The main purpose of this study was to investigate the practices and challenges of continuous assessment in colleges of teachers’ education in western Oromia region. For this study, the researchers selected three colleges of teachers education purposely based on the job experience. The researchers selected Nekemte, Dembi Dollo and Shambo colleges teachers education from well, medium, lower experienced respectively. A descriptive survey design involving both qualitative and quantitative approaches was employed. 134 student-teachers and 178 college teachers were selected and participated in the study. The quantitative data was collected through a questionnaire and observation checklist and analyzed using frequency and percentage, whereas, the qualitative data interview and document analysis were analyzed using the narrative form and interpretative way. The finding of the study revealed that the extent of practicing continuous assessment in class is low. The study also showed that teachers have positive perceptions toward continuous assessment and they accepted continuous assessment as important to improve the achievement of learners. The finding disclosed that large class size, shortage of time, teachers workload, the low interest of students, large instructional content, and lack of commitment among teachers as the major factors hindering the practice of continuous assessment in colleges of teachers education. The researchers recommend that educational authorities and stockholders should make effort to students per class to manageable numbers, College administrators should allow teachers to cover the minimum workload than overloading above the standard set for the college of teachers education.

Women face multi-faceted challenges in participating in management position due to different factors. The purpose of this study is to investigate factors that affect participation of women in leadership positions in Bahir dar city administration. To address this objective, the study adopted mixed research methods with descriptive survey design. A total of 190 women public civil servants were taken as a sample. Moreover, a key informant interview with women in leadership positions was conducted. In addition, FGD were also a very important data-gathering instrument for this study. The findings revealed that there are three major factors for women's low participation in leadership positions, i.e. institutional, socio-cultural and individual factors. Those factors have decisive contributions for low participation of women in leadership positions. With proper implementation of women's policies in the organization, equal treatment during assignment leadership positions, and creating awareness in society that woman are capable for leadership positions.

Purpose: This study evaluated the effectiveness of teacher-centered method of teaching Christian Religious Education in instilling respect among students in public secondary schools in Rachuonyo North Sub-County, Kenya. Methodology: The study was guided by the Bandura’s social learning theory. A descriptive survey design was adopted. The study population comprised 50 CRE teachers and 1,615 Form Four students taking CRE in 49 public secondary schools. Simple random sampling technique was used to select 15 teachers, and 485 Form Four students from the accessible population. Face to face interviews were conducted to collect data from teachers while questionnaires were administered to collect data from students. Quantitative data from questionnaire were analyzed with the aid of Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) Version 20.0 using descriptive statistics as well as inferential statistics and presented in tabular form. Data from interviews was analyzed qualitatively and presentation was done in narrative form. Findings: Majority of the interviewed students were male and were in the age category of 17-21 years of age while nearly two thirds of the interviewed teachers were males with different levels of education ranging from bachelors to PhD. Majority of the students reported that the use of school assignments, lectures, homework, game based approach, mental modeling approach, classroom instructions, and role play enhanced acquisition of virtue of respect. The Pearson’s product moment correlation coefficient showed that there existed a positive, strong and statistically significant association between teacher-centered methods and instilling virtue of respect in students (r = 0.876; p < 0.05). Contribution to theory, practice and policy: The study concludes that strategic use of classroom approach through assignments, homework, and talk’s is essential in acquisition of virtue of respect among students. Furthermore, teacher-centered methods play critical roles in instilling the virtue of respect among students. Therefore, teachers should be assisted to acquire competence in correct C.R.E syllabus interpretation in order to enable them to adapt varied methods of teaching, policies should ensure systematic implementation of inclusive teaching methods for every student and creation of knowledge on teacher centered teaching methods.

This article reports on the findings of a study undertaken to establish practices and challenges to academic publishing at a higher education institution in Ethiopia. A descriptive survey design was employed and con- -venience and purposive sampling were used to select the sample. The data were gathered by means of a questionnaire with closed- and open-ended questions and were analysed using descriptive and thematic analysis. The results show that, despite the benefits of publishing, not all academics in the university are publishing in local and international journals due to a number of challenges. These include a lack of commitment and motivation, lack of experience and exposure to publishing, and inadequate information,knowledge and skills to access accredited journals. Academics also suffer from work overload, a lack of support from the university to publish, and challenges emanating from journals themselves. It is recommended thatthe university, the Ethiopian Ministry of Science and Higher Education and other relevant stakeholders should collaborate to address this situation. This paper examined the factors that are likely to cause the discard of custom-made garments among female students of the University of Cape Coast. The descriptive survey design was used for the study and the total number of participants was 246.  The Predictive Analytical Software was employed for data analyses. The data gathered were analysed using inferential statistics and descriptive statistics such as frequencies and percentages. The study revealed that constructional factors form a higher percentage of the factors that lead respondents to discard their custom-made garments. The major factors that resulted in the discard of custom-made garments among the respondents were poorly stitched garments, poor fit, uncomfortable lining issues, and poor conditions of notions. Slit and Kaba (traditional dress for women in Ghana, the slit is an ankle length skirt and the kaba is a blouse) was the most frequently discarded custom-made garments among the respondents. It was recommended that in decreasing the rate of discard of custom-made garments, dressmakers should select appropriate stitches and notions for garment construction. They should ensure quality in the products they produce and check the fit of the garments properly before handing them over to clients to meet their expectations.

The study, tried to find out students’ role and perception in implementing one to five team work, examine to what extent school directors facilitate safe environment for the implementation of one to five teamwork and identify the major factors that might hamper the impleentation of one to five teamwork. In order to meet the research goal, descriptive survey design was employed, which involves both methods. In this study, 100 students participated in the research. Thus, descriptive statistics using frequencies and percentages were employed in analyzing the quantitative data and the qualitative data were analyzed qualitatively. The results of the study revealed that students perceived one to five education army development group works positively. However, the followings were found to be the main constraint encountered during one to five team work activities on the findings, it was concluded that one to five teamwork was not properly implemented by the majority of students as it was expected.

In Ghana, the integration of technology into the teaching and learning process seems to be making strides in tertiary education. However, the case is not the same in Senior High Schools. This study, therefore, sought to assess Senior High School Geography teachers' knowledge in integrating technology into their classroom adapting the Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) model as a framework for analysis. The study adopted the descriptive survey design to provide a comprehensive analysis of the research problem. Through a survey, a total of 113 geography teachers participated in the study, responding to a TPACK survey questionnaire. The data were analysed using mean and standard deviation. The findings of the study showed that teachers possessed a high level of content and pedagogical knowledge in geography. The analysis, however, showed that teachers were not as confident as they were in content and pedagogy compared to technological knowledge and its subsequent integration into the teaching and learning of geography. It was, therefore, recommended among others that courses at the higher education level should integrate Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) into teaching and learning to help student-teachers appreciate the place of specific technologies, hardware and software in the teaching and learning of their respective disciplines.

AbstractFactors related with parental involvement on their childrens education continues to be a pertinent issue. Some school going children in Kenya post detrimental results amid claims that parents are not supportive. This study sought to establish influence of Parental Level of Education on Pre-PrimaryLearners performance in curriculum activities in Nandi County, Kenya. Epsteins Theory and descriptive survey design was used for the study. Purposive sampling technique, stratified random technique and simple random technique were used to select the sample of the study. The sample for the study was 50 head teachers 100 teachers and 100 parents in pre-Primary schools from a population of 500 head teachers, 1000 teachers and 10000 parents. Questionnaire, interview guides and focused group discussions were used to collect data. A pilot study was conducted in two schools to determine the validity and reliability of instruments. Both content and face validity were ensured while split half technique was used to determine the instrument’s reliability. Quantitative data was analyzed using descriptive such as frequencies and percentages and presented in form of tables while inferential statistics used simple linear regression. Qualitative data was analyzed and presented in narrative form.

Since the advent of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), teaching and learning have somewhat taken a paradigm shift. It is, thus, imperative for teachers in all disciplines to appreciate the essence of integrating ICTs in teaching and learning. In this regard, this study sought to explore Basic School Ghanaian Language teachers’ perceptions of ICT integration in Ghanaian language teaching. The study employed a descriptive survey design. Stratified random sampling was used to obtain data from 205 teachers in the Bono, Bono East and Ahafo region of Ghana. Analysis of data collected through a self-developed questionnaire reveals that Ghanaian language teachers exhibit a positive perception of ICT integration in education. However, in practice, they tend to integrate ICT in their instruction on occasional basis. Also, it was revealed that a lack of financial support for ICT resources and lack of in-service training on ICT use were factors that militated against ICT integration in Ghanaian language teaching. Finally, the study revealed a statistically significant difference between degree holders and diploma holders’ perception of ICT integration in teaching and learning Ghanaian language.

This study seeks to look at the relationships among teachers’ academic qualification, availability of quality resources and the performance of students in Mathematics, English and Integrated science of Basic Schools at Kwahu-East in the Eastern Region of Ghana. The authors used a descriptive survey design which adopted the questionnaire, interview and observation in the collection of data. The authors used stratified random sampling in selecting 180 teachers whereas purposive sampling was used in selecting 27 headteachers and District Education Officers which used the Pearson correlation in the analysis. The study revealed that a teacher’s academic qualification obtained through education had no significant relationship with student’s academic performance in the respective subjects being measured by this study. The authors recommend that the Government of Ghana concentrate on providing continuing professional development (CPD) programmes that concentrate on practical situations in the schools and channel more resources to schools.
