Uma das características da ação pastoral concreta da Igreja Latino-americana, nas últimas décadas, tem sido o refluxo na relação entre fé e política. Este mesmo refluxo, no entanto, não pode ser observado na reflexão teológica do continente. No intuito de superar um hiato crescente entre o crer e o agir, este artigo analisa as relações entre fé e política na perspectiva das cosmovisões teológica e antropológica do passado para ressaltar sua alta significância para o contexto atual da Igreja. Esta se vê confrontada hoje com uma nova cosmovisão, a “ecológica”. As lições do passado, o agir histórico de Jesus e a nova cosmovisão iluminam os passos a serem dados no presente.Abstract: The concrete pastoral action of the latin-american church, in the last decades, has been characterized by a diminishing of the relationship between faith and politics. The same can not be observed, however, in the theological reflection of the continent. To overcome the growing lap between faith and action, this article analyzes the relations between faith and politics in the theological and anthropological cosmovisions of the past in order to enhance their high significance for the actual context of the church. The church, nowadays, is facing a new “ecological” cosmovision. The lessons of the past, the historical action of Jesus and this new cosmovision illuminate the steps for the present.

We experience around us situations of violence, pain, suffering, and injustice. Some of these experiences often leave individual and/or communal memories hurt in many different ways. The consequence is that when these hurt memories live with us they begin to shape our identity and selfhood from the perspective of wounded persons. Overlooking these experiences or burying them to amnesia can lead to the denial of what we are truly called to be. Remembering well these memories with hope for a better future in the presence of the risen Lord would be a source of healing for both individuals and communities. This essay posits liturgy as the means by which we can re-member the past to the present and so look to the future with hope of healing. This is so because liturgy has the capacity to bring the participants in the ritual to the past event as a present encounter. Through symbols, gestures, words, songs, and materials used in the ritual, in a concrete manner the participants receive what they are ritualizing in reality. In this way liturgy can give a body to memory, say what words cannot master to say, and to hope for what would be hopeless: healing of hurt memories. This is a theological reflection on the relationship between liturgy and healing of hurt memories through the path of forgiveness. It posits that through liturgy, forgiveness can be given a body and so through forgiveness the Church can offer new life in the face of horrifying hurt memories.

ABSTRACTThis essay is an exercise in practical theology, the theological reflection arising out of and in response to the church's actual situation. Practical theology insists that it is not enough to analyze the church's actual situation with deductive, ahistorical theological principles, but that it is necessary, first, to uncover and, then, reflect critically on the actual situation to test it for the presence of the Spirit, relevance, and significance in light of the gospel. Practical theology grows out of the relationship between theoria and praxis which, for the church, is the relationship between faith and praxis. The essay argues that to recognize scientifically the church's actual situation and to perform the required theological reflection practical theology requires sociology.The essay explores, therefore, the relationship between practical theology and the data of sociological research. It also examines the theological realities, sensus fidei and reception, and explores their relationship to that data. The exploration is concretized theologically by a consideration of the sociological data and theology about two Catholic moral doctrines, divorce and remarriage without prior annulment and artificial contraception. A theological reflection on the actual situation of both doctrines and a sociological consideration of the data suggest the conclusion that a dramatic development and re-reception of both doctrines, in line with previous dramatic developments of doctrine in the church, is under way.

Throughout its history, Christianity has stood in a dichotomous relation to the various philosophical movements or eras (pre-modernism, modernism, postmodernism and post-postmodernism) that took on different faces throughout history. In each period, it was the sciences that influenced, to a great extent, the interpretation and understanding of the Bible. Christianity, however, was not immune to influences, specifically those of the Western world. This essay reflects briefly on this dichotomy and the influence of Bultmann’s demythologising of the kerygma during the 20th century. Also, the remythologising (Vanhoozer) of the church’s message as proposed for the 21st century no more satisfies the critical Christian thinkers. The relationship between science and religion is revisited, albeit from a different perspective as established over the past two decades as to how the sciences have been pointed out more and more to complement theology. This article endeavours to evoke the church to consider the fundamental contributions of the sciences and how it is going to incorporate the sciences into its theological training and message to the world.

Bringing together historical and ethnographic materials, this article analyses how members of the Cherubim and Seraphim churches of Nigeria engage with and remember the history of the church through singing hymns, which thus serves as a mode of historical consciousness. In their performance of hymns church members articulate a conception of the relationship between musical practice and spiritual healing in Cherubim and Seraphim worship that draws on a particular conception of the past in order to legitimate certain worship practices. In doing so church members are able to attract God's power and to localise it in a particular space. Because of this hymns continue to be an important spiritual healing practice for church members.

Introducción: La relación entre los flujos migratorios y las religiones es algo muy observado; haciendo un recorrido por la historia de la Iglesia de Jesucristo de los Santos de los Últimos Días en España (SUD) se evidenciará esta relación en el grupo español.Método: Revisión de la literatura de los científicos sociales de la religión que han tratado la relación entre los flujos migratorios y los movimientos religiosos en los últimos años (2005-2016). También se han analizado los datos aportados por el movimiento de los Santos de los Últimos Días en España así como datos del Observatorio de Pluralismo religioso en España.Resultados: Se evidencia cómo la inmigración ha sido un factor determinante para la Iglesia de Jesucristo de los Santos de lo Últimos Días, tanto en sus inicios a nivel mundial así también como determinante en el caso de la permanencia y crecimiento en la sociedad española.Conclusión: El fenómeno migratorio actúa como “salvador” del movimiento de los Santos en España ya que sólo una quinta parte de los bautizados en España son españoles y del idioma es un factor determinante en la procedencia de los miembros extranjeros, ocupando su mayoría la procedencia latinoamericana. Introduction: The relationship between migration and religions is very observed; making a tour of the history of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) in Spain this relationship will be evident in the Spanish group.Method: Review of the literature of social scientists of religion that have addressed the relationship between migration and religious movements in the last years (2005-2016). We have analyzed the data provided by the Latter Day Saint movement in Spain and data from the Observatorio de Pluralismo religioso in Spain. Results: There is evidence of how immigration has been a determining factor for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints him, both in their early world as well as determining level in the case of permanence and growth factor in Spanish society.Conclusion: The migration acts as a "savior" of the movement of the saints in Spain since only one fifth of the baptized in Spain are Spanish and the language is a determining factor in the origin of foreign members, occupying most of Latin American origin.

O presente artigo desenvolve a relação entre fé e compromisso político, com foco na possibilidade de opção partidária por parte dos fiéis católicos, à luz dos critérios antropológicos e sociais da Doutrina Social da Igreja, da contribuição teológica de Ratzinger/Bento XVI e dos documentos do CELAM. Problematiza-se a questão de ser ou não possível, ao católico, optar por determinados partidos ou legendas, em vista da participação pública na tarefa política. Como se trata de uma postura política e crente do sujeito, esta questão é refletida sob luz teológico-social, a partir do evento pascal de Cristo, que na Encarnação assumiu a historicidade humana, inspirando na Igreja a proposição de um humanismo integral. Daqui promanam os valores que a Doutrina Social estabelece: respeito pela dignidade humana, promoção da justiça e da paz, em vista de uma sociedade inclusiva e solidária. Com tais critérios, examinam-se os modelos ideológicos do capitalismo e do comunismo, alertando para eventuais reducionismos, em atenção a um projeto de humanidade inspirado no Evangelho. Como resultado desta abordagem propõe-se um olhar sobre a opção partidária mais dialogal que polarizado, atento à dimensão antropológica da Política e aos critérios da Doutrina Social da Igreja, em vista da condução da vida pública. Abstract: The present article develops the relationship between faith and political commitment, focusing on the possibility of an option for a given party by the Catholic faithful, in the light of the anthropological and social criteria of the Social Doctrine of the Church, of the Ratzinger/Bento xvi’s theological contribution and of the CELAM’s (Latin American Episcopal Council) documents. We question whether it is possible, for the Catholics, to opt for given parties or legends, in view of the need for public participation in the political tasks. Since we are dealing with the subject’s political posture and beliefs, this issue is looked at in a theological social light, starting with Christ’s Pascal event that in the Incarnation adopted the human historicity, inspiring the Church with the proposition of an integral humanism. From this derive the values established by the Social Doctrine: respect for the human dignity, the promotion of justice and peace, having in view an inclusive and solidary society. With such criteria, we examine the ideological models of capitalism and communism, calling attention to eventual reductionisms having in mind a project of humanity inspired in the Gospel. As a result of this approach we suggest viewing the party option in a more dialogical and polarized way, observing the anthropological dimension of Politics and the criteria of the Social Doctrine of the Church, in view of the way public life is conducted.Keywords: Faith; Politics; Party option; Social Doctrine of the Church.

The background of Latin American society in the past who were familiar with the hegemony of power of the bourgeoisie caused concern in the hearts of Christian theologians at the time. This concern finally gave birth to a theological model known as Liberation Theology. Liberation Theology is a praxis-oriented theological model, namely real action for the liberation of marginalized, poor and oppressed people. But the thought of Marxism influenced the concept of Liberation Theology so that the theological model was more like a destructive ideology. Bringing the concept of Liberation Theology to the light of the word of God is the right action for the church today in responding to the Liberation Theology. The aim is to analyze the contents of Liberation Theology, and how should the role of the church address the Liberation Theology, and apply liberation theology in everyday life. The method used is an explanatory qualitative approach to the role of the church in response to Liberation Theology.Abstrak: Latar belakang masyarakat Amerika Latin di masa lampau yang akrab dengan hegemoni kekuasaan kaum borjuis menyebabkan timbulnya keprihatinan dalam hati para teolog Kristen kala itu. Keprihatinan ini akhirnya melahirkan suatu model teologi yang dikenal dengan nama Teologi Pembebasan. Teologi Pembebasan adalah model teologi yang berorientasi pada praksis, yaitu tindakan nyata untuk pembebasan kaum termarginalkan, miskin dan tertindas. Akan tetapi pemikiran Marxisme turut memengaruhi konsep Teologi Pembebasan sehingga model teologi ini lebih mirip ideologi yang destruktif. Membawa konsep Teologi Pembebasan kepada terang firman Tuhan adalah tindakan yang tepat bagi gereja masa kini dalam menyikapi Teologi Pembebasan. Tujuan tulisan ini adalah menganalisis isi Teologi Pembebasan, dan bagaimana seharusnya peran gereja menyikapi Teologi Pembebasan tersebut, dan menerapkan teologi pembebasan dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Metode yang digunakan adalah pendekatan kualitatif yang bersifat eksplanatori tentang peran gereja menyikapi Teologi Pembebasan.

By focusing on the development of central religious concepts, (most notably ‘authority’ and ‘the Church’) and their changing expression in organizational structures and patterns of behavior, a first step is taken toward a more complete and adequate analysis of the Church's evolving role in Latin American society and politics.

In Southern Africa, as is often the case in the rest of Africa, the relationship between “church and state” is an important one. This is the case not only because of the importance of politics in the lives of (South) Africans, but especially because of the churches’ involve­ ment in human relations and society. It is therefore all the more surprising that such few exegetical studies were done in this field in the past two decades. Some historical (“The Church Struggle” of De Gruchy is a good example) and some ethical studies lightens this somewhat dark picture.

Listening to the story of the church: Guidelines from a narrative hermeneutical perspectiveA church as a denominational entity cannot but contemplate where it would like to be in the near future. Reasons for this are the losses of the past, the issues of the present and the uncertainties of the future. In the article this matter is approached from a narrative hermeneutical perspective within the framework of a social constructionist model. The focus is on: collective memories, the different emphases of narratology and narrative hermeneutics, the dialectic between foundational myths and everyday stories of people’s lives, the recollection of memories within a temporal framework, grand narratives and contra narratives, as well as the relationship between fiction and history. The aim of the article is to show how narrative strategy pertains to engaged hermeneutics and enhances self-actualization.
