The right to play is crucial for the overall development of children. Several studies highlight the need to have time and space to play, especially at school where children spend much of their time. Unfortunately, in formal education the obsession with academic achievements sidelines and ignores the importance of play. The neglection of play had already reached a critical stage before the pandemic, so data are needed to realize how the right to play in school is presently affected. This paper aims to understand children’s play experience in primary education during the pandemic. It investigates what activities children participated in and what materials were used, and provides insight into the social interactions between peers. Furthermore, children’s quality of life is explored. A group of 370 Portuguese children answered a questionnaire on play and social interactions, alongside with Peds 4.0TM on health-related quality of life (HRQOL). The results showed that recess still emerges as a significant element of children’s daily lives, but COVID-19 has brought limitations on play experiences and peer-interaction. It might also have impacted HRQOL, especially in emotional functioning. Since play, health and well-being are closely connected, play opportunities at school are crucial in helping children to thrive in the pandemic, and should be invested in.

The concept of animal welfare has been widely studied and discussed in recent years. This is a science, which seeks an improvement in the quality of life of animals, ensuring that they have the right to their 5 basic freedoms respected. Animal welfare practices seek to have animals express their natural behavior, even when they are in captivity, ensuring their physical and psychological health. Such techniques help in the adaptation of the animal to the environment, especially in captive animals and in breeding. There is a direct relationship between the implementation of animal welfare practices and the ability of them to adapt and have a good quality of life in the environment in which it was inserted. The growing increase in ornamental bird breeding and as pets has revealed the need to study and ensure welfare practices in the rearing of these animals. One of the techniques used to ensure animal welfare is the implementation of different types of environmental enrichments. Environmental enrichment seeks through different techniques and materials to provide more attractive and stimulating environments to animals, allowing interaction between animals and animal-environment, enabling them to enjoy and explore the environment, optimizing the available spaces, providing opportunities for the development of behaviors and natural abilities of the species, reducing the stress caused by space limitation and absence of stimuli. The objective of this work was to relate animal welfare in the implementation of environmental enrichment in two breeding stake of geese and mallards, one for ornamental and domestic purposes, birds being reared as pets. In particular describe the creation, report the implementation of three types of environmental enrichment: food, physical and social, and response of birds after the implementation of this technique of animal welfare promotion. The results of the implementation of food, physical and social environmental enrichment, to improve the well-being of birds, were verified in both breedings, obtaining a positive result. There was an improvement in the behavior of the animals, which is closer to the natural in both groups, attesting to improvement in quality of life and providing physical and psychological well-being to birds.

Abstract INTRODUCTION Ostomies have substantial impacts on many aspects of cancer survivors’ daily lives. We sought to describe how stoma location may affect clothing style, ostomy appliance leakage, skin irritation around the stoma, weight changes after ostomy surgery, and health-related quality of life (HRQOL). METHODS A pooled dataset was obtained from three multi-site studies that had used the modified City of Hope Quality of Life-Ostomy questionnaire to measure HRQOL and ostomy-specific concerns in cancer survivors with ostomies. Questions pertaining to stoma location, clothing issues, weight change since ostomy surgery, and HRQOL were analyzed. Ostomy bag change frequency was assessed in two of the three studies. Respondents were categorized by self-reported stoma location quadrant: lower left side, upper left side, lower right side, or upper right side. Predicted means for HRQOL and individual items were generated for every stoma location, adjusting for sex, ostomy type (fecal or urinary), and body mass index (BMI). RESULTS Of 607 cancer survivors included in this analysis, abdominal quadrant ostomy groups were: 138 (23%) upper left, 298 (49%) lower left, 51 (8%) upper right, and 120 (20%) lower right. The majority of participants (>50%) reported changing their clothing styles due to their ostomies. Cancer survivors with ostomies on the lower right side had significantly more weight gain after ostomy surgery (p=0.02) and reported more frequent ostomy bag changes or emptying over a 24-hour period. Overall HRQOL did not vary by stoma location, with predicted means of 6.90 to 7.18 (out of 10). Survivors with ostomies on the right half of the abdomen reported statistically significantly different QOL scores spiritual well-being (p=0.031), sleep disruptions (p=0.03), satisfaction with appearance (p<0.001) and interference with social activities (p=0.005) compared to survivors with ostomies on the left half of the abdomen. DISCUSSION Stoma location is associated with HRQOL, ostomy bag usage, and difficulties related to adjusting to the ostomy, which may affect long-term survivorship and QOL. Moreover, even after controlling for ostomy type, there were sustained significant differences in ostomy-related QOL associated with stoma location. Our results indicate that stoma location should be considered when designing interventions for cancer survivors with ostomies.

ABSTRACTThis work is essentially based on a previous study which the author completed for the Quebec Department of Tourism Fish and Game. It identifies the tendencies which influence the supply and demand of recreational services offered to seniors. This work of nine well-structured chapters focusses on Quebec but does not ignore the main Canadian, American, or even European research in this area. The first three chapters take the reader into the heart of the problem: the study of leisure. Chapters 4 to 8 deal respectively with physical, sociocultural educational, social and tourism activities. The last chapter deals with the impact of leisure on the quality of life and the use of social-sanitary services. We learn that recreational activities contribute largely to the well-being of seniors. As part of the general conclusion, the tendencies that most influence the organization of recreation services are synthetically reviewed and summarized.

Introduction. The fundamental principles of inclusive development are equality of opportunity, availability of all types of resources, equality and fairness in the distribution of income and benefits. The main message of inclusive recreational nature management is the creation of equal opportunities for the use of natural recreational resources and areas for the well-being and quality of life of people. Realization of priorities of the organization of recreational activity is not possible without the developed institutional maintenance. Defining the leading role of state authorities and civil society representatives, which establish a system of laws, rights and responsibilities, "rules of the game" and develop a set of mechanisms for their close institutionalized interaction, it is necessary to form institutions within which public representatives reconcile contradictions and determine common interests. Aim and tasks. The purpose of the study is to study the state and develop directions for the development of institutional support for inclusive tourism and recreational nature. Results. The article examines the state of institutional support for inclusive tourist and recreational nature management in Ukraine. The essence and its content are determined, the documents according to which it is determined are analyzed. The domestic legislative and normative-legal base of regulation of nature use in general and recreational in particular is studied, where separate principles of inclusive development are laid down. At the same time, a significant layer of problems remains unresolved, including the formation of new principles, forms of management to prevent the degradation of natural recreational resources, their diversity and sustainability. The interaction of formal institutions and institutes (legislative and normative base, system of state regulation, bodies of state administration and local self-government, public organizations, approved norms and norms of nature use) and informal institutions has to promote inclusive recreational nature use. Conclusions. The study of the state and directions of development of institutional support of inclusive recreational nature management allowed to determine that the implementation of an inclusive approach requires: changing the structure and stereotype of recreational needs of people and restructuring the economy of recreational nature management; reducing economic and social inequality of people to meet their recreational needs and ensuring equal access to valuable natural recreational resources.

Abstract. To date, few studies have focused on perceived overprotection from the perspective of people with dementia (PwD). In the present examination, the association of perceived overprotection in PwD is examined as an autonomy-restricting factor and thus negative for their mental well-being. Cross-sectional data from the prospective DYADEM study of 82 patient/partner dyads (mean age = 74.26) were used to investigate the association between overprotection, perceived stress, depression, and quality of life (QoL). The analyses show that an overprotective contact style with PwD has a significant positive association with stress and depression, and has a negative association with QoL. The results emphasize the importance of avoiding an overprotective care style and supporting patient autonomy.
