ABSTRACT The Didactic Strategies applied by the teacher during the development of their classes have proven to be instruments that help the academic improvement of students since they model, regulate, promote and facilitate student learning. Teaching is a complex process that requires teachers to organize their methodology, the materials they will use, in such a way that the contents are easy for students to understand so that there is construction of knowledge. For the preparation of this article, the bibliographic descriptive method has been used, aimed at collecting data for analysis, with a documentary approach. This article describes Cognitive Teaching Strategies that should facilitate and promote a learning environment that enables students to interact with each other to contribute to knowledge, skills, and values. Learning styles need to be considered: visual, auditory, or kinesthetic; in  a way that teachers plan their classes  towards the most relevant learning styles. It is necessary to take into account  that the teacher must have the necessary skills to be able to apply the most appropriate Teaching Strategies according to the students’ needs. Academic performance is the direct result of the application of Didactic Strategies; however, educational quality is not only evidenced by high grades, but also by their quality. At the same time, it is necessary that all Didactic Strategies motivate the student to be autonomous and responsible for their own learning.

In the modern education system, many higher education institutions prefer data mining tools and techniques to analyze the academic improvement of their students. To support that many data mining techniques and tools are available. This paper uses the classification concept to analyze the student’s academic performance. This paper presents the comparison result of five classification algorithms – Decision Tree, Naïve Bayesian, K-Nearest Neighbour, Support Vector Machine and Random Forest which is applied to the data collected from three colleges of Assam, India. The data consists of socio-economic, demographic as well as academic information of three hundred students with twenty-four attributes. The data mining tool used was ORANGE. The internal assessment attribute in the continuous evaluation process makes the highest impact in the final semester results of the students in the dataset. The results showed that Random Forest out performs the other classifiers based on accuracy.

Introduction: Leadership as the second factor in school improvement needs potential leaders to be effective. Method: The present study aimed to know the potential capacity of leaders in Spanish secondary schools through the adaptation of the DLI questionnaire to Spanish. To accurately adapt this questionnaire, the present research group conducted content validity processes in 2017, using the Delphi Method, in which eight experts from the Spanish Network for Research into Leadership and Academic Improvement were invited to participate (RILME). As part of a pilot test, preliminary tools were administered to 547 participants from secondary schools in Granada and Jaén (Spain). Results: The present study reports on the adaptation of the DLI instrument within the Spanish context. Acceptably high values were obtained in the analysis of reliability and internal consistency, suggesting that this item can be reliably utilised for the exploration of the dynamics of internal functioning in secondary education and the evaluation of the distribution of leadership characteristics. Conclusions: The pilot study highlights how heads of studies and department heads are potential leaders, making it easier to set up and sustain educational projects in schools.

This article focuses on the role of access to music education as an agent of social change and as an important way of empowering previously disadvantaged learners, putting this forward as an argument against the proposed downscaling of music in schools as advocated by the government. This narrative inquiry shed light on the perceptions of participating teachers associated with various music programs in the same larger geographical area on the benefits of music education to learners, including instilling discipline and a sense of purpose, general academic improvement, opportunities for social connection, creating opportunities for income generation and future employment, providing role models for children who often came from broken families, and safety and keeping children off the streets, to name but a few. Innovations necessitated by resource allocation constraints are perceived by participating teachers to include sharing a limited number of instruments, teaching in groups, converting general facilities into teaching venues and finding creative ways of teaching theory. The sustainability of these programs is perceived by participating teachers to depend on feeder programs, former students qualifying as teachers, and support and donations from one or more outside sources. It is argued that it is necessary to heed the voices of previously disadvantaged people who are now benefiting from improved access to opportunities and to listen to their opinions about the advantages of music education.
