In addition to the devastating effects of anxiety and stress on the development and exacerbation of the cardiovascular disease, lack of stress control increases drivers' risk of accidents. This paper aims to identify the stress of drivers in various driving situations to warn the driver to control the tense conditions during driving. In order to detect stress while driving, we used the heart signals in the Physionet database. To analyze the conditions of the electrocardiogram (ECG) under various driving situations, linear and non-linear features were used. The characteristics of the RRIs are the only able to identify driver stress in different driving modes relative to rest periods, while the return mapping features, in addition to identifying driver stress while resting, have the ability to identify stress between different driving positions also brought. The results showed that driver's stress level during driving in city 1 and highway 1 with a P-value of 0.028 and also in city 3 and highway 2 with a P-value of 0.041 can be distinguished. The accuracy obtained from the proposed detection method is 98±2% for 100 iterations. The result indicated an efficiency of our proposed method and enhanced the reliability.

In recent times, as interest in stress control has increased, many studies on stress recognition have been conducted. Several studies have been based on physiological signals, but the disadvantage of this strategy is that it requires physiological-signal-acquisition devices. Another strategy employs facial-image-based stress-recognition methods, which do not require devices, but predominantly use handcrafted features. However, such features have low discriminating power. We propose a deep-learning-based stress-recognition method using facial images to address these challenges. Given that deep-learning methods require extensive data, we constructed a large-capacity image database for stress recognition. Furthermore, we used temporal attention, which assigns a high weight to frames that are highly related to stress, as well as spatial attention, which assigns a high weight to regions that are highly related to stress. By adding a network that inputs the facial landmark information closely related to stress, we supplemented the network that receives only facial images as the input. Experimental results on our newly constructed database indicated that the proposed method outperforms contemporary deep-learning-based recognition methods.

Shape adjustment and stress control can be considered as one of the effective parameters in prestressed cable structures since such structures are widely constructed nowadays due to their characteristics. The assembly errors and applied loads hugely affect the cables’ nodal positions and stress due to their delicacy. The former could disturb the shape, which affects the appearance and the function of the structure. In contrast, the latter may increase the stress in some cables above the upper limit or induce slack in some others. Accordingly, a technique has been proposed that combined fmincon optimization that relies on four different algorithms with a controlling approach based on the force method. The presented method aims to minimize the total amount of actuation and miniaturize the number of actuators. The targets of previously confirmed techniques can be obtained with less actuation and fewer actuators by using the current technique. Based on the verified examples, the advantage of the current approach over the quoted methods is up to 55% and 37% in terms of the number of actuators and the total amount of actuation, respectively.

Introduction: Running has proved to be one of the most popular physical activity with great benefits for the population health and psychological well being. However, it is also an activity with high discontinuity rates. Objective: The present study aimed was to verify if there are differences in the motivational dimensions by sex in a group of Brazilian amateur runners. Methods: Two hundred Brazilian runners (33.95 ± 11.38 years old), being 91 women and 109 men, answered The Inventory of Motivation to Regular Physical Activity and Sport (IMPRAFE-54). All volunteers practiced running on a regular basis. All participants answered the questionnaires before starting the training session. Results: The dimensions Pleasure and Health; Aesthetics, Sociability and Stress Control; and Competitiveness respectively were more important for the runners. It was found a significant difference (p<0.05), with a higher mean for men, on Sociability dimension. The dimensions statistically higher were Pleasure and Health, with a very similar motivational perception for both sexes. Only the Sociability dimension showed significant difference between men and women. All values of Mean’s Rank were superior in the men runners. Conclusions: The reasons for the practice of running between men and women Brazilian runners are similar. Only the Sociability dimension showed a significant difference by sex, indicating a higher perception of this dimension among men. Pleasure and Health were the most important factor in both sexes of Brazilian runners.

BACKGROUND: Professionally, private security guards are expected to successfully manage their anger and stress. OBJECTIVE: The primary purpose of this study is to determine stress and anger levels of private security guards working in the Ankara Electricity, Gas and Bus Operations Organization. The secondary aim of this research is to determine the effectiveness of the training program given to private security guards within the scope of anger and stress control. The effects of training on 690 private security guards who participated in the training program was investigated. METHODS: In the first part of the study, the validity and reliability of the Trait Anger, Anger Expression Scale and Coping with Stress Scale were investigated, and in the second part, the effectiveness of training given to 690 private security guards was examined. Also, as a comparison group, 201 private security guards who did not participate in training were reached and the scales were applied. RESULTS: The results showed that private security guards had an inability to cope with stress and anger was triggered easily. The average treatment effect was E[Y(1)   Y(0)| X] = –0.111 and this was statistically significant. This shows that training had a significant effect on anger. Anger decreased when stress-coping behaviours increased and the training was effective. CONCLUSIONS: It is important that training about anger and stress control should be given to security forces at regular intervals.
