Tofu liquid waste contains high levels of organic matter, especially protein and amino acids. These organic compounds can be proteins, carbohydrates and fats. Most of the bacteria are able to use oil or fat as a source of carbon and energy, bacteria that have this ability are often known as lipolytic bacteria. This study aims to obtain biosurfactant producing bacteria from tofu wastewater. This research was conducted from July - September 2020. The method used in this research is survey method and emulsification method. The media used for bacterial isolation were Tryptic Soy Broth (TSB) and Tryptic Soy Agar (TSA). 6 of the isolates are able to produce biosurfactants. Morphological and biochemical characteristics indicate six bacterial genera, namely Genus Agrobacterium, Proteus, Proteus, Citrobacter, Enterobacter, and Serratia. The bacteria obtained are bacteria that have the potential to degrade oil in a polluted environment.

Wastewater contains various organic components with different physical and biochemical characteristics. ASM No. 1 distinguishes two categories of biodegradable organic matter in wastewater, rapidly and slowly biodegradable. In general there are two methods for wastewater characterization: based on filtration in combination with a long-term BOD test or based on a respirogram. By comparing both approaches, we showed that in wastewater three categories of organic compounds with different biodegradation rates can be distinguished. These categories are referred to as readily biodegradable, rapidly hydrolysable and slowly hydrolysable organic matter. The total biodegradable COD can be found from a long-term BOD-test combined with a curve-fit and the readily biodegradable and rapidly hydrolysable from a respirogram. The slowly hydrolysable is the difference between total biodegradable COD and the sum of readily biodegradable and rapidly hydrolysable COD. Simulation with characterization based on filtration for a pre-anoxic reactor with a certain N-removal compared with the N-removal of the same plant with wastewater according to the modified characterization shows different results of each wastewater, especially with regard to the effluent nitrate concentration.

Compost fertilizer is fertilizer that comes from the remains of organic matter through a decomposition process with the aim of improving soil structure. This research aimed to determine farmers' perceptions of the use of compost on rice farming, the influence of internal factors and external factors on the perceptions of farmers in using compost on rice farming, and the design of extension and use of compost fertilizer on rice farming to determine the perceptions of farmers on the use of compost fertilizer on rice farming. The research method used is the survey method. The sampling method uses purposive sampling method. The results of this study showed that the highest perception received was 57,1% based on making compost, the age and experience of rice farming do not affect farmers' perceptions, and the design of counseling uses the material for making also using compost on rice farming; the methods used are visual, audio visual, lecture, and discussion; the media used is film.

The liquid waste of the tofu industry contains high organic contaminants, such as proteins and amino acids. These organic compounds causes liquid waste of tofu industry to contain high BOD, COD, and TSS so that it can pollute the environment. Therefore, tofu liquid should be removed first by electrocoagulation method. This method has the potential to purify tofu liquid waste and decrease the content of COD, BOD, TSS, and pH contained without the addition of coagulants. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of voltage and flow rate to neutralize pH, and reduce levels of COD, BOD, and TSS in tofu liquid waste. The parameters tested included COD, BOD, TSS, and pH. The electrocoagulation process uses electrical power that flows in the direction of the electrode. The electrocoagulation reactor was paired with a cable connected to the power supply then connected to an electric current with voltage and flow rate variations. The results of this study found that optimum conditions were obtained at current of 12 V and flow rate of 0.087 L/min with increasing pH from pH from 3.5 to 6.7,  percent removal of COD 72.17%, percent removal BOD 71.53% , and percent removal TSS 90.90%.

Liquid tofu waste has the effect of damaging the environment if treated poorly. The waste contains a reasonably high protein so that it can be used as a substrate for isolation of proteolytic bacteria. Proteases produced by proteolytic bacteria can hydrolyze proteins in liquid tofu waste. The results of protein hydrolysis are amino acids in the form of nitrogen. The nitrogen can be used by plants for nutritional growth so that bioconversion products from proteolytic bacteria can be used as biofertilizers. The purpose of this study was to isolate and select potential proteolytic isolates from tofu liquid waste, which could be used as biofertilizer agents. The method used was bacterial isolation, proteolytic activity test, potato decay test, hemolysis test, and antagonism test among isolates. The results showed that there were two potential isolates from 28 isolates that had been successfully isolated, namely BLT-12 and BLT 21 with each Proteolytic Index of 3.20 and 3.16, respectively. The two isolates were gram-positive in the form of basil, did not have hemolysis activity, could not decompose potatoes so that they did not have a pathogenic effect on the test plants and did not have antagonistic properties between the two others. Therefore, BLT 12 and BLT 21 isolates can be used as candidates for potential isolates of biofertilizer agents.

There is a long-standing debate about the effects of media-generated stereotypes on receivers’ trust and attitude. However, there is insufficient consensus about their influence on the media receiver’s ecological perspective in determining their extent of trust and attitudes. Drawing an analogy from Differential Susceptibility to Media Effect Model (hereafter DSMM) notion that media effects are conditional and are contingent on differential-susceptibility, this study examines the influence of dispositional and social susceptibility to media. To do so, the study validates the influence of media user’s gender (dispositional susceptibility) and ethnicity (social susceptibility) in determining the outcomes of media-generated stereotypes, media trust (MT), and attitude towards media organization (AO). The survey method has been employed to collect data through a self-administered questionnaire from 1061 university students in public sector institutions in Pakistan. The results provide empirical evidence that media-generated stereotypes are a substantially negative predictor of media trust and attitudes towards the media organization. The results also validate that the influence of the stereotyping manifested by the receiver’s ecological perspective such as ethnicity and gender are crucial determinants of the receiver’s trust and attitudes. Managerially, the study urges that journalistic practices must be more ethnoculturally inclusive, to cope with the contemporary media landscape.

The extraterrestrial delivery of organics to primitive Earth has been supported by many laboratory and space experiments. Minerals played an important role in the evolution of meteoritic organic matter. In this study, we simulated aqueous alteration in small bodies by using a solution mixture of H2CO and NH3 in the presence of water at 150 °C under different heating durations, which produced amino acids after acid hydrolysis. Moreover, minerals were added to the previous mixture to examine their catalyzing/inhibiting impact on amino acid formation. Without minerals, glycine was the dominant amino acid obtained at 1 d of the heating experiment, while alanine and β-alanine increased significantly and became dominant after 3 to 7 d. Minerals enhanced the yield of amino acids at short heating duration (1 d); however, they induced their decomposition at longer heating duration (7 d). Additionally, montmorillonite enhanced amino acid production at 1 d, while olivine and serpentine enhanced production at 3 d. Molecular weight distribution in the whole of the products obtained by gel chromatography showed that minerals enhanced both decomposition and combination of molecules. Our results indicate that minerals affected the formation of amino acids in aqueous environments in small Solar System bodies and that the amino acids could have different response behaviors according to different minerals.

Semisolid yeast extract medium amended with glucose and tryptic soy agar were used to isolate aerobically N2-fixing (C2H2-reducing) heterotrophic bacteria from the root of wetland rice. The isolates were identified as Pseudomonas by gel immunodiffusion and fluorescent antibody techniques in combination with their morphological, cultural, and biochemical characteristics. The N2-fixing H2-utilizing Pseudomonas described in this paper is a new species.
