Background: Vitellointestinal duct (VID) or Omphalomesenteric duct (OMD) is the embryonic connection between the yolk sac and the primitive midgut. Anomalies result from failure of the involution of the VID. Normally, it obliterates between the fifth and seventh weeks of fetal life. They include Meckel’s diverticulum (MD), fibrous band, fistula, sinus tract, cyst, and umbilical polyp. Symptomatic cases require surgical correction. They are characterised by different clinical presentations and histological appearances. This study gathers a single paediatric institutional experience of VID remnants, their demographic, clinical profile, varied histomorphology including the presence of ectopic tissues. Aims and Objectives: The objective of this study was to retrospectively review all the symptomatic cases of VID abnormalities at a tertiary pediatric referral hospital. The demographic profile, clinical presentation, and histopathology were reviewed and descriptively analyzed. We classified these anomalies based on embryology and histology. The findings of this study will provide insights to pathologists and treating clinicians less exposed to these rare lesions. Materials and Methods: Data was retrieved retrospectively from the pathology records of a tertiary paediatric referral institute for 3 years. Histological slides of VID anomalies were reviewed and a descriptive analysis of the findings was performed. A thorough review of the literature was also done on these very rare lesions and their findings compared to our results. Results: A total of 60 cases of VID anomalies were encountered during the study period. There was significant male preponderance. The most common age group at surgery was infancy. MD was the commonest VID anomaly. The least common was vitelline fistula and only a single case was encountered in the study period. Ectopic tissues were seen in 25% of the cases and included gastric and colonic mucosae and pancreatic tissue. Conclusion: The histopathology of VID anomalies provides an interesting diagnostic experience for the reporting pathologist. Awareness of the embryology, presentation and histology of these lesions aids in accurate diagnosis.

Background: Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and adenocarcinoma are the most common esophageal cancers. Barrett’s esophagus is the change of esophageal stratified squamous epithelium to columnar cells which if remain undiagnosed follows the dysplasia – carcinoma sequence. The last two decades show a change in the histologic pattern of esophageal carcinoma. Adenocarcinoma is at majority rate than SCC in the West, however, in Asia, SCC is still the commonest cancer of esophagus. In this study, we aim to define a spectrum of premalignant and malignant neoplasms of esophagus in our region. Methods: This study was done at Dow Diagnostic Research and Reference Laboratory (DDRRL). All the cases of preneoplastic and neoplastic lesions of esophagus received during the period of 7 years (2009-2015) were reviewed. The data obtained were subjected to descriptive statistical analysis using SPSS version 21. Results: Out of 94 premalignant cases, 70 (74.5%) were diagnosed as Barrett’s esophagus, 23 (24.5%) as dysplasia and 1 (1.1%) as adenoma. From the total of 450 malignant cases, 395 (87.7%) were SCC, 54 (12%) were adenocarcinoma and a single case of leiomyoma was diagnosed. Grade II SCC was found to be most the common lesion. Conclusion: Barrett’s esophagus was more than dysplasia and showed male preponderance. SCC was the predominant esophageal cancer, which is similar to the other studies in our country. SCC was found more common in females than males and vice versa for adenocarcinoma. Majority of all the cases belonged to 41-60 years of age group.

The aim of this study is to explore the CELTA course from the perspective of EFL instructors. A single case study of qualitative research methods is employed in the study. The sample consists of 6 EFL instructors working for a private university in Turkey. The quantitative data of the research was obtained through course evaluation survey. Qualitative data was gathered by open-ended questions and interview forms developed by the researcher and also with the documents. Descriptive analysis was performed to show evaluation of the course in the quantitative phase of the research. On the other hand, the content analysis method was applied in the analysis of qualitative data. As a result of the study, the CELTA course is useful for EFL instructors’ careers; nevertheless the course components and content should be redesigned considering andragogic principles. Moreover, EFL instructors were pleased to take the course at the end of the course although the course’s weaknesses.

Actually, it’s so important to articulate procedures that enable to analyze real work made in schools on Key Competences (KKCC). The aim of this study it was studied the perception management teams and teachers of Physical Education (PE) about this curricular element. The sample used in the research covers all the secondary schools in the capital of Burgos (Spain), a total of thirty. It was studied, using the descriptive analysis of a series of questionnaires completed by teachers, the assessment made them on the use of KKCC as an element of learning by the student. It has also conducted a single case study as a participant observer during a school year in a representative sample center, in order to examine in detail in the daily contribution to competencies. Participating teachers, despite favorable consideration to the integration of KKCC in the classroom, demonstrate a lack of information by the public administration, resulting in a lack of teacher training in regard to the possible application tools the classroom.

Recent investigations support the concept that insulin is a primary growth hormone during fetal life. The importance of insulin in fetal development is illustrated by the following case presentation, a severely growth-retarded infant who possessed no detectable pancreatic tissue at postmortem examination. CASE REPORT Patient B.G.C. was born following an uncomplicated pregnancy to a 19-year-old gravida 1, para 0, abortus 1 mother by emergency Cesarean section for fetal distress. The baby weighed 1,350 gm with Apgar scores of 2 at one minute, 2 at five minutes, and 4 at ten minutes, requiring immediate intubation and ventilation. Gestational age was 41 weeks by dates, 36 to 37 weeks by clinical examination, and greater than 36 weeks by radiologic evidence of teeth calcification.1

Notochord formation begins between the third and fourth weeks of embryonic development. As the axial skeleton develops, the notochord regresses and eventually contributes to the formation of the nucleus pulposus of the intervertebral disks. Notochord regression can be variable, especially at the 2 poles of the skeleton, which results in the persistence of ectopic notochordal remnants. These remnants include benign entities (eg, ecchordosis physaliphora, benign notochordal cell tumor, Tornwaldt cyst, canalis basilaris medianus, fossa navicularis) or malignant lesions (eg, chordoma). We present a review of these lesions, their clinical presentations, and their typical radiographic appearances. Notochord remnants may have overlapping features in terms of their location and appearance; however, differentiation is crucial because the proper treatment and management may differ drastically. Familiarity with notochord development aids in understanding the characteristic locations of notochordal remnants. Noting the unique imaging findings of notochordal remnants can often help narrow the differential diagnoses.Learning Objective: To describe notochord development, normal regression during fetal life, and notochord remnants that give rise to anatomic variants, including benign and malignant lesions.

Science education emphasizes the development of individuals' ability to make comments, reasoning, and critical reflection while expressing their scientific thoughts. In this sense, future science teachers have great responsibility to develop those skills of the learners and their meaningful learning. Many researches emphasize hermeneutical thinking for disciplines such as mathematics and science to create meaningful learning. The current research aimed to reveal pre-service science teachers’ hermeneutical perspectives about science and to determine their existing ideas. For this aim, scientific problems presented to pre-service science teachers via scenarios, and how they developed their approaches to solve these problems, and whether they used hermeneutics in this process were examined. The hermeneutical perspectives of pre-service teachers were selected as a single case -by using qualitative research method- to have a deep understanding of their hermeneutical perspectives. The research group consisted of nine third-year-students. Semi-structured interviews prepared by the researchers were applied before and after the intervention in the research conducted for 14 weeks in Science Teaching Laboratory Applications-I course. The data were analysed by a descriptive analysis method. It has been evidenced that science-related hermeneutical perspectives of the pre-service science teachers have developed as a result of the problem-based scenario studies. Abstract Background The Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) established a consolidated COVID-19 screening area (CSA) beginning in March 2020 to provide beneficiary and staff testing via a drive-through site. Testing was available to all patients and WRNMMC staff regardless of beneficiary status. Presented is a descriptive analysis of our testing operations and positivity rates within a closed medical system from March 2020 to April 2021. Methods For quality and process improvement, we compiled daily testing logs from March 2020 to April 2021 from the CSA. These logs included patient demographics, reason for testing, test result, testing platform, and occupational status at the hospital. We determined positivity rates in various subgroups – asymptomatic, symptomatic, pre-operative, in order to track testing use and access. Additionally, we compared the overall positivity rate to the surrounding civilian community by pulling data from the Maryland Department of Health’s COVID database. Results Over the course of nearly 14 months of testing availability, 34,694 beneficiaries were screened with 41,582 individual tests. After May 2020, the monthly overall positivity rate varied from 1.99% to 11.92%, peaking in December 2020 (with high rates in November 2020, 7.52% and January 2021, 9.53%), correlating with or exceeding elevated positivity rates in Montgomery County (November 2020: 4.91%; December 2020: 6.48%; January 2021: 6.51%). When examining only symptomatic individuals, the positivity rate is notably much higher, with monthly rates varying from 6.40% to 21.10%, with a similar peak in December 2020. After full implementation of pre-operative screening for procedures with aerosolization potential in June 2020, the range of positivity rates was 0.28%-1.66%. Since vaccination for COVID-19 became widely available beginning in Feb 2021, the preoperative positivity rate has remained below 0.85%. Conclusion Our institutional experience is unique in its ability to offer universal access to COVID-19 testing for beneficiaries and staff of the DoD under direction of the ID service. Our process serves as a model for public and occupational health response, and may guide lab resource and real-time staffing management in support of COVID-19 diagnostics at a medical center. <span>This study examined the learning of Pi (π) numbers in elementary school mathematics. This research was conducted by employing case study method containing a single case concerning the Pi (π) numbers. A total of 432 pre-service teachers participated in the study from the academic year of 2019-2020. This research employed observation, interview, and document analysis as the data collection tool. The conduct of the research involving the teachers and pre-service teachers was made in the classroom environment. The practice that participants posed for the account of Pi (π) number were analyzed by descriptive analysis technique in the scope of qualitative analysis. The data obtained from the participants were summarized and interpreted according to the predefined theme, and findings were arranged by a direct citation of the problems. Based on the analysis of the research, it showed that participants had problems in determining Pi (π) numbers as Pi (π) numbers are only taught by memorization methods. The teachers also did not understand about the source of Pi (π) number. Learning Pi (π) numbers are directly practiced through problems and formulas. Understanding the formula of plane figures is also not yet understood, so teachers and students basically only memorize the formula.</span>
