The model of literary palimpsest originally put forward by G. Genette is of essential value now, giving an insight into the mechanism of realizing transtextual meanings. Figurative use of the notion of “palimpsest” as a hierarchy of texts shining through each other, be it different versions of the same text or texts intersecting in the common narrative space, presents a new perspective on the modern literary process, when under the influence of mass culture a literary text may consist of not only other literary texts but also those of the cinema or even music. Although the conception of palimpsest has been further developed and refined by different scholars, some of its aspects, e.g. the receptive one, have not yet been studied in detail. Indeed, the receptive aspect of palimpsest is worthy of special attention as the literary process now is inseparable from the recognition of the communicative nature of art, therefore without a reader the literary work’s meaning cannot be actualized. Making a case study of the comic fantasy series by the modern English writer Terry Pratchett, the article considers the way palimpsest functions from the receptive point of view and sums up the effects it achieves.

ABSTRACT: Looking at specific populations of knowers reveals that the presumption of sameness within knowledge communities can lead to a number of epistemological oversights. A good example of this is found in the case of survivors of sexual violence. In this paper I argue that this case study offers a new perspective on the debate between the epistemic internalist and externalist by providing us with a fresh insight into the complicated psychological dimensions of belief formation and the implications that this has for an epistemology that demands reasons that are first-person accessible.

Onomatopoeia are words with peculiar phonological features and expressive capacity which distinguish them from other types of words. These traits together with other elements related to their use in each language often pose a challenge for translators of specific language combinations. This article analyses how Chinese onomatopoeia are translated into Spanish, and it is based on a case study of the Spanish version of the Chinese novel Huozhe (活着) (To live). This piece of creative writing has been chosen because the original text contains many onomatopoeia and because the target text can be regarded as a fine example from a translation point of view. The article begins with a brief overview of the main features of these words and their role in literary texts, as well as the general results of the analysis of a corpus of seven contemporary Chinese novels and their translations into Spanish. Subsequently, the study explores the translation of onomatopoeia in the selected work of fiction in order to identify the mechanisms and translation techniques the translator has adopted and the results in the Spanish target text.

<p align="LEFT">The fundamental objective of advertising</p><p align="LEFT">discourse is to persuade target audiences to</p><p align="LEFT">accept and purchase the advertised product,</p><p align="LEFT">thus in essence, persuasiveness is crucial</p><p align="LEFT">characteristic of advertising discourse. Actually,</p><p align="LEFT">successful persuasion usually involves</p><p align="LEFT">argumentativeness. Drawing on the research</p><p align="LEFT">framework of Pragma-Dialectics, this paper</p><p align="LEFT">attempts to explore a pragma-dialectical</p><p align="LEFT">approach to advertisement discourse on the</p><p align="LEFT">basis of the ideal model of critical discussion.</p><p align="LEFT">This approach involves two interrelated parts:</p><p align="LEFT">argumentative reconstruction and strategic</p><p align="LEFT">maneuvering analysis. Taking the case of</p><p align="LEFT">Melatonin advertisements, the pragma-dialectical</p><p align="LEFT">approach can show the argumentativeness of</p><p align="LEFT">advertisement discourse to a great extent and</p><p align="LEFT">meanwhile reveals advertisers’ manipulation of</p><p align="LEFT">dialectical reasonableness and rhetorical</p><p align="LEFT">effectiveness. Therefore, the pragma-dialectical</p><p align="LEFT">approach can not only give a deep insight into</p><p>persuasiveness and argumentativeness of</p><p align="LEFT">advertising discourse, but also provides a</p><p align="LEFT">theoretical guidance for advertisers to skilfully</p><p align="LEFT">employ dialectical strategies in advertising</p><p align="LEFT">discourse. Consequently, such approach can</p><p align="LEFT">offer a new perspective for comprehensive and</p><p>systematic study of advertisement discourse.</p>

Network-centric sharing of data between all Air Traffic Management (ATM) stakeholders can improve the aviation network substantially. The System Wide Information Management (SWIM) platform is a platform for the open sharing of all information between aircraft operators, airports, air navigation services providers (ANSPs), and meteorology services, but has struggled to find a following. This article aims to identify the potential reasons for the slow adoption of the SWIM platform, and to investigate how to better communicate its potential. To gain insight into the drivers for each of the stakeholders, a series of semi-structured interviews was conducted with airlines, airports and ANSPs. Moreover, an Airport Collaborative Decision Making (A-CDM) initiative at the airport in Dublin was included as a case study. Recommendations are provided on how to address the results from a governance point of view.

This introduction discusses the reputation of King Edward II (1307–1327) in medieval and early modern England, and the implications of this reputation beyond its immediate relevance to scholars of Edward II’s reign and afterlife: as a case study for the history of sex and the changing vocabulary of sexual transgression; as a source of positive depictions of love between men; as a paradigmatic exemplum for discussions of favouritism and deposition, and thereby a case study providing insight into the early modern use of medieval history; as a means of developing our understanding of literary texts such as Marlowe’s Edward II; and as a process that illuminates the literary nature of medieval and early modern historical narratives.

Abstract: The common view of information is rooted in a mathematical tradition which considers information as an object to be exchanged. Many researchers, including analysts working in information sciences, have adopted this vision of information. However, this approach, which we have termed an object-oriented worldview, masks the contextual nature of information and the processes by which human beings make sense of it. In this paper, we propose an alternative, a subject-oriented worldview of information. In this framework, information is considered from the point of view of actors and takes into consideration the contextual and social nature of information. This approach is described and illustrated through a case study examining the productivity of a newly computerized organization. Résumé: La manière habituelle de concevoir l'information est enracinée dans une tradition mathématique qui attribue à l'information le statut d'un objet à échanger. De nombreux chercheurs oeuvrant dans des disciplines telles que les sciences de l'information adhèrent à cette vision, que nous avons appelée "object-oriented worldview". Toutefois, cette perspective omet de considérer la nature contextuelle de l'information et les processus utilisés par l'être humain pour générer du sens à partir de celle-ci. Nous roposons une alternative, le "subject-oriented worldview". Celle-ci met l'accent sur le point de vue du sujet et reconnaît à l'information une valeur contextuelle et sociale. Cette approche sera décrite et appliquée à une étude de cas examinant la productivité d'une organisation nouvellement informatisée.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to propose a novel hybrid approach to assess marketing-based flexibility with respect to its source factors, enablers and attributes. Design/methodology/approach The study demonstrates an application of a hybrid principal component analysis (PCA)-analytical hierarchical process (AHP)-multi-grade fuzzy approach (MFA) to measure marketing-based flexibility. Using PCA method, attributes, enablers and source factors of marketing-based flexibility were identified and a conceptual model was developed. AHP and MFA were used to compute marketing-based flexibility index. Findings The proposed approach measures existing level of marketing-based flexibility and therefore it identifies weak areas that should be taken care to improve flexibility. Research limitations/implications The scope of the study is limited to plant level. The validity of the proposed approach is shown using a case study. For generalisation point of view, the application of this proposed approach should be investigated in a large number of firms in different industrial settings. Practical implications The study gives a reliable and valid method, which combines both statistical and MCDM techniques to measure existing level of flexibility and identify weak areas for flexibility improvement. Originality/value The findings provide insight into factors that should be worked upon to improve flexibility.

Nowadays, our environment surrounded by thousands of images. Images are essential in human communication then, it can be viewed from a verity of form and style. Thereby, this research intended to explore the perspective of fine art photography in documenting the architecture. Masjid Ubaidah, Kuala Kangsar was selected as the case study to implement this new perspective of photograph specifically. This study was conducted using qualitative research where the design process was involved in visual research analysis. The structure observation was carried out to identify the common style used by photographer in producing the images of Masjid Ubaidah, Kuala Kangsar and how the creativity and aesthetic value can be built by injecting the fine art approach. This research found that the potential for fine art approach as a new method in documenting Masjid Ubaidah, Kuala Kangsar by establishing the diversity of creativity in aesthetic discussion.

The recent emergence of social and political movements calling for common sense and the use of the notion of common in philosophy and social sciences has led to the opening of a reflection on the social and scientific representations concerning them. After having mentioned some political uses of the notions of common sense and common, we examine a notion that is closely associated with them: that of community on which S. Moscovici expresses a reserved position but introduces a new perspective on cybercommunities and the importance attached to affectivity in community groups. The ways of dealing with common sense, identified over time, from antiquity to the present day, highlight certain recurrences from a double perspective. From a typological point of view, several characterizations are distinguished: through simple sharing, through the sameness of moral values and emotional dimensions, through rooting in daily experience, through its devaluation as a form of knowledge in relation to science, through rationality, through its potential for revolt or on the contrary through conformity. From a conceptual point of view, common sense is analyzed as an epistemic characteristic of a group, in its content, formation, transmission, and role in social cohesion. The latest developments in the reflection highlight its link with democracy and populism. The term common of recent appearance is situated opposite the notion of common goods which, after having focused on material realities, now integrates the facts and practices of knowledge, being the subject of a specific domain: the commons of knowledge. The common appears as a new way of approaching social relationships and responds to the desire to introduce a relational, ethical and political dimension into the analysis of social and change processes. In this respect, the call to the common presents affinities with the approach of social representations. The examination of the different scientific and secular representations regarding the notions of community, common sense and common makes it possible to establish connections with the perspective of the study of social representations and to open the way for new investigations.
