Abstract This paper examines several research questions relating to equality and equity in Chinese higher education via an extended literature review, which in turn sheds light on evolving scholarly explorations into this theme. First, in the post-massification era, has the Chinese situation of equality and equity in higher education improved or deteriorated since the late 1990s? Second, what are the core issues with respect to equality and equity in Chinese higher education? Third, how have those core issues evolved or changed over time and what does the evolution indicate and entail? Methodologically, this paper uses a bibliometric analysis to detect the topical hotspots in scholarly literature and their changes over time. The study then investigates each of those topical terrains against their temporal contexts in order to gain insights into the core issues.

In this study, we explore how institutional theory and its many subareas contributes, are utilized and applied to the area of higher education management’s research by their scholars. For this purpose, we performed a bibliometric analysis on 659 papers extracted from Web of Science database. As results we indicate five main clusters as foundation to the field: institutional theory; economic impact of entrepreneurship and universities; competitiveness of universities as businesses; service quality and; measurement and development of models for higher education. And 7 main clusters as subfields of research: Institutional Multiplicity; Institutional pressures on Higher Education; Higher Education Efficiency; Leadership in Higher Education; Entrepreneurial Higher Education; Academy & Professional relations and; Quality and Satisfaction in Higher Education.

With the increasing challenges our society faces, ranging from environmental issues to the current coronavirus crisis, interest in a new way of investing, known as impact investing, has also been increasing. In addition, recently, an even more conscious way of investing, known as integral investing, has appeared. In this article, the concepts of impact investing and integral investing are described and compared and their positive impacts on society are documented. The importance of people and leaders with corresponding ethics, morals, and personal values for the success of the investments is explained. As both impact and integral investing have the potential to meet the challenges of present-day society and to contribute to its further sustainable development, they should be addressed in academic research and higher education. Therefore, this article seeks to answer the question of whether these concepts are reflected in academia. To answer this question, a bibliometric analysis was conducted. The findings show that there is a modest but growing academic interest in impact investing and very little interest in integral investing. Reasons to take these topics into account in research and education are discussed in the final part of the article.

Pair programming is by definition two-person programming on the same computer. The technique has been used in many higher education institutions and has been reported in some scientific articles, usually for introductory to programming courses. The aim of this article is to make a situation report analyzing the scientific production on pair programming for curricular units of introduction to programming in higher education, measuring the advantages and disadvantages of the strategy. The sample was composed by 153 articles indexed in Elsevier’s Scopus. The results obtained by bibliometric analysis showed the publication rates, authors, in which journals they are published, which are the organizations and countries that publish the most, which are the most cited articles and what their purpose. The benefits reported are generally better code, improved programming and group skills, advantages for women and reducing the work of instructors. The problems are group compatibility: there are studies that randomly distribute pairs, while other use personality tests or knowledge self-assessment.

For more than three decades, higher education has attracted growing interest from scholars, students, and academic institutions worldwide. This paper aims to analyze the literature review of quality of higher education, using the bibliometric analysis adapted from VOSviewer software to examine the data of 500 studies published in the Web of Science from 2000 to 2018 related to this topic. The results were presented and discussed with the following approaches: keywords, authors, references (research papers), research work, countries, and research institutions. The study found that bibliometric analysis is fundamental in detailing the theoretical literature and developing an integrated theoretical framework on quality of higher education. This review provides reference points for entry into this interdisciplinary field.

Research related to blockchain is rapidly gaining importance in the higher education. This opportunity collaborates with a proposal for a review of papers on the main blockchain topic. The bibliometric analysis included 61 peer-reviewed articles published in the Scopus database during the period of 2016 to 2021. This paper offers the identification of gaps in the literature enabling studies on the subject in higher education. The article identifies the main applications of blockchain technology in higher education around the world, as well as suggests future investigations. For further scientific investigation, we propose the operationalization of each of the researched approaches, especially combining the blockchain relationship, artificial intelligence, digital innovation, digital maturity, and customer experience in higher education.
