In order to improve the standardization, specialization, intelligence and timeliness of the new generation weather radar fault repair, the technical threshold of radar fault repair is greatly reduced, so that the general operators can carry out radar fault repair work. In order to achieve this goal, this paper designs a new generation weather radar fault repair system, which aims to solve two problems: one is to solve the causes and locations of the new generation weather radar faults which can be quickly and accurately detected and diagnosed[1]; the other is to solve the problem that the grass-roots radar operational staff are inexperienced in maintenance and will not be repaired, and to provide visual through the maintenance system. Maintenance methods and steps with expert intelligence level [2], so that general radar operators can operate radar fault repair according to video steps, and have the technical level of maintenance experts, to achieve breakthroughs in technical difficulties of radar fault repair, to achieve both disease detection and treatment effect, to improve the efficiency of the use of new generation weather radar and to achieve modern technical equipment support. Chemistry plays an important role and significance.

Technical systems in the modern global world are rapidly evolving and improving. In most cases, these are large-scale multi-level systems and one of the problems that arises in the design process of such systems is to determine their reliability. Accordingly, in the paper, a mathematical model based on the Weibull distribution has been developed for determining a computer network reliability. In order to simplify calculating the reliability characteristics, the system is considered to be a hierarchical one, ramified to level 2, with bypass through the level. The developed model allows us to define the following parameters: the probability distribution of the count of working output elements, the availability function of the system, the duration of the system’s stay in each of its working states, and the duration of the system’s stay in the prescribed availability condition. The accuracy of the developed model is high. It can be used to determine the reliability parameters of the large, hierarchical, ramified systems. The research results of modelling a local area computer network are presented. In particular, we obtained the following best option for connecting workstations: 4 of them are connected to the main hub, and the rest (16) are connected to the second level hub, with a time to failure of 4818 h.

In the current situation, if the characteristic feature of livestock development is, on the one hand, related to the diversification of agriculture, on the other hand it is also associated with the production of various forms of ownership in the country, large farms and small private farms. At present, interrelated financial, technological, social and natural factors remain in our country as factors limiting the development of small-scale livestock farms. However, it should be noted that despite the lack of opportunities and material and technical support, small farms, peasant farmers and households currently produce more than 80% of meat and milk in our country.

The study of reconfiguration problems has grown into a field of its own. The basic idea is to consider the scenario of moving from one given (feasible) solution to another, maintaining feasibility for all intermediate solutions. The solution space is often represented by a “reconfiguration graph”, where vertices represent solutions to the problem in hand and an edge between two vertices means that one can be obtained from the other in one step. A typical application background would be for a reorganization or repair work that has to be done without interruption to the service that is provided.

In order to prepare soil for sowing of agricultural crops it is necessary to have a number of engineering structures that ensure its qualitative treatment and protection from erosion. Modern equipment do not fully meet the whole complex of specified requirements. Application of tillage machinery being used for main soil cultivation is directed on suppression (destruction) of natural vegetation which is considered as the strongest competitor to cultivated plants. From the other side, vegetation on the Earth’s surface plays an important role for reliable protection of soil from erosion. Destruction of vegetation throughout the whole period of crop tending leads to the fact that the remaining cultivated plants are not able to protect soil from erosion by such natural aggressive factors as rain storms and strong winds. As a consequence, processes of soil structure destruction and losses of entire soil strata and its fertility occur in the geographical (landscape) envelope. Thus, equipment for primary and secondary soil tillage exerts double impact: from one side, killing of weeds takes place, and on the other hand, there is destruction (erosion) of soil structure and profiles of its geographical envelope. The soil, in the understanding of the earth, is the perfect place that gives life to plants and organisms, has a fertility. For the last 50 years analytical scope of physical processes occurring in the soil has been extended, physical methods for investigation of soil properties and application of technical equipment for assessment of physical-mechanical soil characteristics have got widespread use. However, there is no summative investigation on soil physics which includes and reveals thermodynamics, electrophysics and nuclear physics of soils. At the same time an integrated approach for studying such complicated object makes it possible to understand important nature of some processes occurring in the soil and to develop practical measures for fertility improvement and erosion reduction. The paper considers problems pertaining to deformation mechanism while forming soil structure and its compression under influence of external loadings: magnetic, electric, physico-chemical, gravitational and thermal fields and working organs of tillage tools.

This work was designed to study the relationship between the disturbances of carbohydrate metabolism (DCHM) and insulin resistance (IR) on the one hand and body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC) on the other hand in the patients presenting with acute and cicatrical myocardial infarction (MI). It was shown that WC in all the patients exceeded the upper gender norm. The clinical manifestations of metabolic syndrome were documented in 65.6% of the patients with normal BMI, 85,7% of those with excess BMI, and in 96.3% of the patients with obesity. In all the groups the WC measures positively correlated with the glucose blood level at admittance to the hospital and on days 1 (r=0.34; p=0.01), 2 (r=0.38; p =0.0002), and 3 (r=0.68; p=0.002) after it. Similar correlation was observed with the insulin level 2 hours post-prandially on days 1 (r=0.42; p=0.01), 2 (r=0.5; p=0.0002), and 3 (r=-0.95; p=0.0003). The relationship between metabolic disorders and WC values indicates that visceral fat plays an important role in the regulation of metabolic processes and suggests the necessity of the treatment for the correction of WC.

Monitoring of precipitation using X-band weather radar systems is becoming popular. X-band weather radar network, as an additional equipment of China new generation weather radar, primarily used to measure weather echo within 3km above the ground and has a high prospect. The network, based on sensor grid, is greater information advantage and network advantage. This paper describes the design, the key technology and implementation of an architectural framework of the weather radar network based on sensor grid. The results show that the network works robustly in real time.

This introductory chapter provides an overview of House of Usher (1960), which was a part of American International Pictures' TV series The Curse of Corman. This TV series introduced American International's Poe pictures to a new generation. It is the emotional intensity conveyed through the mise-en-scène that sets the Poe pictures apart from their immediate rivals. The Poe pictures appealed to AIP's target audience — teenagers — because their aesthetics were also akin to the look and feel of EC horror comics. More than any of the other Poe pictures, House of Usher is a work of pulp expressionism that appeals to the angst holed up inside the minds of many a teenage audience member. Like a magic lantern, the film projector reveals a series of beautifully crafted, colourful tableau that in sequence give expression to Edgar Allan Poe's vision of human frailty and corruption, and the void that awaits beyond the threshold of life. This book explains why House of Usher has attracted a cult audience for nearly 60 years.

Historians of economics rarely consider textbooks as more than passive receptacles of previously validated knowledge. Therefore, their active role in shaping the discipline and its image is seldom addressed. In this paper, I study the making of Paul Samuelson’s successive editions of Economics from 1967 to 1973 as an instance of how textbooks stand at the crossroads between disciplinary knowledge, pedagogy, and larger political and societal concerns. In the mid-1960s, Economics, now at its sixth edition, was at the height of its success. Considered one cornerstone of modern economics, it was also at the center of a number of criticisms dealing with the current state of the economic discipline and its teaching in the universities. While the profession expressed its concern over the lack of relevance of economics to address the pressing issues of the day and pleaded for a new “problem-solving” approach to economic education, the late 1960s witnessed the emergence of a new generation of “radical” economists criticizing the economics orthodoxy. Their contention that mainstream theory had neglected the issues of class struggle and capitalist exploitation found a favorable echo among an increasingly politicized population. Using archival materials, I show how Samuelson, helped by his editorial team at McGraw-Hill, attempted to take into account these changes in order to ensure the continuing success of subsequent editions of his text in an increasingly competitive market. This study emphasizes Samuelson’s ambiguous attitude toward his contenders, revealing, on the one hand, his apparent openness to discussion and outsiders’ suggestions, and, on the other hand, his firm attachment to mildly liberal politics and aversion to Marxism, unchanged through revisions. It also helps refine a notion that is often invoked but never fully expounded in textbook studies: that of the audience.

Copernicus is a European system for monitoring the Earth in support of European policy. It includes the Sentinel-3 satellite mission which provides reliable and up-to-date measurements of the ocean, atmosphere, cryosphere, and land. To fulfil mission requirements, two Sentinel-3 satellites are required on-orbit at the same time to meet revisit and coverage requirements in support of Copernicus Services. The inter-unit consistency is critical for the mission as more S3 platforms are planned in the future. A few weeks after its launch in April 2018, the Sentinel-3B satellite was manoeuvred into a tandem configuration with its operational twin Sentinel-3A already in orbit. Both satellites were flown only thirty seconds apart on the same orbit ground track to optimise cross-comparisons. This tandem phase lasted from early June to mid October 2018 and was followed by a short drift phase during which the Sentinel-3B satellite was progressively moved to a specific orbit phasing of 140° separation from the sentinel-3A satellite. In this paper, an output of the European Space Agency (ESA) Sentinel-3 Tandem for Climate study (S3TC), we provide a full methodology for the homogenisation and harmonisation of the two Ocean and Land Colour Instruments (OLCI) based on the tandem phase. Homogenisation adjusts for unavoidable slight spatial and spectral differences between the two sensors and provide a basis for the comparison of the radiometry. Persistent radiometric biases of 1–2% across the OLCI spectrum are found with very high confidence. Harmonisation then consists of adjusting one instrument on the other based on these findings. Validation of the approach shows that such harmonisation then procures an excellent radiometric alignment. Performed on L1 calibrated radiances, the benefits of harmonisation are fully appreciated on Level 2 products as reported in a companion paper. Whereas our methodology aligns one sensor to behave radiometrically as the other, discussions consider the choice of the reference to be used within the operational framework. Further exploitation of the measurements indeed provides evidence of the need to perform flat-fielding on both payloads, prior to any harmonisation. Such flat-fielding notably removes inter-camera differences in the harmonisation coefficients. We conclude on the extreme usefulness of performing a tandem phase for the OLCI mission continuity as well as for any optical mission to which the methodology presented in this paper applies (e.g., Sentinel-2). To maintain the climate record, it is highly recommended that the future Sentinel-3C and Sentinel-3D satellites perform tandem flights when injected into the Sentinel-3 time series.
