The problem of the adaptation of first-year students of medical universities is an important issue of medical education in Ukraine. Adaptation of first-year students is a factor that seriously affects the educational activities of educational institutions. However, the issue of adaptation to training in medical schools remains poorly understood and unresolved. A study of the adaptation processes of first-year students of the medical faculty to the educational process in Vinnitsa National Medical University, based on the results of an anonymous survey of 200 students. For the majority of the students surveyed (46%), the adaptation process turned out to be a little problematic. For 28% of students, adaptation was not required, which was associated with studying in their hometown or having friends with senior students. 9% of the students surveyed did not determine the problem of adaptation, which is associated with the perception of the problem. 17% of the students surveyed indicated that the adaptation process is a significant problem that requires considerable effort and a long time. Important factors that influenced this were social status and place of residence for learning. The basic criteria that influenced adaptation were self-assessment and communication. It is these criteria that turned out to be higher for people who did not need adaptation, and significantly lower for students with problem adaptation. The results obtained may indicate promising areas for further research on the study and testing of methods for improving adaptation to the educational process by first-year students at a medical school.

The article deals with the first experience of Bogomolets National Medical University's transition from modular to session form of organization of educational process for ECTS. Organisation of educational process is one of the most powerful tool to use and fine-tuning which directly displays the integrative results of activities of the institution of higher education. Thus, it was a question of the need to create a culture of quality in educational environment of the university using changes to the learning method as a key lever. There were made changes to the educational-methodical complexes of disciplines according to the peculiarities of organization of training students of the first year. After that an internal audit of the materials developed by the Departments was carried out. The main directions of the transformation of the curricula concerned the following aspects: introduction of winter and summer exam sessions; reasonable and well-balanced choice of final control form for each discipline taking into account the competent approach; introduction of intermediate (semester) control in disciplines, the study of which lasts more than one semester, in form of a transfer credit (attestation). At the level of university management the foundation for the development of successive changes in the responsibility of the departments for the production of better teaching materials and for improving the quality of education for applicants, and in the responsibility of students for learning outcomes was laid. The article gives convincing evidence of the positive impact of organizational changes on qualitative indicators of training: quality of success, absolute success of the entire contingent of first-year students and average grade of first-year students (contract form of training). It is shown that the transformation of the organization of training allowed to reduce the percentage of students with academic debts and the number of hours they heve missed, for Ukrainian and foreign students. The transformation of the organization of education into Bogomolets National Medical University became an effective tool for improving the quality of educational services in accordance with the current social request.

Pedagogical design of the educational process is the main lever of improvement of specialist`s training in higher education. Special attention in this aspect should be paid to the curriculum of specialty, which defines the main vectors of the educational trajectory for education applicants, and provides opportunities for the implementation of the educational program`s competency-building tasks. The main differences between the curriculum of masters of medicine and the previous version - curriculum of specialists training in “General Medicine” are analyzed in the article. The main features of the structure of curricula for the physicians’ training in Poland are based on the example of the Warsaw Medical University and Collegium Medicum of the Jagiellonian University. On the basis of comparison and analysis conducted, the following changes in the design of masters of medicine curriculum in higher educational institutions (HEI) of Ukraine are predicted in accordance with the main trends in the European Higher Education Area. Increase of the classroom learning load in the general structure of credits up to 55% due to its growth at 2-5 courses is possible with the further design of curricula for physicians’ training. An increase in the number of class hours of production practice in the curriculum for the 4th year of studying – up to 82, for the 5th year – up to 102 hours without making changes in the number of credits is expedient. The volume of the lecture load is optimal to allocate from the largest one on the 1st year to the smallest – on 4th-5th years, with the simultaneous reduction of its quota in the structure of classroom hours. Taking into account the introduction of a united state qualification exam (USQE), increase in the number of credits for natural sciences up to 30% and simultaneous reduction in the number of credits for humanities (up to 2-3%) and to some degree – credits for professionally oriented disciplines (to 65-67%) can provide additional benefits to the design of curricula. The requirements of the higher education standard should be taken into account for adapting to the training of first-year students and improving of their training for both stages of external evaluation in the form of USQE, provided that a student-centered environment with better conditions is created.

The analysis of the results of the study of the features of functional adaptation of first-year students during the educational process upon admission to a specialized educational institution is carried out. The research was carried out on 37 first-year medical students who began their education in nursing. All study participants signed an informed consent to participate in the program and an agreement on the confidentiality of personal data. The criteria for the analysis were the indicators of functional adaptation of the cardiovascular system against the background of the influence of the growing intense psychoemotional stress and their regression after the completion of the examination session at the end of the first semester. A psychophysiological relationship was established between the increase and regression of emotional stress and changes in hemodynamic parameters, immediately before the exams and 7 days after the end of the examination session.
