The effect of prenatal administration of different doses of cortisone, corticosterone, dexamethasone, triamcinolone and prednisolone on the fetus and its palatal development was studied. All the glucocorticoids, except cortisone, produced cleft palate in the fetuses. Both the total frequency and morphologically different types of cleft palate were related to the dose of the teratogen. Triamcinolone appeared to be more potent than other glucocorticoid in inducing cleft palate. An association was noted between fetal growth inhibition, the dose of the teratogen and the frequency and type of cleft palate.

The effect of different doses of hydrocortisone, administered at various times during gestation, on the fetal hamster and its palatal development was studied. Both the frequency of cleft palate and that of resorption depended upon the dose of hydrocortisone and the time of its administration. Two peaks in the incidence of cleft palate were observed, which appeared to be due to inhibition of different events. Incidence of morphologically different types of cleft palate was related to the doses and gestational time of hydrocortisone treatment. A close association was observed between the frequency of cleft palate and fetal growth retardation and between the latter and the dose and time of drug administration. It was suggested that maternal physiology and the placental barrier may play a crucial role in cleft palate induction.

BackgroundDespite the increasing use of immersive technology (IT) in ophthalmology, the effectiveness of this approach compared to other teaching practices is unclear. This systematic review aimed to determine the value of IT to teach students ophthalmic skills and whether it can supplement or replace conventional teaching practices.MethodsA systematic search was performed of CENTRAL, MEDLINE, EMBASE, ERIC and PsychINFO databases. Randomised controlled trials comparing IT interventions versus (1) no training, (2) standard training, (3) different types of IT interventions, (4) different doses of IT interventions were eligible for inclusion.ResultsSeven trials involving 177 participants were included. IT offered some benefit compared to standard training as most trials demonstrated evidence of learning represented by composite performance score and performance time. Repetitive training with IT displayed similar results.ConclusionIT appears to improve the ophthalmic skill of healthcare trainees and should be considered as a supplement to training.

Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is the most effective therapy of menopausal symptoms for perimenopausal and menopausal women. When HRT is individually tailored women gain maximum advantages and the risk are minimized. There are different types of hormones with different doses and different routes of delivery exist. . The use of HRT is an individual decision which women can only make once she has been given correct information and advice from healthcare professionals. HRT should be recommended in women with premature ovarian insufficiency with advice to continue until the average age of menopause at 51.4 years. This review item promotes confidence in prescribing HRT in most symptomatic women. Prescribing HRT in women with relative contraindication where evidence is limited. Quality of life is priority. Multidisciplinary approach may be necessary and informed written consent documented.J Bangladesh Coll Phys Surg 2018; 36(1): 26-32

The cytological studies provide more information regarding the response of a genotype to the particular mutagen and also provide chances to select desirable characters. The seeds of pigeon pea were subjected to different doses and concentrations of gamma rays and ethyl methane sulphonate (EMS). The effects of different mutagenic treatments on mitosis chromosomal behavior have been studied in both the mutagens. Different types of mitotic aberrations like stickiness, precocious movement, bridge, clumping of chromosome and laggards, etc., were observed in all the treatments. However, the gamma rays treatments proved to be more effective in inducing mitotic aberrations as compared to EMS. The frequency of laggard was high when compared to other mitotic aberrations. The reduction in mitotic index and relative deviation rate frequency were observed with increase in doses and conc. of both the mutagenic treatments and gamma rays were found to be more effective than EMS treatments.

: Nanoparticles are being extensively studied these days to grab more knowledge on how they can be used in various fields to increase the yields and hence be beneficial for biotic components of the ecosystem. Chemicals being used in agriculture have caused a lot of damage to the soil and water quality along with the crop plants, ultimately affecting human health severely. Better alternatives are thus required to get higher yields with a better quality of crop plants that enhance human health. A variety of nanoparticles exists in nature, while others have been manufactured accidentally or engineered purposefully. These can play many beneficial roles in the crop plants, increasing the yield of crops and quality of the grains. They can be applied at various stages and in different doses. The effect they exhibit would be dependent on many factors. Different nanoparticles have diverse effects on different plants. Some nanoparticles may be beneficial to one species of crop plant and disadvantageous to the other one. Therefore, an elaborative study is required on all the types of nanoparticles exhibiting their advantageous and disadvantageous impacts on different species of crop plants for the dose and stage in which they have been applied. This review explains the different types of nanoparticles categorized based on their manufacture and the different effects they cause in different plant species. More research and knowledge is yet to be obtained before using nanoparticles in crop plants since the way they affect human health is a serious matter of concern.
