Dental caries is a complex progression due to dietary sugars, bacterial metabolism involving demineralization, and organic degradation. Caries are more prevalent among young children which are mostly untreated due to dental anxiety, behavioural changes, and mainly due to expensive treatment. So innovative approaches are needed to treat caries, especially in children. Arresting caries without restoration is possible by silver diamine fluoride (SDF) which is inexpensive topical medication. Silver diamine fluoride (SDF) is used to treat caries and also prevents future caries development. Silver diamine fluoride (SDF) is also used to treat sensitivity. Before silver diamine fluoride (SDF) silver nitrate and silver varnish were used to treat dental caries. Silver diamine fluoride (SDF) consists of silver, fluoride, ammonia, and water. Silver acts as an antimicrobial agent, fluoride as remineralization, and ammonia stabilizes high concentration. The study setting was an online survey. The number of participants involved was 129. A pre-tested questionnaire was circulated. The data was collected and analyzed using SPSS software. 41.9% of the population participated have heard of silver diamine fluoride (SDF), but 34% of the population are not aware of what it is used to treat. 37.2% of the population is also not aware of the method of application. From the studies, the participants are not aware of silver diamine fluoride (SDF), its uses, and its effectiveness. Oral education should be conducted to create awareness among people.

Dental caries, following a brief decline in the 20th century, has become rampant again in recent times. This has led to decline in overall health and a poor quality of life. To overcome this, researchers have introduced the medical model for management of the dental caries which views it as a disease rather than a lesion. This concept relies on the use of medicaments rather than on surgical treatment alone. Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF) is one such medicament which has greatly revolutionized the management of this vicious disease especially in children. This review briefly outlines the history, mechanism of action, its indications, contraindications and application of SDF. Key words: caries, prevention, silver, fluoride

SUMMARYThis article describes the clinical protocol of using potassium iodide (KI) to reverse staining caused by silver diamine fluoride (SDF). SDF contains silver, fluoride, and ammonia. It has been used to arrest dental caries mainly in pediatric applications. The major drawback of SDF application is the dark staining of both teeth and restorative materials. Hence, its use on adult dentition is limited. Improving the esthetic outcome by stain reduction would greatly enhance the opportunity for SDF's universal use. This case demonstrates how KI can effectively reverse the staining.

Fluoride has been used for years to prevent dental caries. Tooth brushing reduces bacteria, hence reduces dental caries. Fluoride content in toothpaste helps to prevent dental caries. Dental caries are controlled in children who drink fluoridated water. The most effective way to prevent dental caries by topical fluoride application is through fluoridated toothpaste. The main aim of the study is to know and be aware of the uses of fluoride among adults. An online survey was conducted with a self-structured questionnaire comprising 15 questions related to the use of fluoride. The questionnaire was designed using the online survey platform "google forms". Descriptive analysis was carried out using the statistical software "SPSS software version 20". The results of the survey were represented in the form of pie charts and bar charts. Around 85% of the population know and are aware of the use of fluoride. Awareness of the uses of fluoride is adequate among the adult population. So it is evident from this study that people are aware of the positive and negative impacts due to appropriate or inappropriate levels of fluoride in their daily consumption.

Dental caries is one of the most prevalent diseases across the globe, affecting all age groups. Various public health measures like water fluoridation have been started to control the spread of caries, especially among children. But these intervention methods are inaccessible to people in some parts of the world. Thus, a product called Silver Diamine Fluoride was introduced, which can help arrest carious lesions at an early stage. It is a beneficial aid for caries arrest in both primary and permanent teeth. Also, can be used for arresting root caries. Thus, the objective of this review article is to discuss about silver diamine fluoride and its diverse uses from both clinician and public health point of view.

Covid 19 is considered to be a pandemic virus infection. SARS-Cov-2 causes it. It is a viral infection that is transmitted through aerosol and droplet contamination, cross-infection, etc. Dentists are at a higher risk due to this corona. It has affected daily routines of dentist's life as they are unavailable to run the clinic and attend to patients. Different search engines like PubMed, and Google Scholar was used. The questionnaire consisting of twenty questions was prepared by using online survey google forms and circulated among the participants. SPSS software was used to evaluate the results and data collection. Statistical analysis was done by chi-square test. Later, results were being tabulated. This survey that is taken among dental students, dentists, and random public, it is seen that the majority of them are well aware of this recent pandemic attack. (COVID-19). It is concluded that dentists are affected to a significant extent due to coronavirus as their daily routine is affected severely. This study aims to identify the effect on dentist life on a routine basis due to the pandemic COVID - 19.

Background: The current SARS CoV-2 pandemic has affected the mental health of various sectors of the country while it has also jeopardised the education system. In this background the present study was done to explore the mental health of the nal year medical undergraduate students and their concerns regarding the curriculum. Materials and Methods:An online survey was conducted among the nal year MBBS students in India and psychiatric morbidity was measured by the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale-21. A total of 83 complete responses out of 130 were received and the data was assessed using SPSS software. Results: Out of the 83 study participants, about 34.9% were depressed, about 39.5% and 32.9% were having anxiety and stress, respectively. Sleep disturbances were signicantly associated with depressive symptoms (p value - 0.0001) and those with stress (p value - 0.01) while change in appetite was also signicantly associated with stress (p value - 0.01). Conclusion: The current pandemic has led to growing concerns in the educational sector especially medical education where MBBS students are facing psychological distress along with newer challenges in their academics like distant education as against traditional bedside teaching for acquiring clinical skills.

Though the prevalence and the severity of dental caries is decreased in past few years, still children from low socioeconomical status in many industrialized or developing countries are still suffering from ill-effects of dental caries. The antimicrobial effect of silver compounds has been proven by the 100-year-old application of silver compounds. Silver diamine fluoride (SDF) has been used to arrest dental caries during 1970s in Japan, but it was not exposed much to other parts of the world. Today in many countries a 38% (44,800 ppm fluoride) SDF solution is commonly used to arrest caries and also to reduce hypersensitivity in primary and permanent teeth. Application of SDF to arrest dental caries is non-invasive procedure and is quick and simple to use. Reports of available studies showed that there is no severe pulpal damage after SDF application. However, it has some drawbacks like black discoloration of the carious teeth and an unpleasant metallic taste. But, low cost of SDF and its simplicity in application suggest that it is an appropriate agent for use in community dental health programme. Thus, SDF appears to meet the criteria of both the WHO Millennium Goals and the US Institute of Medicine’s criteria for 21st century medical care, that is, it is a safe, effective, efficient, and equitable caries preventive agent.

Along with the rapid development of Social Networking Sites (SNS), social media, recently, has become a lifestyle for many people around the world, including in Indonesia. The data in January 2018 showed that in Indonesia out of 132.7 million internet users, almost all (131 million), or up 23% from the data in 2017, were Facebook users with the dominance of 18-24 years old, 35% of whom were the highest active users. The rapid growth of Facebook users annually in Indonesia, especially in the age of students and college students, encourages researchers to conduct many empirical studies of Facebook use among students. There is a tendency for using Facebook continuously to create FAD effects (Facebook Addiction Disorder) among students and can affect the spirit of learning. This study also discusses what is the motivation for using Facebook and seeing the potential for FAD to occur. In this study, an online survey over 375 respondents from several students in Labuhanbatu District was conducted. To explore respondents' motives in using Facebook, respondents were given questions that were divided into the following five motives: social interaction, leisure time, entertainment, friends, and communication. While to look for potential addiction, respondents were given questions using the Bergen Facebook Addiction (BFAD) scale. In getting a connection between the motives for using Facebook and Facebook Addiction, the data was tested by analysis of variants (ANOVA) and partial tests using SPSS software. The results obtained were 65.8% of participants were at a moderate level, while 20.3% were at a low level, and only 13.9% of participants were at a high level. While the most significant motive affecting respondents in using Facebook is the motive to fill the time and motives for communicating.

Abstract The oral microbiota is the direct precursor of dental caries and periodontitis, which are the most common microbial-induced diseases worldwide. The distinct microenvironment at the oral barrier breeds unique microbial communities, which are regulated by host factors (inflammation or dietary sugars)1. Increasing evidence indicates that dysbiosis of oral microbial communities is associated with many human diseases2-5. Our studies demonstrated that human disease could induce different alterations in salivary protein glycopatterns6. However, the relationship between salivary protein glycopatterns and oral microbial communities is unknown. Here, we report that altered salivary protein glycopatterns, namely, fucosylated or sialylated structures induced by gastric cancer (GC) or type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), respectively, are also drivers of dysbiosis of oral microbial communities and ultimately dental caries and periodontitis. The fucosylated neoglycoproteins and sialic acid (SA) α2-3 galactose (Gal) structure can inhibit the growth or/and adhesion of Aggregatibacter segnis and Candida albicans from the oral cavity of patients with GC and T2DM, respectively. These findings provide a novel theory that dynamic communities of oral microbiota are regulated naturally by host salivary protein glycopatterns, having important implications for developing new carbohydrate drugs for oral and body health.
