepractice with supervision, they would be more open to using telepractice after becoming licensed audiologists. Overall, the data indicates benefits of exposing students to telepractice while they are in graduate school.

Most causes of infant death are problems that occur in newborn/neonatal (0-28 days old), Low Birth Weight Babies (LBW) is one of the factors which has a contribution to infant mortality, especially in the neonatal period. Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) is a benchmark in determining the degree of public health, both at the National and Provincial levels. This study aimed to determine the effect of the Kangaroo Mother Care Method (KMC) on the prevention of hypothermia in low birth weight infants at Morowali District Hospital in 2019. The type of research used was a quasi-experiment. The population is all low birth weight babies born from May to July 2019. The sample in this study was all newborns with low birth weight born from May to July 2019, totaling 30 babies. There is a difference (influence) on the baby's body temperature before and after KMC with a p-value=0,000. The kangaroo mother care can continue to be affiliated considering its benefits for both infants and mothers, as well as increasing the ability of health workers in conducting KMC so that they can provide in-house training for mothers to be carried out at home.

ABSTRAK Tidur merupakan kebutuhan yang harus terpenuhi terutama pada fase perkembangan karena selama tidur akan terjadi perkembangan otak maupun tubuh, sehingga gangguan tidur merupakan masalah yang akan menimbulkan dampak buruk terhadap pertumbuhan dan perkembangan bayi. Kualitas tidur bayi yang baik dapat diciptakan dengan memberikan pemijatan bayi secara rutin. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membuktikan bahwa pemijatan dapat mempengaruhi kualitas tidur bayi umur 0-3 bulan. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain penelitian Quasy Eksperimental dengan metode One Group Pretest-Postest. Sampel 22 bayi yang dipilih dengan tehnik Total Sampling yang di observasi sebelum dan sesudah diberikan pemijatan. Variabel yang diukur dalam penelitian ini adalah kualitas tidur bayi 0-3 bulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada pengaruh pijat bayi terhadap kualitas tidur bayi umur 0-3 bulan (p value  0,008 < α = 0,05).Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ini disarankan agar keluarga dan masyarakat memberikan pemijatan secara rutin dan mandiri untuk meningkatkan kebutuhan tidur bayi yang berkualitas.   ABSTRACT Sleep is a human necessity that must be met, especially in the development phase because during sleep will occur the brain and body developments, so that sleep disturbance is a problem that would cause adverse effects on infants’ growth and development. The good quality of sleep can be created by providing the infants massage routinely. This study aimed to prove that the massage could affect the quality of sleep on the 0-3 months old baby. This study used Quasy-experimental design with One Group Pretest-Posttest. The sample 22 infants selected by total sampling technique observed on before and after the massage. The variables measured in this study are the quality of sleep. The results of study indicate that there is an effect of infant massage to the sleep quality on 0-3 months old babies (p value 0,008 < α = 0,05).Based on the results of this study it recommended for the families and communities to provide infant massage regularly and independently to increase the quality of sleep on the baby.

Objectives: One purpose of electronic reminders is improvement of the quality of documentation in office-hours primary care. The aim of this study was to evaluate how implementation of electronic reminders alters the rate and/or content of diagnostic data recorded by primary care physicians in office-hours practices in primary care health centers. Methods: The present work is a register-based longitudinal follow-up study with a before-and-after design. An electronic reminder was installed in the electronic health record system of the primary health care of a Finnish city to remind physicians to include the diagnosis code of the visit in the health record. The report generator of the electronic health record system provided monthly figures for the number of various recorded diagnoses by using the International Classification of Diseases, 10th edition, and the total number of visits to primary care physicians, thus allowing the calculation of the recording rate of diagnoses on a monthly basis. The distribution of diagnoses before and after implementing ERs was also compared. Results: After the introduction of the electronic reminder, the rate of diagnosis recording by primary care physicians increased clearly from 39.7% to 87.2% (p < 0.001). The intervention enhanced the recording rate of symptomatic diagnoses (group R) and some chronic diseases such as hypertension, type 2 diabetes and other soft tissue disorders. Recording rate of diagnoses related to diseases of the respiratory system (group J), injuries, poisoning and certain other consequences of external causes (group S), and diseases of single body region of the musculoskeletal system and connective tissue (group M) decreased after the implementation of electronic reminders. Conclusion: Electronic reminders may alter the contents and extent of recorded diagnosis data in office-hours practices of the primary care health centers. They were found to have an influence on the recording rates of diagnoses related to chronic diseases. Electronic reminders may be a useful tool in primary health care when attempting to change the behavior of primary care physicians.
