Teaching special needs students becomes more challenging and frustrating. Moreover, some SLB in Kendari nowadays have not been facilitated by suitable learning media, particularly in EFL context.  This study describes the research that sought to understand if the teaching media electronic or not, using flashcards, foldable books, and posters, is under the necessities of deaf and hard hearing students. This question becomes the primary goal of the investigation, and its enlighten is divided into three specific goals. They are, finding out the effects of the media used in assisting special need students and EFL teacher in the class; helping them in communication and comprehending the teaching materials especially in vocabulary English class; and gaining EFL teacher’s and special need students’ motivation in teaching and learning process utilizing the media. This study used qualitative by single case study design, which was conducted about six months in 2018. Five students by deaf and hard hearing impairment of SLB-F Mandara (special private junior high school) are as the sample of this study. The observation list and depth-interview were utilized in data collection. After doing some interventions, the data analysis used data reduction, data display, and conclusion. The results showed that by intervention and utilizing diverse media by flashcards, foldable books and posters could ultimately gain teacher’s and students’ motivation in the EFL context.

The use of technology-based learning media, including video in English class can trigger students’ motivation to learn English and improve the learning process. This interesting and innovative media is believed to promote students’ engagement along the process. This descriptive study aims to describe the response of students related to their engagement to the use of English Learning video developed by using Camtasia Studio in second-grade students of elementary school. The data were collected through observations, interview and teacher’s questionnaire rubric. The result reveals that using technology-based media in classroom is really appropriate to increase students’ motivation and learning activeness to get a better teaching and learning process. Students and teacher gave positive responses toward the media and it was categorized into ‘Excellent’ media in which it was interesting and fulfilled the needs of second-grade students. Further, it was suggested for the next research to conduct the study in different grade.

This paper is intended to identify how teachers’ emphasis on writing influence the learning process in an English class, taking into account that the development of the four language skills is essential for learning a second language to gain an effective communication. this study adopts some main concepts related to English teaching and learning, which are: language skills, writing and learning process. Then, in order to recognize this educational case, this study follows a qualitative approach, a hermeneutic paradigm and a case study, using a non-participant observation, a participant observation, a semi-structured interview and some task-based learning (TBL) sessions which were observed critically by the researchers; all these data collection tools were useful to achieve the aim of this research. The aim of this study is to exhibit how the teachers’ emphasis on writing over the other language skills affects the English learning process in third grade students, at the “Institución Educativa San Cristóbal.” Among the remarkable results, it is visible that the teacher made the students develop aspects on the writing skill, but these were focused on transcription and repetition rather than comprehensible written productions.

This study aims to analyse the media management strategy of Indonesian television stations during the Covid-19 pandemic. In March 2020, an outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia affected the operations of broadcasting offices, which forced people to work from home. This situation affects the operations, strategy, and content of the television industry. The object of research is Kompas TV, one of the largest media companies in Indonesia, which was the first to implement a digital concept for its customers. The concepts of planning, organising, actuating, and controlling are used to analyse the strategies media utilised. The methodology employed for the current research takes the form of a case study by adopting the qualitative approach through an in-depth interview and observation. The results showed that Kompas TV, through its digital platform in the form of websites, YouTube channels, and social media, achieved an increase in the number of viewers, users, and engagement during the pandemic. In particular, the digital aspect does not only appear in communication, but also in the implementation of the Kompas TV strategy. The results of the study also revealed that strategies carried out on Kompas TV can be used as a model for other television in Indonesia to emulate, in order to sustain its business in times of crisis. <p><strong>Abstract.</strong> Learning media is a teaching and learning process that tends to be interpreted as graphical, photographic, or electronic tools to capture, process, and reconstruct visual or verbal information. Crosswords are a kind of word play. The learning media developed to facilitate teachers and students in the process of learning and teaching at Junior High School grade VIII. The purpose of this study was to prodice <em>puzzle </em>learning media by crossword <em>puzzle</em> and feasible to be developed as rearning media on human eireulatory system material. Based on the results of the observations that have been carried out, the teacher only uses descourse and less varied learning  which makes students bored in learning. The method used in this study is the research and development (R &amp; D), by ADDIE method, the researcher produced a crossword puzzle and its feasibility will be tested. The results of the study after the media were tested on the validator of media experts and material experts got a very decent category. The results of the research from the science teacher, get a very feasible assessment to be developed. The results of research on peer review get a very feasible category to be tested. And the results obtained during the trial of students with trials of small groups, middle groups and large groups led to a very decent category. To we it can be concluded that, puzzle learning media by crossword puzzles is very feasible to develop.</p><p><strong>Keywords:</strong> Puzzle learning media, crossword puzzles</p>

As a demand of English learning, eighth grade students need to be able to write a recount text about their personal experiences. For this reason, this study employs a qualitative case study research design to analyse students’ writing of recount text. The data were obtained by collecting students’ writing in two different classes of eight grade junior high school in Bandung, Indonesia during the even semester of academic year 2016/2017. The self-composed recount texts were selected based on different proficiency levels as suggested by the English teacher of the school. For the framework of the text analysis, this study draws on Systemic Functional Linguistic theory, and recount text. Meanwhile, content analysis was employed to explore the analysis of the writing. The results presented that majority of problems on the students’ writings consist of social function and language feature. In terms of language features, there were still several errors in spelling, punctuation and capitalization. In term of Interpersonal metafunction, errors usually occurred in the Finite as there was an overlap of past tense and present tense. As a result, it was found that most of the clauses were written in material process and it still lack of reference in the theme-rheme structure.

This research aims at designing a learning media which named LEEF (Learning English Easy and Fun) as English learning media for seventh grade students of Junior High School. This learning media consists of some materials and exercises which is appropriate and feasible to be studied for students. All materials in this media are based on junior high school syllabus of K13 curriculum. The research method used in this research is Research and Development. This development used ADDIE model which have several steps, those are; 1) Analysis, 2) Design, 3) Development, 4) Implementation, and 5) Evaluation. The result of this research shows that from the media validation result got 4.00 score it was in “fair and worth to use” category, and the material validation got 3.86 score. The students’ responses of try out result score 4.26 were in “fair and worth to use” category. By having those result, this LEEF (Learning English Easy and Fun) is feasible to be used as a learning media for seventh grade students of junior high school. Furthermore this research can be used as reference to other researchers in developing English learning media in different level of students.

Technology is part of our daily lives; we can observe the use of technology in our cell phones and portable computers and, most notably, within classrooms. If used within the proper pedagogical context, computer-aided technology can be quite advantageous to teacher educators whose pedagogical belief is also centered on teaching and learning that is responsive to students’ needs and cultures. When technology is combined with Problem-Based Learning (PBL), it can be a powerful aid to help pre-service teachers build cultural literacy and the skills needed to be responsive to students’ needs. This chapter presents a single case study of the highly successful academic outcomes through the wedding of PBL and technology.

The aims of this research were identify: 1) The types of code switching, 2) Find out the factors influence the teachers to switch English into Indonesian or the opposite, 3) Analyze the impact of teacher’s code switching for the students. This research was held on SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Ponorogo. The research design was qualitative research especially case study. Research used observation and interview as the data collection technique in this research. To analyze the data the writer transcribing interviewing, scanning material, typing up field notes, coding process, making qualitative narrative, and making interpretation the data. Based on finding, the types of code switching which was used by English teacher at SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Ponorogo include tag code switching, inter sentential code switching, and intra sentential code switching with different quantities. The factor influence teachers to conducted switch English to Indonesian such as the students understanding was the big factor and the students characteristic were different, they had not same ability in English. Finally, the researcher proposed suggestion to the teachers to maintain using code switching during teaching and learning English in classroom, but continue to prioritize English as the primary. They could switch Bahasa Indonesia, but when used for certain purposes only.

To be good a teacher, a teacher must incessantly improve her/his teaching practice and skill/knowledge to produce and keep the academic quality. Mechanically, a teacher requires to concern a particular method/ technique or strategy and use a certain tool/type to fulfill the benchamark of excellence in teaching. Hence, reflection is substantial as one of the indispensable approaches that can be practiced to direct teacher’s performance becomes more experienced. In teaching, the term reflection refers to the opportunity of teachers to think back critically after the teaching-learning process. Previous studies that have been conducted to observe the efficiency of teacher journal in the education field. Conversely, only a few kinds research explored teacher’s perceptions toward the utilization of the teacher’s journal. Likewise, this research was located in Indonesia and engage an in-service EFL teacher of Junior High School to accomplish the gap. It intended at determining the parts reflected from the teacher journal. Moreover, to investigate the research problems, the researcher used an in-depth interview to explore the teacher’s experience in utilizing teacher diary. Consequently, this study employed a qualitative method since it was considered as the appropriate design to accomplish the research. The researcher concluded that the teacher has a positive perceptions related to the teacher’s diary/teacher’s journal. It gives precious involvement for English teachers to be more experienced and professional to help students in mastering English skills and help the teacher to do reflection in order to make a better teaching practice for the next English teaching.

Learning English is very closely related to learning western culture, which might contrast with Islamic values, the dominant religion in Indonesia. This study finds merit in finding out the implementation of Islamic values in teaching English at an Integrated Islamic school in Indonesia, where the school chosen curriculum mandated that the subject be integrated with Islamic values since all the students are Muslim. This case study took place at an Integrated Islamic School, and the data were collected through interviewing seven English teachers and conducting a thematic analysis on their lesson plans. All the teachers admitted that integrating Islamic values in the English lesson was essential. Still, the thematic analysis showed that their perceptions about the importance of integrating Islamic values in English learning were not firmly in line with the implementation in the teaching and learning process. The teachers' lesson plans (RPP) did not depict substantial integration of Islamic values. This study recommends the practical ways of integrating Islamic that could improve teachers' understanding of Islamic values in English learning, additionally pointing out a need to develop the curriculum and teaching materials that incorporate Islamic values.
