Speaking skill in English language learning is sometimes difficult for learners. Some students in second semester in IAIN Curup at English study program experienced errors in daily communication. This research tried to disclose what errors that the students did, to what extent the errors occurred. Qualitative approach was considered appropriate in this research because it did not try to generalize the findings but to deepen the case. Observation and open-ended Interview were applied to gather the data. As the instruments, field notes and voice recorder were utilized. The result shows that the students made errors in the four categories namely error in the using of be + adjectives, misplace be present time and past time, missing verbs and error in applying preposition. Errors occurred in the circumstances of choosing sentence verbs time signal and the lack of awareness in placing be for a sentence. Keywords: Speaking errors, grammar, sentence construction

Language is a medium that is used to convey information both orally or in writing from one individual to another individual. In Indonesia we use Indonesian as a national language and unifying language of our nation. However, over time, Indonesian language began to experience a shift in its use and was replaced by English. Language learning can also be obtained through social media namely Instagram. The main purpose of this article is to identify the role of social media Instagram as a strategy to maintain the existence of Indonesian language. The type of this research is descriptive qualitative approach from the account @bahasbahasa_. Based on the research, the data taken from the account @ bahasbahasa_ turns out that Instagram plays a role in improving the existence of Indonesian language. This is evident from some of his submissions which show how the Indonesian language is used properly and correctly. Data is classified based on the type of content sent by the account, namely the use of punctuation, standard words, and affixes. With the existence of this article, the researcher hopes that readers can find out the role of the Instagram in maintaining the existence of the language and using the best instagram for learning.

This research aims to describe the use of code switching in English language learning, in terms of the form of code switching, the kind of code switching, the aim of code switching, the function of code switching and the causal factors of code switching. This study belongs to qualitative research. The subjects of this research were the English teacher and students. Meanwhile, the data were utterances of English teacher and students that contained code switching. The data were collected through observation, recording, note-taking and interview. Classroom activities, particularly in the teaching of English language, were recorded on video tapes and field notes. The data analysis revealed several findings. First, both teacher and students used word form of code switching, phrase form of code switching and sentence form of code switching when they were in the classroom. Second, the English teacher and the student used intern and extern code switching, temporary code switching, situational and metaphorical code switching. Third, the aim of using code switching done by the teacher and students were compensating for language limitation, to explain the material and strategy in teaching learning process. Fourth, the functions of code switching for teachers and student were as clarification, emphasis, repetition, translation, checking for understanding, tool for communication, developing vocabulary and tolerance. Fifth, the factors that caused code switching were to fulfil a need, to express or declare solidarity, to respect the listener and to be more informative.

In the English language learning, the technology is considered as a very important factor, even so, in the public-school context, teacher’s expertise, and knowledge to integrate are vitally important in the classroom. The aim of this study was to demonstrate the inclusion’s incidence of Duolingo platform in a third-grader's class led by a trainee teacher, who was concerned about why children presented several difficulties to assimilate a foreign language, this event motivated him to propose on his lesson plans permanently the inclusion of this platform during the development of his teaching practicum, which was convened with the home teacher, so he decided to investigate the effect of Duolingo’s use with his researcher sight, during its sessions. For the analysis of this study was considered theories from Čok (2016), Loeb, (2018), Ahmed(2016), Vesselinov & Grego (2012), among others, which were perceived Duolingo’s digital support as a facilitator element for the English language learning, it was also vital the teacher’s sight and expertise at the moment of including technology in the class space. For this research, three instruments were applied: Trainee teacher’s field notes, a survey, and a questionnaire, to measure children’s language knowledge knowing different perspectives of this experience, thus, to have arguments to invite the teachers to assume these challenges. Finally, the results let us to know the increase of the English grammar knowledge and vocabulary, after Duolingo’s implementation in the classroom, demonstrating a meaningful academic improvement also behavior changes were noticed and with that, value changes, tending to the education of an integral being, in the scholars.

This research aims to actualize the Tana Toraja district government program as an "English Speaking Area". This research also is subject to improve English communication skills for the young learners in Tana Toraja and produce English Language Learning-Based Open Space (ELLBOS) as a prototype of an English language teaching approach for young learners in the tourism area. The research applied the ADDIE research design consists of three cycles: preparation, implementation, and evaluation. This research found five issues: (1) participant reported that they are enthusiasm in English lessons; (2) the participants need to learn English; (3) the English-speaking skill is essential for students; (4) students revealed that are unhappy in learning English in the classroom; (5) students experienced peaceful learning atmosphere if learning English outside the classroom. This research recommends the significance of applying the English Language Learning-Based Open Space (ELLBOS) for young learners in the tourism area. It is good if the teacher does English learning outside the classroom with open space to feel free to explore their potency in learning English.

The aim of this study is to know wether there is or not significant effect of using YouTube channel to students’ speaking skill. The use of YouTube channel can make easier for students to receive lessons, motivate students in learning, so what is the purpose of education can be achieved well. YouTube encourages positive learning attitude if it is incorporated in classroom teaching to supplement language learning especially speaking. The design of this study is experimental research that was conducted at English language study program of Universitas Islam Riau. The sample consist of 48 students from the first semester. After applying YouTube channel in learning, the results of the study showed a significant improvement. Based on the data of SPSS, the value of sig. (2-tailed) was 0,000 which is not greater than the probability value of 0.05. (0.000 < 0.05). It can be concluded that Ho is rejected and H1 is accepted, means that there is significant effect of using YouTube channel towards students’ speaking skill.

Abstract—Learning a foreign language by using social media at the University level is very important because social media has great potential to support student-centered learning as they are flexible, interactive, and resource–rich in nature. One of its drawbacks is the quality of online instruction that lead to unfavorable perception and perspective of the students. The objectives of this research are to analyze the students’ perceptions and perspectives in using Social Media as a tool in English Language learning. Qualitative and quantitative data were collected from the students of the English Study Program, Faculty of Education, the Islamic University of Riau. Research finding revealed that social media is very practical and useful for getting general information, knowledge and to increase their language competency. <p>This paper highlighted how extremely English language learning that sometimes seemed threatening pupils in the classroom where they were unable to express much attention and confidence. They quantitatively got the worst score for this subject due to several aspects that must be comprehended by students: pronunciation, grammatical structure, vocabulary, and intonation. As long as, students participated in the teaching-learning process, they had standardly done all of the assessment. Therefore, teachers here as the facilitator or counselor should redesign the classroom’s atmosphere and its method; instead, it would invite students to show their best performance. Community Language Learning (CLL) displayed how effectively and efficiently English should be taught. Thus, this research is qualitatively reported to observe how CLL was able to increase the students’ speaking skill in the Material of Remedial Learning for students’ eight grade in SMP Multazam with the total number of 26 students. An observation sheet and the score ranking sheet were as data collection to consider the names. A fluency, a pronunciation, an expression, a vocabulary, and content were the instrument to analysis their performance. This study was Classroom Action Research which revealed that the students are comfortable in joining learning’s experience, and its effects to their competence in speaking skill with the amount of enhancement through 2 cycles; post-test 1 and post-test 2.  CLL was considered to be an effective method since it contributed to the prominent effect of speaking skill.</p>

The mastery of speaking is important in English language learning, even in the period of pandemic, due to the outbreak of COVID 19. Teacher should use interesting method to keep students engage in the teaching and learning process. One of methods in teaching speaking is by using gossiping. The aims of this research is to describe the application of gossiping as one of the techniques in the teaching speaking which focuses on intermediate level students. This research will explain: 1) gossiping and its advantages, 2) topics to be gossiped in speaking English activity, 3) the application of gossiping in teaching speaking. Gossiping as a talk with inspiration and emotion has three major function: a) As a mechanism of information exchange, b) As an entertainment, c) As a portal to brings groups together and d) As a way to be influential. Topics to be gossiped in speaking can be someone famous or popular. The conclusion shows that there is an example of teaching procedure in speaking English using gossiping and it can be a way to keep students engage in the process of teaching speaking, thus it an improve the students mastery in speaking skill.

Abstract—In Pandemic situation students forced to deal with learning in 4.0 era. This era demanding student to be active in learning process. Thus, students’ factor, take control result of teaching learning beyond all kind of learning model that was presented in any research. Intrinsic motivation is one of many factors that can impact on success or failure for a complex challenge. With high motivation students could looking for many ways to get their goals. It is very affected when students have good motivation to study English as a new skill for them. In Indonesia exclusively, English is a foreign language. In a public senior high school mostly English just 4 hours per-weeks and it is less than enough to improve Students English skill, so here motivation take important part to make sure they could find another way to improve their English Skill in the condition that could not support their needs. Therefore, the purpose of this research to investigate how effective intrinsic motivation on English language learning among secondary school students. The data were collected through observational field notes, questionnaire and test of English competency. The researcher expected this research can give overview about students’ language learning process and outcomes.

Learning English as a foreign language, especially in a formal context, leads the students to have their own strategy in order to achieve the objective of learning. The strategy is considered as a helpful way to learn English better. After all, every student has their own strategy in learning. Thus, this study presents an exploration of English language learning strategies used by management and engineering students of Universitas Teknokrat Indonesia (UTI). Subjects of the research were 70 students who take English for Business (EFB) subject majoring management and engineering study program. Data were collected through questionnaire and interview. Data were then analyzed by using descriptive analysis. The result of this study gained a platform of learning strategies used by students. As a result, Management and Engineering students showed almost the same strategy in learning English in a class.
