This study aimed to examine the effect of body image and self-esteem on selfie addiction among fresh female students at Ahfad University(Sudan), as well as to investigate the correlation between body image and self-esteem. To achieve those objectives, the researcher adopted the descriptive research method. The sample included (400) female students whose average age was (22.5) years, selected by using a simple random sample. The study was conducted by administering three scales. The results of the study indicated that (50%) of the sample suffered from the selfie addiction between moderate to severe levels. There was a significant correlation between selfie addiction, self-esteem and body image. Moreover, it was found that both body image and self-esteem had a predictive ability to increase likelihood of selfie addiction among females. The study recommended that professionals should consider preparing prevention programs for those who have traits of a selfie addiction behavior.

Background: Perception and judgment against one’s own body is called body image. Limited studies have been performed on body image of the population living in boarding schools who has relatively homogeneous environmental characteristics and restricted access towards communication media. Objective: To determine the correlation between individual factors and environmental factors with body image of female students at religious boarding school. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in 142 female students aged 15-19 years old in Islamic Centre Bin Baz (ICBB) boarding school Bantul. Individual factors included nutritional status, nutritional knowledge, and self-esteem, respectively measured by using BMI/age that interpreted using manual from Ministry of Health 2010, multiple choice questionnaire, and Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSE). Environmental factors encompassed culture, social economic status, and social support, respectively measured by using check lists of parent’s ethnics, social economic status questionnaire, Social Support Questionnaire Number (SSQN) and Social Support Questionnaire Satisfaction (SSQS). Body image was measured using CDRS (The Contour Drawing Rating Scale) form. All variables were tested using chi square test and logistic regression. Results: Individual factors that had significant correlations with body image were nutritional status (p<0.05; RP=1.3; 95%CI=2.68-2.83) and self-esteem (p<0.05; OR=21.3; 95%CI=3.97-114.3). Meanwhile, for environmental factors, they were social economic status (p<0.05) and social support satisfaction (p<0.05; 95%CI=0.02-0.95).Conclusion: Individual and environmental factors have correlation with body image of female students at religious boarding school.

With reference to Pakistan, it has been observed that young female students are reluctant to take part in sports because of social pressures that affect their health in the long run. This research was conducted to examine the effect of self-esteem and body image on sports participation of female athletes mainly with two objectives i.e. to quantify the relationship between self-esteem and body image of sports participation of females and to quantify the impact of self-esteem and body image as motivators for sports participation of females. The purpose of selecting this topic was that both self-esteem and body image can play a major role to motivate females participate in sports. By applying the simple random sampling, a total of 200 female students were selected from four different universities to participate in the study.  These female students belonged to the physical education department of different universities of Lahore, Pakistan. Adapted questionnaires of Rosenberg Self Esteem Scale (1965) and Offer Scale of Body-image (1972) were used to get the opinion of the participants. Results indicated a positively significant relationship between self-esteem and sports participation of female students as the values of the correlation were 0.317. In case of body image, positive significant relationship was observed between body image and sports participation as the value of correlation was 0.442. The research concluded that female students having high level of self-esteem and perfect body image, were more enthusiastic to participate in sports. The findings will help the physical trainers, instructors and teachers to find out the causes from the females who have low self-esteem.

The Draw-A-Person (DAP) test has been the center of a long-lasting debate regarding its validity. This study investigated the DAP indices of height, width (size), and inclusion/omission of details and their relation to body image as measured by a self-report scale (Gray’s body image scale) and manifested by the diet behaviors and body mass index of 55 healthy female students. Although the drawings of the diet group were smaller, there was no significant relationship between figure size and diet behaviors. However, body image as measured by a self-report scale did result in significant differences between groups. Moreover, there was a significant correlation between the size of the figure drawn and body image as measured by a self-report scale (larger figures correlated with better body image). No significant results were found for the omission/inclusion indices of the DAP. These results are discussed in light of previous findings regarding the DAP.
