Mismatch of regional supply and demand of workforce warrants migration. Workforce gets migrated from abundantly available regions to scarcely endowed regions. Migration reduces the pressure of unemployment in the regions of abundance and facilitates capital formation. At the same time, migrated workforce comes across multiple adversities at their migrated places leading to complication in many fronts like adaptability to climate, culture, practice, language, food, etc. All these issues have direct bearings with the health of the migrants. As hypothesised before this research, based on observation of a few cases, migration put a toll on the health of the migration owing to failure in adaptability. However, a hypothesis based on judgment needs to be tested, and hence the foundation of this research is laid. This paper is based on qualitative research wherein Case study method is adopted, and seven cases (i.e., migrants) have been highlighted through in-depth interviews with those migrants, their family members and health-care consultants of those migrants for ascertaining whether migration has gifted them some diseases. In the process, this study also unfolds the availability, affordability and accessibility of the health care facilities in the migrated places by the migrant workforce.

There are few studies that have found an adequate means of assessing firms based on their specific needs for a concurrent engineering (CE) approach. Managers interested in introducing CE have little choice but to rely on their past experiences of introducing change. Using data gleaned from a nine month case study, a British-wide survey and a series of in-depth interviews, this paper summarizes the findings of a research study that examines how firms orientate themselves towards change and how they go about introducing CE to their operations. The data show that there are many benefits to introducing CE and that firms differ with respect to their needs for the CE approach. A tentative means to assess CE ‘needs’ is proposed which is based on the level of complexity of goods produced by firms. The method is currently being developed and extended to provide an applications-based framework to assist firms to improve their new product development performance.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to study more deeply the use of performance information (PI) in the context of the administrative-territorial reform, e.g. amalgamation in the local governments (LG) with an example of Estonian LGs. Design/methodology/approach The case study method is adopted, using data from publicly available documents and interviews with the politicians and officials at the five merger cases of Estonian LG units. The data are interpreted and analysed using attribution theory. Findings The results show that amalgamation patterns do have an influence on PI use – in particular, the authors see that PI is reported to be used more frequently in cases of voluntary mergers, which may be related to the different motivations to make attributions in cases of voluntary and compulsory mergers. Originality/value The study contributes to the debate on the importance and usefulness of different types of PI, as financial as well as non-financial information and for different information users in the light of LG reform in Estonia as being a Central and Eastern European country.
