Introduction: Beliefs about the consequences of stress, stress mindsets, are associated with health and performance outcomes under stress. This article reports the development and examination of the psychometric properties of a measure of stress mindset: The Stress Control Mindset Measure (SCMM). The measure is consistent with theory on mindsets about self-attributes and conceptualizes stress mindset as the extent to which individuals endorse beliefs that stress can be enhancing. Methods: The study adopted a correlational cross-sectional survey design in two student samples. Undergraduate students from an Australian university (Sample 1, N = 218) and a UK university (Sample 2, N = 214) completed the SCMM and measures of health and wellbeing outcomes. Results: Confirmatory factor analyses supported a four-factor structure and strict measurement invariance across samples (ΔCFI < .01). Reliability, convergent validity, discriminant validity, and concurrent validity of the overall SCMM was supported in both samples. Incremental validity was supported for most outcomes, accounting for significantly more variance (between 2.2% and 5.9%) in health and wellbeing outcomes than an existing measure. Conclusions: Current data provide preliminary support for the SCMM as a reliable and valid measure with good psychometric properties and theoretically consistent relations with health outcomes under stress. Findings provide initial evidence supporting the potential utility of the SCMM in future research examining relations between stress mindsets and health and performance outcomes.

Abstract Objective To explore the psychometrics of the Bulgarian version of the Hospital Survey on Patient Safety Culture (B-HSOPSC) and its suitability for use in Bulgaria. Design A national web-based cross-sectional survey of the safety patient culture. Setting The hospitals’ staffs from 28 administrative areas in the country. Interventions Web-based self-administered questionnaire. Participants Physicians and non-physicians such as nurses, midwifes, etc., working at hospitals. Main Outcome Measures Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was performed to assess the psychometric properties of the original US structure. Assessment of construct validity included convergent validity, discriminant validity, and nomological validity of constructs. Results A total of 525 valid cases were included in the analysis. The results of CFA revealed acceptable values for absolute indices and lower for the incremental index, comparative fit index. Due to the very low convergence validity, the dimension ‘staffing’ was removed from the model. Additionally, one item was removed from another dimension. The B-HSOPSC included 11 dimensions and 37 items. Conclusions The B-HSOPSC had acceptable levels of global and local fits. Its safety culture dimensions were sufficiently distinguishable and correlated with outcome variables.

Straipsnyje analizuojama darbuotojų psichologinio įgalinimo problema, pristatomas lietuviškas psichologinio įgalinimo vertinimo klausimynas ir jo psichometrinės charakteristikos. Metodas parengtas dviem etapais, naudojant empirinę skalių konstravimo strategiją. Pirmajame etape, taikant grupinio interviu ir ekspertinio vertinimo metodus, parengti psichologinio įgalinimo vertinimo teiginiai. Antrajame etape atliktas empirinis tyrimas (dalyvavo 189 tiriamieji, reprezentuojantys 8 Lietuvos organizacijas). Remiantis jo rezultatais parengtas lietuviškas psichologinio įgalinimo vertinimo klausimynas. Tiriamosios faktorių analizės metodu išskirti penki faktoriai: prasmė, entuziazmas, sprendimų priėmimas, autonomija ir pasitikėjimas kompetencija. It has been researched for several decades using various scales depending on the definition of psychological empowerment chosen by a reasercher. However, there is a lack of widely applicable, compact instruments for a reliable and valid assessment of psychological empowerment. Furthermore, there has been a lack of empowerment research in Lithuania. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to construct a Lithuanian psychological empowerment questionnaire and to evaluate its psychometric properties (reliability and validity).The strategy of the empirical construction of a questionnaire was used. At first, statements to describe the concept of psychological empowerment were generated, using group interviews and expert evaluation. Fifteen final items were included into the Lithuanian Psychological Empowerment Questionnaire (LPEQ). Then, an empirical research was performed: 189 respondents from 8 organizations filled up the LPEQ, G.M. Spreizer (1995) Psychological Empowerment Questionnaire (PEQ), B. E. Ashforth (1990) Helplessness Scale, Intrinsic Motivation Scale (Warr et al., 1979), and socio-demografic questions.The results of the study have revealed that the LPEQ has a high internal reliability (Cronbach α = 0.909). Five factors were extracted using the exploratoryfactor analysis, three items each. Psychological empowerment was defined based on five dimensions: meaning, enthusiasm, decision making, authonomy, and trust in competence. The Cronbach α was between 0.755 and 0.880 for the dimension level. These five dimensions show support for the existing models of psychological empowerment (Spreitzer, 1995; Menon, 2001), but also they supplement these models with for instance, the dimension of enthusiasm.The convergent validity of the LPEQ was confirmed by strong correlations (p < 0.01) between the LPEQ and the PEQ subscales, and the Intrinsic Motivation Scale. It was supported by a negative correlation between the LPEQ subscales and the Helplessness Scale. Based on the analysis of correlations, the discriminant validity of the LPEQ dimensions’ levels was confirmed.In conclusion, the Lithuanian Psychological Empowerment Questionnaire (LPEQ) can be characterized as an instrument with appropriate psychometricproperties for the use in research and practice. Purpose This study aims to examine empirically the existence of four classical and four emerging buyer–supplier relationship (BSR) types and how they differ in terms of behavioral dynamics and performance measures. Design/methodology/approach This study uses an online survey to collect data from 371 purchasing managers in the USA. Findings A cluster analysis statistically supports the existence of five of these eight BSR types, including strategic/bilateral partnership, market/discrete, supplier-led collaboration, captive supplier/buyer dominant and captive buyer/supplier dominant BSRs. Further, ANOVA tests show that these five BSRs differ in terms of behavioral outcomes and performance measures. Research limitations/implications This study is based on a cross-sectional survey so it cannot examine how these BSR types may evolve over time, and it is not suitable to examine some rare types of BSRs. In addition, this study does not consider contextual factors that may moderate the influence of BSR types on the behavioral dynamics and performance measures. Practical implications Managers should consider the potential to be able to develop and enhance a strategic/bilateral relationship with their supply chain partners, which in at least some circumstances can lead to superior performance results. Similar observations can be made with respect to supplier-led and, to a lesser degree, buyer-led collaboration. Originality/value Most existing research of the BSR types is largely a product of theoretical classifications, and there is also a lack of research of their performance implications. This study fills these gaps in the literature.

Background The Patient-Practitioner Orientation Scale (PPOS) was originally developed to compare doctor’s and patient’s consensus regarding patient centeredness. Research assumed PPOS measurements to be comparable across different groups of participants, however, without assessing the actual validity of this assumption. In this study, we investigate the psychometric properties and measurement invariance of a short version of the German translation of the PPOS. Methods Based on a cross-sectional survey of N = 332 medical students, we present a short version of the German Patient-Practitioner-Orientation Scale (PPOS-D6) and examine its psychometric properties as well as measurement invariance across participants with varying levels of medical experience and gender using multigroup confirmatory factor analyses. Results Results indicate that PPOS-D6 provides valid and reliable measurements of patient-centeredness that are invariant across participants with different medical experience. Preliminary results also suggest invariance across gender. Conclusion PPOS-D6 is a suitable and efficient measure to compare group-specific attitudes towards the doctor-patient interaction. Additional research on convergent and discriminant validity and divergent study samples is advised.

Objective: Characterized by significant work-related impairments, difficulties with relationships, and higher rates of criminal behavior and substance abuse, ADHD is now understood as a disability that can persist throughout a lifetime. Differing opinions remain, however, regarding adult symptoms of ADHD, particularly with regard to gender differences. These issues add to the challenges of constructing a reliable and valid measure of ADHD for use with adults in research and practice. Method: We review the theoretical foundations of ADHD and psychometric properties of a major assessment device, the Conners’ Adult ADHD Rating Scales (CAARS). Results: Results of the literature review found (a) a wide range of internal consistency estimates, with lowest values for the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders ( DSM)–Hyperactive/Impulsive Symptoms subscale when completed by women, and (b) discriminant validity estimates in the same range as convergent validity estimates. Conclusion: These findings raise questions about the construct validity of the CAARS and suggest directions for future research.

The working alliance may be relevant in unguided smartphone-based interventions, but no validated measure exists. We evaluated the psychometric properties of the six-item Digital Working Alliance Inventory (DWAI) using a cross-sectional survey of meditation app users ( n = 290) and the intervention arm of a randomized trial testing a smartphone-based meditation app ( n = 314). Exploratory factor analysis suggested a single-factor solution which was replicated using longitudinal confirmatory factor analysis. The DWAI showed adequate internal consistency and test–retest reliability. Discriminant validity was supported by a lack of association with social desirability, psychological distress, and preference for a waitlist condition. Convergent validity was supported by positive associations with perceived app effectiveness and preference for an app condition. Supporting predictive validity, DWAI scores positively predicted self-reported and objective app utilization. When assessed at Weeks 3 or 4 of the intervention, but not earlier, DWAI scores predicted pre–post reductions in psychological distress.

Objective. The aim of this study was to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Brazilian version of the Dental Fear Survey (DFS), previously translated to the Brazilian Portuguese language and validated.Methods. A cross-sectional study with 1,256 undergraduates from the city of Belo Horizonte, Brazil, was carried out. The DFS and a questionnaire about previous dental experiences were self-administered. Data analysis involved descriptive statistics, principal components analysis (PCA), confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), internal consistency and test-retest reliability, and construct, discriminant, and convergent validity.Results. PCA identified a three-factor structure. CFA confirmed the multidimensionality of the Brazilian version of the DFS. A modified model of the Brazilian version of the DFS fits better than the hypothesized model. The Cronbach’s alpha coefficient for the total DFS scale was 0.95.Conclusion. The DFS demonstrated acceptable construct validity, convergent validity, and discriminant validity. These results supported the reliability and validity of the DFS among Brazilian undergraduates.

<p>This study conducted to develop a measurement model for measuring Geo-Education in Malaysia context. This cross-sectional survey involved 245 trainee teachers in Universities and Institut Pendidikan Guru Malaysia (IPGM). The data collection was made through a set of questionnaires and analyzed using SEM-AMOS. There are four main elements measured, which are loading factors, convergent validity, discriminant validity, and composite reliability. The findings indicated that Geo-Education had a significant contribution to the proposed constructs, namely primer, issues, ecosystem, lifestyle, and cross-curricular elements. A model of Geo-Education was successfully developed in this study using these five constructs, namely primer, issues, ecosystem, lifestyle, and cross-curricular elements. This study also identified twenty-five behaviours of Geo-Education among the trainee teachers in Malaysia. The findings of this study are essential as a guideline for Malaysian teachers to implement the concept of Geo-Education in Malaysia. Additionally, the application of this subject as cross-curricular elements in the Malaysian curriculum is essential to ensure the success of the implementation of Education Sustainable Development (ESD) in the school environment.</p>

SummaryBackground: Due to the complexity of healthcare processes, the potential for Health Information Systems (HIS) to cause technology-induced errors is a growing concern. Health Information Technology (HIT) errors nearly always threaten good patient care and can lead to patient harm. Instruments to allow hospitals to proactively identify areas of Electronic Health Records (EHR) safety, to set priorities and to intervene before incidents occur are currently underdeveloped.Objectives: The aim was to design a Finnish questionnaire to measure EHR users’ perceptions of common EHR-related safety concerns in a specialized hospital district context through the lens of the theory of socio-technical dimensions. Moreover, the aim was to measure its reliability by assessing its internal consistency and validity, namely its content and construct validity.Methods: We constructed the instrument, based on the socio-technical theory and Sittig and Singh’s study findings, through a multi-stage process, and expert panels evaluated it to ensure its content validity. The final questionnaire consisted of eight error types to be assessed on a qualitative risk matrix scale. We used a cross-sectional design to test its psychometric properties. Application of the FIN-TIERA Questionnaire to a sample of 2864 clinicians in 2015 then served to evaluate the instrument’s reliability as well as its construct validity.Results: All eight multi-item scales showed high internal consistency (range α > 0.798-0.932 and CR 0.845-0.983). The average variance extracted (AVE) served to assess the confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). The results of the model fit with AGFI = .86, CFI = .898, RMSEA = .052, SRMR = .048 were deemed acceptable. For all factors, AVE yielded values > 0.5, which indicates adequate convergence and supports convergent validity. Discriminant validity was established for five out of a total of eight latent variables.Conclusions: FIN-TIERA is a new multi-dimensional instrument which may be a useful tool for assessing risk in EHR. Our testing shows its potential for use in-hospital settings: the involvement of EHR users demonstrated initial reliability and validity. Further research is recommended to assess the instrument’s psychometric properties.

Abstract Background Improving the healthcare sector in Palestinian territories is challenging. Organizations frequently use the balanced scorecard (BSC) for performance evaluation (PE) worldwide. BSC includes an evaluation of five perspectives: financial, customer, internal process, knowledge and innovation, and environmental. Most HealthCare Organizations (HCO) evaluated patient satisfaction in BSC, but none considered engaging patients in the evaluation process. This paper aims to develop an instrument to engage patients in assessing BSC perspectives at Palestinian hospitals (BSC-PATIENT). Methods This is a cross-sectional descriptive study. Two panels of experts participated in the item generation of BSC-PATIENT. Forward and backward translation processes from English to Arabic and vice versa were performed. Pretesting was performed for 30 patients at one hospital. Then, 1000 patients were recruited at 14 hospitals between January and October 2021. Construct validity was tested through exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). Additionally, the composite reliability (CR), interitem correlation (IIC), and corrected item total correlation (CITC) were assessed to find redundant and low correlated items. Results The scales had high adequate model fit in EFA and CFA. All items included had loadings higher than 0.50. Although the convergent validity was less than 0.50 for some constructs, their discriminant validity, CR, IIC, and CITC showed satisfactory results except the services experience (SERV EXR) construct, which had a CR of 0.50. The final best fit model in CFA comprised ten constructs with 34 items. Conclusion BSC-PATIENT is the first self-administered questionnaire specially developed to engage patients in evaluating their experiences and attitudes based on the BSC perspectives. The questionnaire scales were carried out following relevant guidelines and regulations. The results showed adequacy in the psychometric properties of this instrument. Three-point Likert scales are recommended to assess patient experiences and attitudes since they have higher response rates. Future research can be conducted using this instrument to evaluate the impact of patient experience on attitudes toward BSC perspectives and compare the differences based on patient and hospital characteristics.
