The purpose of the study was to carry out a comparative assessment of the parameters of the quality of life in patients with pemphigus vulgaris according to the results of the analysis of the SF-36V2 questionnaires and the dermatological index of the quality of life against the background of glucocorticosteroid therapy. Materials and methods. The results of the study are based on the data of a comprehensive study and further follow-up of 47 patients with pemphigus vulgaris (of which 30 are the main group and 17 are the comparison group) who were hospitalized at the Zaporizhzhya Regional Skin and Venereal Clinical Dispensary, Zaporizhzhia. At the time of observation, the majority of patients were aged 61-70 years old. As a control group, 20 apparently healthy people were examined, randomized by age and sex. Results and discussion. Pemphigus vulgaris is a severe systemic dermatosis, which, according to the literature, accounts for about 1% in the structure of dermatological pathology, the main pathomorphological sign of which is acantholysis. Although the share of pemphigus vulgaris in the structure of dermatological pathology is 0.6 per 100 thousand people per year, the severity of the disease and its outcome determine the relevance of further study of the pathogenesis of dermatosis and the search for new effective therapies. The etiology of true pemphigus still remains unclear. The obtained results of questioning the patients with the SF-36V2 questionnaires and the dermatological index of quality of life indicate a significant negative impact of pemphigus vulgaris on the key parameters of the quality of life of patients in the main group and in the comparison group before treatment – the ability to perform their daily duties, work or study, have personal relationships, and also on the desire to be treated and adhere to all the rules of the therapy. Patients with pemphigus vulgaris in the group of monotherapy with glucocorticosteroids had statistically worse indicators of the quality of life after treatment than patients with additional use of Armadin, which was characterized by a low level of physical activity, an increase in the role of physical and psychoemotional problems in everyday life, general discomfort and subjective health. Conclusion. Evaluation of the quality of life of patients allowed for a more qualified study of the health disorders of patients with pemphigus vulgaris, to see the essence of the clinical problem, to select the most optimal treatment regimen for each patient, and also to assess the expected results in terms of parameters that are on the verge of a scientific approach and evidence-based medicine on the one hand, and also the subjective point of view of patients with pemphigus vulgaris on the other hand

Relevance. The relevance of the study is dictated by the high prevalence of periodontal disease among young people and by the need to search for new approaches to periodontitis treatment in order to increase the effectiveness of treatment at early stages of pathological process. Objective. To evaluate the effectiveness of complex treatment of chronic generalized periodontitis (CGP) of mild severity using a removable splinting construction made according to the author's technique. Materials and methods. At the orthopedic stage of the complex treatment of mild CGP, splinting constructions were used for 47 young patients: in the main group (n = 16) the authors treatment and preventive splint, in the first comparison group (n = 15) a removable metal splint, in the second comparison group (n = 16) a fixed adhesive fiber splint. Periodontal hemodynamics was assessed using ultrasound Doppler analysis 1, 6 and 12 months after the therapeutic measures and tooth immobilization. To identify the possible negative impact of the treatment on the quality of life (QOL) in patients with splint constructions, we used the OHIP-14-Ru questionnaire; the follow-up period was 1.3, 6, and 12 months. Results. Dental immobilization contributed to the improvement of blood flow in the periodontal tissues in the short and long term follow-up, so after 12 months: Vam in the main group increased by 39,8 % and amounted to 0,397 0,004 cm / s, in patients of the comparison groups Vam was 0,329 0,006 cm / s and 0,335 0,003 cm / s, respectively, that is 15,4 % and 18,4 % higher compared with the figures before treatment. The quality of life index for patients using splinting constructions made according to the author's technique, by the OHIP-14-Ru questionnaire was assessed as good 1 year after (3.46 0.59). Conclusions. The use of the proposed original orthopedic design in a complex plan for mild periodontitis treatment helps to improve regional blood circulation and stabilize the pathological process.

Aim. Comparative clinical study of hygienic dental product of plant origin based -mangostin [1,3,6-Trihydroxy-7-methoxy-2,8-bis(3-methyl-2-butenyl)-9H-xanthen-9-one], a xanthone from mangosteen fruit, having antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory activity in the treatment of chronic generalized catarrhal gingivitis. Methods. The study included 319 patients aged 22 to 45 years. All patients were divided into two groups: the control group 20 people (males 40%, females 60%), average age 34.88.00 years; the comparison group 20 people (males 45%, females 55%), average age 35.07.10 year; the main group 20 people (males 40%, females 60%), average age 34.97.86 years. There were no statistically significant differences between all groups (p 0.05). The nosological form of the disease in the studied patients is chronic generalized catarrhal gingivitis (K05.1). Treatment in all groups was carried out using the standard regimen of complex therapy of chronic generalized catarrhal gingivitis. Therapy of the main group patients was supplemented by the use of the hygienic gel containing 1% -mangostin [1,3,6-Trihydroxy-7-methoxy-2,8-bis(3-methyl-2-butenyl)-9H-xanthen-9-one], whereas treatment of the comparison group patients was supplemented by the complex preparation containing 1% metronidazole and 0.25% chlorhexidine digluconate. The dental examination included a questionnaire with the registration of subjective data (patient complaints) and objective data on the state of the tissues of the mouth (index score) before and after therapy, as well as the dynamics of the indicators fixing during the entire treatment. Results. The performing a comparative study of the treatment effectiveness of chronic generalized catarrhal gingivitis, using a dental hygienic gel containing 1% -mangostin [1,3,6-Trihydroxy-7-methoxy-2,8-bis(3-methyl-2-butenyl)-9H-xanthen-9-one] as a part of complex therapy in comparison with the standard complex treatment regimen supplemented by dental product containing 1% metronidazole and 0.25% chlorhexidine digluconate, showed a marked improvement in subjective quality of life of patients. Pain during individual oral hygiene and food intake (decrease to 0%, p1 0.05, p2 0.05), a feeling of bursting in the gum (decrease to 0%, p1 0.05, p2 0.05), bad breath (decrease to 0%, p1 0.05, p2 0.05) and bleeding gums (decrease to 0%, p1 0.05, p2 0.05) were completely eliminated. Compared to the control group, OHI-S index of the main group decreased by 79% (from 1.9 to 0.4, p1 0.001, p2 0.001), PI index decreased by 80.6% (from 3.1 to 0.6, p1 0.001, p2 0.001) and SBI index decreased by 100% (from 3 to 0, p1 0.001, p2 0.001). During the course of treatment of patients with chronic generalized catarrhal gingivitis, a decrease in the average values of the PMA index was observed. In the group of patients using hygienic gel as a supplement to treatment, the decrease in this index was 85% (from 651.53 to 100.82%; p1 0.001, p2 0.05), and when using a complex drug containing 1% metronidazole and 0.25% chlorhexidine digluconate, the value of the PMA index decreased by 51% (from 611.17 to 301.4%; p1 0.001), in the control group, the index value decreased by 28% (from 671.67 to 481.26%; p1 0.001). Conclusion. In assessing of the subjective quality of life and index indicators of the periodontal status in the treatment of chronic generalized catarrhal gingivitis, the best results were observed in the group using a dental hygiene gel based on -mangostin [1,3,6-Trihydroxy-7-methoxy-2,8-bis(3-methyl-2-butenyl)-9H-xanthen-9-one], a xanthone from mangosteen fruit, compared with the control group and the group using a complex drug (1% metronidazole and 0.25% chlorhexidine digluconate).

Satisfaction with quality of life and self-attitude in patients operated by «traditional» (conventional surgical methods) and endoscopically assisted methods are considered in the article. Differences in the quality of life in patients, self-attitude to ones appearance are described. 65 patients were surgically operated and examined. Control group – patients operated by «traditional» techniques (35 patients), the average age of patients was 38 ± 11,1 years. The comparison group – patients operated using endoscopically assisted methods (30 patients), the average age of patients was 44 ± 17,7 years. Psychodiagnostic methods: 1. N. E. Vodopyanova`s scale of life quality; 2. The Short Form-36; 3. S.R. Panteleev`s Assessment of self-relationship. Complaints of paresthesia and pain experienced by patients who underwent a “traditional” operation were revealed as a result of the examination. Operated on with an endoscopically assisted method patients did not present any complaints. Differences between the assessment of the life quality and self-relationship in examined groups were found. Operated on with an endoscopically assisted method patients evaluated life quality, satisfaction with their appearance and physical condition higher than patients operated on with a “traditional” method.

Purpose of the study. To determine the effect of nutritional deficiency and nutritional therapy on the quality of life of patients with gastric cancer at the stage of surgical treatment. Patients and methods. In Thoracoabdominal Department of P. Herzen Moscow Oncology Research Institute within 2017– 2019 the quality of life at the stage of surgical treatment of gastric malignant neoplasms was evaluated in 62 patients (36 men and 26 women) aged 34 to 79 years (mean age 61.9 ± 9.55). At the outpatient stage, patients were divided into 2 groups: in the 1st (main) group, patients received nutritive support with specialized mixtures for 10 days before hospitalization, in the 2nd (control) group, patients were asked to follow a high-protein diet without adding specialized mixtures. The quality of life assessment was carried out on the basis of the EORTC-QLQ-C30 Questionnaire, which patients received on the day of hospitalization. Patients repeatedly filled in EORTC-QLQ-C30 Questionnaire before discharge from the hospital, which allowed to assess the dynamics of the quality of life indicators of the studied patients. The study groups were comparable in social and medical indicators. Results. The analysis of the survey results showed that the “general state of health” in the studied groups at the stage of hospitalization is estimated bove average. Also, in both groups there is a positive dynamics in the values of the above indicator before discharge. Patients of the 1st group who received specialized nutritional mixtures, developed the statistical significance of the differences in the assessment of the quality of life upon admission and before discharge. Thus, it can be argued that nutritional therapy had a significant positive impact on the quality of life in terms of “general health”, in contrast to the control group of patients who did not receive specialized nutritional therapy. There was a general tendency toward an increase in the quality of life indicators at admission and before discharge on all scores of the questionnaire in groups. Thisis a positive assessment by patients of their condition after providing them with medical services. In this case, the discomfort from the symptoms accompanying the disease is reduced, which is confirmed by the scoring results. Statistically significant differences in the assessment of symptoms occur in the study group. Patients having received nutritional therapy noted a decrease in pain, an improvement in the processes of assimilation of food, as well as an improvement in well-being, physical condition, an increase in general tone and energy, a surge of strength and a sense of vitality. In “decreased appetite”score the indices of patients in the main group decreased by more than 3 times, i. e. their appetite improved significantly under treatment. Improving appetite in patients of the main group led to an improvement in the functioning of the gastrointestinal tract as a whole. Patients in this group noted an improvement in digestion and bowel movements. Conclusion The study showed that the quality of life of patients with gastric cancer largely depends on their nutritional deficiency, and nutritional therapy at the stages of surgical treatment, in turn, can significantly improve its results, including in the aspect of their perception by patients. Using the general EORTC QLQ-C30 questionnaire is one of the available methods for assessing the quality of life in patients with gastric cancer.

Introduction. Urethral transposition remains the most popular operation for postcoital cystitis, however, traumatism and complications, especially such as pudendal neuropathies, dyspareunia and anorgasmia, make us continue to search for effective, but safer techniques. The study objective is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of the proposed treatment of postcoital cystitis, including removal of urethrogymenal adhesions and subsequent paraurethral filler implantation, in comparison with isolated hymenoplasty.Materials and methods. Since 2013, 75 patients with postcoital cystitis have been treated. Patients were divided into two groups: main group – hymenoplasty (removal of urethral adhesions) with paraurethral filler implantation (n = 45), control group – hymenoplasty (n = 30). The gel was injected paraurethrically, fan-shaped, in the volume of 1–2 ml, from a point on the 6-hour conditional dial, creating a gel cushion and thus raising the meautus and distal urethra. To assess the quality of treatment, profile questionnaires were used.Results. In the main group of patient, the quality of life improved in 35 (78 %); in 5 patients, due to the process of biodegradation of the gel during 1 year, the cystitis recidivated, which required the filler reimplantation. In 5 patients, the operation was not effective. In the control group the efficiency of isolated hymenoplasty was noted in 3 (10 %) patients, relapse of cystitis occurred in 27 (90 %) patients, which later required the implantation of a filler. No complications were observed.Conclusions. The suggested combined technique allows to improve the results of treatment of patients with postcoital cystitis. The operation does not carry the risk of damage to the sprigs of the genital nerve, can serve as an alternative to traditional urethral transposition. The main disadvantage is the natural biodegradation of the gel, which may create the need for its reintroduction.

IntroductionIntervention with informal caregivers (IC) of psychiatric patients is internationally recognized as relevant and a priority. However, the existing responses in this area are still insufficient, especially regarding caregivers of individuals with mood disorders (MD). Mindfulness and compassion focused therapy have proven to be an effective approach in stress reduction and in improving emotional and social well-being of caregivers of patients with other conditions. However, no studies testing these new approaches in IC of patients with MD have been carried out. The objective of this work is to present a research project that aims to develop, implement and empirically test the effectiveness of an innovative group program to help informal caregivers of individuals with mood disorders to cope with the negative impact of the disease and reduce caregiver burdens.MethodsThe design of this experimental study to test the program's efficacy is a non-randomised controlled trial (nrct) with 12 months follow-up, with a mixed assessment methodology (quantitative and qualitative analysis). A sample of 60 informal caregivers of individuals with chronic MD will be constituted (n = 30 Control group; n= 30 Experimental group).ResultsWe expect the program to promote significant changes in participants in terms of several emotional variables (eg: burden, stress, resilience, compassion and quality of life).ConclusionsFurther efforts to continue studying the impact of interventions in caregivers should be carried out, as a way to improve the quality of life of caregivers and their ability to provide informal care to MD patients.Disclosure of interestThe authors have not supplied their declaration of competing interest.

IntroductionSelf-stigma is a maladaptive psychosocial phenomenon that can disturb self-image and quality of life in psychiatric outpatients and may lead to dysphoria, social isolation and reduced adherence to treatment.ObjectivesSelf-stigma and QoL could be reflected as important factors for patients, who suffer from schizophrenia spectrum disorders, their caregivers and mental health specialists. Focus on reducing the self-stigma in supportive and educational therapy could be an important factor in promoting a higher QoL.AimsCurrent research moved attention to the relationship between demographic data, the severity of symptoms, self-stigma and quality of life in schizophrenic outpatients compared to the QoL in healthy controls.MethodsPatients who met ICD-10 criteria for schizophrenia spectrum disorder were recruited in the study. The Quality of Life Satisfaction and Enjoyment questionnaire (Q-LES-Q), Internalized Stigma of Mental Illness (ISMI) and severity of the disorder measured by objective and subjective Clinical Global Impression severity scales (CGI) were assessed.ResultsOne hundred and nine psychotic patients and 91 healthy controls participated in the study. Compared to the control group, there was a lower QoL and a higher score of self-stigma in psychotic patients. We found the correlation between the self-stigma, duration of disorder and QoL. The level of self-stigma correlated positively with total symptom severity score and negatively with the QoL. Stepwise regression analysis revealed that the objective severity and self-stigma score were significantly associated with the quality of life (Figure 2 and 3, Fig. 1).ConclusionsOur study suggests a negative impact of self-stigma level on the quality of life in patients suffering from schizophrenia spectrum disorders.Disclosure of interestThe authors have not supplied their declaration of competing interest.

The rapid progress of obesity surgery dictates the necessity to study the quality of life of patients after bariatric procedures. The aim of the study is to assess the dynamics of quality of life of patients with morbid obesity after biliopancreatic diversion in the modification of Hess-Marceau and the sleeve gastrectomy in order to improve the results of surgical treatment of the specified category of patients. The results of surgical treatment of 205 patients with morbid obesity who performed sleeve gastrectomy (main group — 105 patients) or biliopancreatic diversion by Hess-Marceau (comparison group — 100 patients) were analyzed. The study of the dynamics of quality of life of patients was performed in according the Moorehead-Ardelt II method. Statistical data processing was performed using the methods of variational and descriptive statistic using Statistica 6.0 statistical analysis package. Installed that biliopancreatic diversion by Hess-Marceau and sleeve gastrectomy allowed to significantly improve the quality of life of patients with an increase of the quality of life index with -1.5±0.7 in the comparison group and -1.6±0,6 in the main group up to 1.8±0.3 and 2.0±0.4 respectively (p<0.05 compared to pre-operative data) 60 months after surgery. A more pronounced positive dynamics of quality of life in patients of the main group in the time interval of 12–24 months after the operation was achieved due to the absence of severe late metabolic complications and undesirable side effects of biliopancreatic diversion and laparoscopic access for sleeve gastrectomy in 54.3% of patients. Thus, the quality of life of patients with morbid obesity before performing bariatric surgery is critically low and significantly improved after biliopancreatic diversion by Hess-Marceau as well as sleeve gastrectomy. The impact of bariatric surgery on the duration and quality of life of patients requires further multicenter randomized trials.

The article deals with the problem of overweight women and the measures that can influence it. The actual problem of reducing the quality of life of overweight women and the need to take this indicator into consideration when selecting the measures of physical therapy and assessing the quality of their use are raised. The results of the study of changes in quality of life after using of programs of physical therapy for the correction of excess weight are presented. The quality of life of young overweight women was evaluated using the SF-36 survey (physical and mental health). Experimental sample size: 10 females in the main group and 10 females in the control group. Weight loss program and improving the quality of life of young women through physical therapy lasted for 6 months. Programs of physical therapy in the main group was included elements of different directions of aerobics (classical aerobics, power aerobics, aerobics using different tools, aerobics with psycho-regulatory orientation) and nutrition correction. Programs of physical therapy in the control group was also included nutrition correction and fitness workouts with the use of simulators with a focus on strength and cycling. According to recent estimates, at least one in three adults in the world is overweight and almost one in 10 is obese. Being overweight is not only an aesthetic problem, it is a health threat that entails a number of illnesses and complications, reducing the quality of life. Not everyone knows that the risk of health problems manifests itself even with a slight overweight, and increases as you gain weight. For greater results in overweight correction, it is best to use aerobic and anaerobic fitness programs. A comprehensive physical therapy program has significantly improved the health of young women and has had a positive effect on physical and mental health. We have reason to believe that the overweight correction technique of the main group has proven to be more effective in improving the quality of life of women than the control group program.

Introduction: Psoriasis is a chronic skin disease characterized by scaly patches affecting approximately 2-5% of the population. The disease has a negative impact on quality of life and, therefore, psoriatic patients often develop depression. Our work deals with quality of life and depression in psoriasis sufferrers and strives to determine the correlation between their quality of life and depression. Methods: The research took place in the University Hospital Olomouc in 2017 and used questionnaires WHOQOL-BREF and BDI-II. 50 patients with psoriasis were chosen randomly. To process the data we used Mann-Whitney test (the level of significance = 5%) and Spearman´s correlation coefficient (the level of significance = 1%). Results: The results proved that psoriasis has a significant impact on quality of life. The scores for the overall life quality as well as for individual domains were significantly lower in psoriatic patients than in the control group (p<0.001). The degree of depression in patients with psoriasis showed statistically significant correlation in all domains of the quality of life. We proved negative correlation in the overall quality of life (rs =- 0.691**), physical condition (rs =-0.499**), social relations (rs =-0.546**), overall health (rs =-0.396**), and environment (rs =-0.386**). Conclusion: With regard to the ascertained negative correlation between psoriasis and depression and lower quality of life of the sufferers compared to the healthy population, it is essential for healthcare professionals to pay attention not only to somatic manifestations of the disease but also to the patients´ mental health.
