O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a influência da temperatura e precipitação no desempenho agronômico de cultivares de soja nos municípios de Tangará da Serra e Diamantino, MT. Os experimentos foram realizados na safra 2012/13. O delineamento experimental foi blocos casualizados fatorial 2x4x6. Sendo dois locais, quatro épocas de semeadura (05/10/2012; 20/10/2012; 05/11/2012 e 20/11/2012) e seis cultivares de soja (AS7307, ANTA 82, TMG 1179, P98Y30, TMG 132 e M-SOY 9144), totalizando 48 tratamentos e três repetições. Foram realizadas as seguintes avaliações: número de vagens por planta, número de grãos por vagem, massa de mil grãos, produtividade e balanço hídrico climatológico sequencial diário. Os resultados obtidos foram submetidos à análise de variância, sendo as médias comparadas pelo teste Scott-Knott, a 5% de significância. A segunda época (20/10/12) foi a que proporcionou maior rendimento de grãos para a maioria das cultivares nos dois municípios estudados, sendo que as seis cultivares analisadas apresentaram variação na produtividade em função da época e local de cultivo. A quarta época de semeadura (05/11/12) foi a que mais influenciou na massa de mil grãos, devido a redução no ciclo das cultivares nessa época.Palavras-chave: Glycine max (L.) Merrill; épocas semeadura; temperatura; precipitação. SOYBEAN VARIETIES BASED ON CLIMATIC ELEMENTS IN THE MUNICIPALITIES OF TANGARÁ DA SERRA E DIAMANTINO, MT ABSTRACT: The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of temperature and precipitation in the agronomic performance of six soybean cultivars sown in four seasons in the municipalities of Tangará da Serra and Diamantino, MT. The field experiments were conducted in the 20012/13 crop season. The experimental design was a randomized block with factorial treatment 2x4x6. Being two locations, four sowing seasons (10/05/2012, 10/20/2012, 11/05/2012 and 11/20/2012) and six soybean cultivars (AS7307, ANTA 82, TMG 1179, P98Y30, TMG 132 and M-SOY 9144), totaling 48 treatments and three replications. The following evaluations were conducted: number of pods per plant, number of seeds per pod, thousand grain weight, productivity and daily sequential water balance. The results were subjected to analysis of variance and the means were compared by Scott-Knott test at 5% probability. The second sowing season (10/20/12) had the highest grain yield for most of the cultivars in both municipalities. The six cultivars analyzed had variation in productivity due to the sowing season and region of cultivation. The fourth sowing season (11/05/12) was the greatest influence in thousand grain weight, due to a reduction in the cultivars cycle in this season.Keywords: Glycine max (L.) O presente trabalho foi realizado com o objetivo de avaliar os teores de óleo e proteína dos grãos em cultivares de soja em função do retardamento da colheita e verificar a influência da época de semeadura sob condições de baixa latitude. No ano agrícola de 2015/16, foram realizados dois ensaios de competição de cultivares de soja em Palmas-TO, sendo o primeiro instalado em 17 de dezembro de 2015 e o segundo em 04 de janeiro de 2016. O delineamento experimental utilizado em cada época de semeadura foi de blocos casualizados com setenta tratamentos e cinco repetições. Os tratamentos foram dispostos em um esquema de parcelas subdivididas, representados por dez genótipos de soja (PRISMA, TMG 132 RR, M 8647 RR, M 8372 RR, BONUS, RAÇA, ST 820 RR, OPUS, TMG 1180 RR e M 9144 RR), nas parcelas, e por sete estádios de colheita dos grãos (R6, R7, R8, R8+7, R8+14, R8+21 e R8+28 dias), nas subparcelas. Houve efeito das épocas de plantio e dos estádios de colheita nos teores de óleo e proteína dos grãos. As cultivares apresentaram comportamentos diferenciados nas duas épocas de semeaduras, a cultivar M9144 RR obteve um crescente aumento nos teores de proteína na segunda época com retardamento da colheita dos grãos. A partir do estádio R8 de desenvolvimento, o teor de óleo nos grãos de três cultivares foi maior na primeira época de semeadura. Na segunda época, quatro cultivares mostram aumento no teor de óleo a partir de R8.Palavras-chave: Glycine Max L.; retardamento; composição química dos grãos. EPOCH AND AFTER DELAYED OF SOYBEAN HARVEST VISUALIZING OIL AND PROTEIN PRODUCTION  ABSTRACT: The present work was carried out with the objective of evaluate the oil and protein contents of the grains in soybean cultivars as a function of the harvest delay and to verify the influence of the sowing season under conditions in low latitude. In the agricultural year 2015/16, two competition trials of soybean cultivars were carried out in Palmas-TO, the first one being installed on December 17, 2015 and the second on January 4, 2016. The experimental design used at each time were randomized blocks with seventy treatments and five replications. The treatments were arranged in a scheme of subdivided plots, represented by ten soybean genotypes (PRISMA, TMG 132 RR, M 8647 RR, M 8372 RR, BONUS, RAÇA, ST 820 RR, OPUS, TMG 1180 RR e M 9144 RR, on the plots, and seven stages of grain harvest (R6, R7, R8, R8+7, R8+14, R8+21 e R8+28 dias) in the subplots. There was an effect of planting times and harvest stages on the oil and protein contents of the grains. The cultivars presented different behaviors in the two sowing seasons; the cultivar M9144 RR obtained an increasing increase in the protein content in the second season with grain harvest delay. From the R8 development stage, the oil content in the grains of three cultivars was higher in the first sowing season. Growth chamber and field experiments were conducted on Southern Manitoba soils, low in available soil phosphorus, to investigate the effects of various placement methods and levels of phosphorus fertilizer on soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merrill ’Maple Presto’). It was found that soybean responded well to applied phosphorus on low-P soil in growth chamber studies. In the first growth chamber experiment, P was applied in solution to 100%, 50%, 25%, 12.5% and 1% of the total soil volume. Dry matter yields, total phosphorus uptake and utilization of fertilizer P increased at each level of applied P as the size of the phosphated band was decreased. The results were partly attributed to greater chemical availability of P in the smaller zones of P fertilizer reaction. In a second growth chamber experiment, soybeans responded differently to phosphorus banded in six different locations. Placement of the fertilizer 2.5 cm directly below the seed was more effective in increasing dry matter yield, total phosphorus uptake and fertilizer P utilization than placement 2.5 cm and 5 cm away at the same depth or placement 5 cm below the seed, whether the band was directly below, 2.5 cm away or 5 cm away. Soybean yield responses in the field were greatest with P banded 2.5 cm directly below the seed on low-P soils. Placement of P 2.5 cm below the seed resulted in grain yields that were 64% and 50% higher (at the two sites) than those obtained in control plots. Sidebanding P, 2.5 cm below and 2.5 cm away from the seed at the same level of application, improved grain yields of control plots by 40% and 39%. Seed placement and broadcast applications of P were not as effective in increasing grain yields. Broadcasting P in fall or in spring at rates of up to 52.38 kg P/ha did not result in significantly higher grain yields than those obtained in control plots. Placement of P in contact with the seed appeared to reduce seedling emergence, resulting in depressed yields when 52.38 kg P/ha were applied. Key words: Glycine max L. Merrill, ’Maple Presto’

Soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr.) cultivars were tested for yield at various populations in hillplots that had plants compactly clumped and in comparative hill and row plots. Results indicated that thinning to a uniform stand should be worthwhile in cases where population varies and that selection in hills for material to be grown in rows could be from 43 to 95% as effective as direct selection in row plots.Key words: Glycine max, soybean cultivars, plant density, yield, hill plots, selection

Root traits are essential for optimising nutrient and water absorption and anchorage. However, changes in root traits and the contribution of root-to-shoot growth and development of soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr.) across a century of breeding are poorly documented. In this study, we adopted a grafting technique, using 55 cultivars released in the three main soybean-production regions in China as rootstocks in a pot experiment and 24 cultivars from the Yellow-Huai-Hai Valley (YHH) region as rootstocks in a field experiment, with cv. Zigongdongdou as the common scion. Changes in soybean roots, including dry weight (DW) of roots, lateral root number (LRN) and taproot length (TRL), and their contribution to shoot development and biomass formation, including shoot DW, plant height and node number, were evaluated under optimal conditions in 2011. Aboveground traits declined with year of release in the YHH region and did not vary over time in the northern Heilongjiang province and mid-south Heilongjiang region except for shoot DW. The root traits root DW, LRN and TRL were similar over years of release in the pot and field experiments. The results suggest that the newer cultivars have lesser shoot growth and root capacity but the same amount of root growth as older cultivars. Root traits did not change during selection, suggesting that improvement in soybean root traits should be an aim in future breeding.

Westag 97 has larger capacity of Cd accumulation in roots which prevents Cd from translocating into stems and leaves; conversely, AC Hime has smaller capacity of Cd accumulation in roots; more Cd is transported into stems and leaves. The different capacity of Cd in roots between Westag 97 and AC Hime causes the different Cd concentration in seeds. Meanwhile, according to the different expression levels of RSTK, ISCP, and H+-ATPase between Westag 97 and AC Hime, RSTK may be involved in transporting Cd into stems and leaves; H+-ATPase may be correlated to the capacity of Cd accumulation in roots; and Cd caused some changes of fundamental life process which leaded to the different expression patterns of ISCP between Westag 97 and AC Hime.

Soybean (Glycine max L. Merill) can produce high-N residues that may benefit subsequent corn (Zea mays L.) production, but the degree of benefit is often unpredictable and may be related to tillage methods. This study investigated the effects of conventional-tillage (CT) and no-tillage (NT) on fertilizer replacement values for corn in a corn-soybean rotation. Field experiments were conducted for two growing seasons on two soils, a Ste. Rosalie clay (Humic Gleysol), and an Ormstown silty clay (Humic Gleysol). Continuous corn, corn following soybean, soybean following corn, continuous soybean, and three levels of fertilizer N (0, 90, 180 and 0, 20, and 40 kg N ha−1 for corn and soybean, respectively) were compared. Tillage did not effect yield or N uptake consistently. Corn grain yields and N uptake were greater following soybean than following corn. Soybean provided N fertilizer credits ranging from 40 to 150 kg N ha−1, which was greater than the residual NO3 in the soil prior to planting. Credits were greater in the year with higher corn yields and lower previous winter precipitation resulting in greater NO3 carryover. Tillage effects on N credits from soybean differed between the sites. Consequently, N contributions of soybean to corn could not be related to tillage method or soil type. Four Japanese soybean (Glycine max (L) Merr.) cultivars (Fujiotome (PI 360836), Misaodaizu (PI 360839), Nezumisaya (PI 360841) and Honiku 65 (PI 360837)) were evaluated for Rps alleles conferring resistance for Phytophthora megasperma (Drechs.) f. sp. glycinea (Hildeb.) Kuan & Erwin. Fujiotome contains Rps1-a and Rps5; Misaodaizu contains Rsp1-c and Rps3; and Nezumisaya contains Rps1-b and a new allele, designated Rps? (Nezumisaya). These sets of experiments were conducted at Faculty of Agriculture Sebelas Maret University and the Central Experiment Station of Agricultural Faculty, Sebelas Maret University at Jumantono, Karanganyar, Central Java. The experiments were conducted under greenhouse, laboratory and field condition for each year, while the duration of this research was for two years. The specific objectives of the experiments were: (i) to determine the changes of some morpho-physiological characteristics of water stress soybean and those of unstressed plants at different growth stages; (ii) to evaluate relationship between morpho-physiological traits associated with water stress resistance and yield of soybean. In this study consists some experiments, there are: (i) about response of some soybean cultivars to water stress in screen house and field condition; (ii) about germination response of some soybean cultivars in different concentration 0f PEG; (iii) a bout recovery survival and recovery of soybean seedlings after heat treatment. The plants were well watered before thetreatment. Based on the result of the experiments, the following conclusion could be made: (i) water stress reduced growth, yield and yield components 0 f a II soybean c ultivars used; (li) PEG induced water stress resulted in lower germination, shorter root and shoot length, and increase root-shoot ratio; (iii) the ability of plants to recovery after heat stress have low correlation with drought resistance in this experiment; (iv) the determination of root-shoot ratio in the seedling stage was shown to be suitable screening techniques used to study water stress resistance.© 200'3Jurusan Biologi FMIPA UNS SurakartaKey words: soybean (Glycine max L.), cultivars, water stress.

In the absence of Bradyrhizobium japonicum populations in the soil, yields of field-grown soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merrill) usually respond to inoculation with B. japonicum. The objective of this research was to determine the relationship between numbers of B. japonicum per seed in inoculants and soybean nodulation and yield. A total of six field experiments were conducted in 1989 and 1990 on new soybean soils. In dilution trials, Grip inoculant was applied to provide approximately 106, 105, 104, and 103B. japonicum per seed at two locations in 1989. Nodule number and mass, as well as seed yield, increased curvilinearly upward with increasing log10 most probable numbers (MPNs) of B. japonicum. The yield response curve was best fit by a cubic equation, which accounted for 97% of the variation in yield. Seed yields increased 19% (1.83 to 2.13 Mg/ha) from 105 to 106B. japonicum per seed. In field experiments involving 8 commercial inoculants in 1989 and 10 in 1990, and conducted at two locations in each year, responses to increasing log MPNs in the inoculants also were concave upwards and cubic. In the two years, 78 and 46% of the yield variation was accounted for by log MPN per seed. Increasing MPN per seed from 105 to 106 improved yields in first-time fields by an average of 24%, indicating the present minimum standard of 105B. japonicum per seed should be increased.
