The volume shows the diversity and richness of intellectual potential, which Marek J. Siemek used in his original idea of “social transcendence”. The idea can be compared with the transcendence of the discourse socially “placed” by Habermas and with the post-metaphysical rationality models from McCarthy to Brandom. It allows to answer such questions as: what reason and rationality is needed for the process of modern socialization to take place, and if it possible today for the “givers” and the “takers” to approve the rules of self-government having the same autonomy and within the same law which is expressed by the Kantian “transcendental unity of apperception”.

The contemporary approaches to the development of territories are considered in the article. It is noted that the integrated European approach to the development of territories is increasingly being applied in Ukraine. The essence of integrated development, the stages of development of the Integrated Development Strategy (Concept Strategy), emphasized that understanding of the role and functions of government and local self-government in the development and implementation of integrated development of territories should be perceived not only as the current management task, but also as social responsibility to the community and society. The key aspects of socially responsible behavior of authorities and local self-government in ensuring integrated development of territories are determined. It is noted that the perception of the fulfillment of its functions as social responsibility will allow to effectively plan and implement the development plans of the territories, compete for investments and the best jobs; use the local resource of the territory to create competitive advantages of the region, provide motivation and the ability of "key players" to use competitive advantages and to cooperate effectively; create and maintain institutions that promote the use of intellectual potential, ongoing modernization and innovation in the region; to ensure the willingness and ability of key institutions to adapt to the challenges of the global economy.

Abstract This paper presents a novel deductive methodology, which is accomplished by applying difference analysis to nano-probing technique. In order to prove the novel methodology, the specimens with 90nm process and soft failures were chosen for the experiment. The objective is to overcome the difficulty in detecting non-visual, erratic, and complex failure modes. And the original idea of this deductive method is based on the complete measurement of electrical characteristic by nano-probing and difference analysis. The capability to distinguish erratic and invisible defect was proven, even when the compound and complicated failure mode resulted in a puzzling characteristic.

Ten slotte beschrijft het artikel hoe deze nu bijna totaal vergeten man tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog in het vaarwater geraakte van de collaboratie, fungeerde als directeur van het Arbeidsamt in Antwerpen, na de oorlog veroordeeld werd en jaren lang ondergedoken leefde in die stad.________Jozef Duysan’s battle with the angel: Skirmishes around the tomb of Paul Van OstaijenThis contribution reports the vicissitudes concerning the plan dating from the nineteen thirties to transfer the mortal remains of the Flemish poet Paul Van Ostaijen from the small Walloon village where he was buried in oblivion under a wooden cross to Antwerp, the city of his birth. He was to be reburied there on the municipal cemetery Schoonselhof under a fitting memorial headstone. As frequently happens on the occasion of creating public monuments, more than six years passed before the original idea could be carried out – because of internal bickering and lack of financial means. This article focuses on Jozef Duysan, an admirer of the poet and an explicit Flemish militant, who played a crucial role in the concept and realisation of the initiative. In conclusion the article recounts how this man who has been practically completely forgotten now,  ventured into the deep waters of the collaboration during the Second World War, how he acted as director of the Arbeidsamt in Antwerp and how he was convicted after the war and lived for many years in hiding in that city.

AbstractThis essay examines the first detailed study of gifted African American youth: Lillian Steele Proctor's master's thesis from the late 1920s on Black children in Washington, DC. Unlike formative research on gifted children by educational psychologists, Proctor's investigation emphasized children's experiences at school, home, and community in determining their abilities, opportunities, and accomplishments. Proctor's work also anticipated African American intellectuals’ critiques of racist claims about intelligence and giftedness that would flourish in the 1930s. In focusing on the nation's capital, her investigation drew from a municipality with a high proportion of African American residents that was segregated by law. Proctor pointed directly to systemic racism as both contributing to the relative invisibility of gifted African American youth and in thwarting opportunities to realize their intellectual potential. In an environment of racial subordination and segregation, these gifted children found themselves excluded from cultural resources and educational opportunities.

By the beginning of the 1980s, deliberations on Islam and biomedical ethics started to assume a systematised and collective form through combining contributions from Muslim religious scholars and (Muslim) biomedical scientists. The original idea was that biomedical scientists would inform and educate Muslim religious scholars about the scientific and biomedical aspects of specific bioethical issues. After being equipped with sufficient information about these technical aspects, religious scholars would embark upon their normative role by construing the religio-ethical Islamic standpoint. This proposed strict division between the tasks of biomedical scientists and those of religious scholars did not prove to be viable during the gatherings which hosted both groups. Instead of confining themselves to the informative role, biomedical scientists infringed upon the normative role which is typically assigned to Muslim religious scholars alone. Besides presenting technical information, they also presented their own perspectives on how Islamic scriptures should be employed in order to develop the Islamic religio-ethical standpoints. This article explains how biomedical scientists moved from being just “informants” for the religious scholars to becoming eventually “co-muftis”.

The paper is dedicated to studying the oneiric text of S. Krzhizhanovsky’s novel “Sideline.” The topicality of the research is due to modern literary criticism interest in examining various aspects of artistic hypnology of Russian writers, as well as studying the works of “returned” authors, including S. Krzhizhanovsky. The realization specifics of the structural model of the literary dream in question can be presented as the following scheme: unconscious falling asleep – dream-journey – awakening by falling down. Different variants of artistic implementation of the main metaphors connected with dreaming are analyzed: “dream-life” in the image of briefcase-cushion and the image of “million-brained” dream of equality and brotherhood; “dream-death” in the image of the leader of a dream world, with the prevalence of thanatological vocabulary in the description of the city of dreams. The ways of imitating the space of real dreaming in the oneiric text of the novel are studied: awakening by falling, sudden muteness of characters, sudden change of location, etc. Also, the specifics of using the plot device of an unannounced dream is considered contributing to the illusion of “reality” of everything that happens to the character in the city of dreams. An attempt is made to consider the oneirotop of the novel in terms of classification by genre and function, plot and composition, images and esthetics and characters, as well as artistic functions of dreams in the literature (plot function, psychological function, idea, and symbolic function). The oneiric text of Krzhizhanosky’s novel “Sideline” is viewed as an artistic realization of the author’s original idea of the subconscious, dreamy origin of a communist utopia.
