Abstract. The article is devoted to the research of linguodidactic potential of counting-out rhymes in classes of Ukrainian as a foreign language. Now there are many works in Ukrainian methodology of teaching language to foreign students concerning the formation of a set of texts for studying purposes. The authors of selected scientific articles suggest including folklore texts (fairy tales, songs, legends, proverbs and sayings, tongue twisters) in the teaching of the Ukrainian language. The aim of our article is to explore the place and role of the counting-out rhyme as a supplementary text for foreign students of beginner level. For this purpose, we describe the definition of the term «counting-out rhyme», define the linguistic and methodological criteria for selecting texts and how they should be presented to foreign audiences. Results of the research. The counting-out rhyme is a genre of children's playful folklore, a small-form poetic text with a clear rhyme-rhythmic structure. For to study Ukrainian as a foreign language at the beginning stage not all the texts of counting-out rhymes are suitable, but only those that folklorist G. Vinogradov called «chislovka» or «proper chislovka". This type of counting-out rhymes have cardinal numbers and ordinal numbers as a part of their structure. We consider that the main criteria for selecting and presenting texts of this genre as educational units should be: 1) a simple structure, clear and understandable content of the text; 2) the common vocabulary of counting-out rhymes, which corresponds as much as possible to communicative topics and grammatical material of the beginner level of Ukrainian language learning; 3) the texts of the counting rhymes should be chosen with the aim of practising certain speech skills and abilities; 4) limited amount of the material. In classes with foreign students, we primarily use counting-out rhymes to introduce the category of numerals and to teach counting. Children's folklore play texts act as very important supplementary linguistic material. Rational, accurate counting (mostly from one to ten) and the rhythm and rhythmics of the short poetic text help a foreign student to learn to count in Ukrainian quickly and easily. In addition, the expressive reading of counting-out rhymes helps to improve the phonetic aspect of foreign language speech - clear pronunciation of separate sounds, intonation, accents, training of rhythm, speed of speech. Working with the texts of counting-out rhymes in UFL classes also actualises word meanings within the boundaries of communicative topics of the first year of language learning, enriches vocabulary, and optimises the rapid memorisation of typical lexical-grammatical constructions with their subsequent inclusion in the active vocabulary. Moreover, tasks with counting-out rhymes engage an element of a game in the learning process, making the lesson more exciting and interesting. Conclusions. The results of the analysis show that the counting-out rhymes have linguodidactic potential and can be used as supplementary teaching material in UFL classes (beginner level).

Teachers of English as a foreign language in Taiwan are challenged to organize multi-dimensional language activities for foreign students coming from ASEAN countries, including Japan, the Philippines, South Korea, and Vietnam. With different cultural backgrounds, these students have different prior knowledge of Taiwanese culture, and, because of the similarities and differences between Taiwan and these countries, it is meaningful to explore the development of globalization with the students, who are learning both English and Chinese. The different historical backgrounds, various cultural and religious differences, and social conditions, such as gender relationships in working places, are significant topics for class discussions. When teachers serve as discussion facilitators, they encourage students to express their own multi-identities and expectations for the exchange program. Most interesting of all is to find out about their own short-term and long-term career goals. 32 foreign students from the Philippines and Vietnam were recruited for research. Questionnaires were used to assess their foreign language learning motivation and strategies, as well as to discover the learning environment they prefer and their globalization prospects. It was found that multi-lingual language policies for promoting globalization in higher education are very likely to influence the success of foreign student study in Taiwan.

The article describes the features of the inophones’ sociocultural adaptation. One of the factors of the foreigner’s sociocultural adaptation – mastering the Ukrainian (Russian) language has been considered. The forms of work with foreign students to be helpful in their successful sociocultural adaptation have been proposed. The activity of the teacher is to manage the organization of active knowledge of the realities by the foreigners. It is also worth attracting foreigners to certain educational activities, excursions; organizing the concert programs both as observers and participants; arranging visits to various events where you can communicate with native Ukrainian (Russian) speakers. As a result of linguistic education, the students can and should be formed: readiness to comprehend a socio-cultural portrait of the country, the target language, and understanding of the native speakers; ethnic, racial and social tolerance, language tact and socio-cultural politeness; propensities to find non-violent ways to resolve conflicts. So, when learning foreign languages, the enrichment of foreign students’ individual experience of communication with another linguistic culture and the result of foreign language training are positive changes in the overall structure of students’ behavior. The author is convinced that the systematic, purposeful teachers’ work to overcome adaptation difficulties is the key to the successful adaptation of foreign students, the further development of each student as a person and future specialist. The better the Ukrainian (Russian) language is learned, the more adaptive it is, the more students adapt to the new socio-cultural environment, the better and more successful is the process of joining a new educational system and the sphere of interethnic communication with representatives of different countries. Prospects for further research are to find the forms and methods of work that will facilitate the acquisition of a foreign student to a new environment. The teacher must create certain conditions for foreigners to comprehend the linguistic material and learn to participate in the dialogue communication of the society in an active way.

The article deals with the issue of the language adaptation of foreign students who have left the preparatory faculty and begun their studies in Russian in the first year of the main faculty of the Russian University. The main problem is the lack of knowledge of Russian by foreign students to understand and take notes at lectures, to actively participate in seminars. The article identifies and discusses the main difficulties faced by foreigners while studying in Russia and the reasons of their appearance, analyzes the conditions of training of foreign students at the preparatory faculty and the real results of this training, the main of which is the discrepancy between what foreign students know and are capable of and what they need to know and be able to, becoming the first-year students of a Russian University. Most first-year foreign students find it difficult to study at the same level with Russian students, so they need the support and understanding of not only teachers of Russian as a foreign language, but also teachers of other subjects. It is noted that teachers who don’t specialize in teaching Russian as a foreign language can’t and don’t want to adequately assess the level of knowledge of a foreign student and help them if needed. The article proposes a possible solution to this problem.

The purpose of the paper is to summarize and present teaching Ukrainian as a foreign language in higher educational institutions of Ukraine. The main focus lies in the most modern methods of teaching Ukrainian for foreign students of different nationalities who attain higher education in Ukraine. The author reviewed the development of the concepts of emotional intelligence and modern approaches to the determination of the nature and forms of manifestation of empathy in individuals. Empathy is a principal social emotion; in its most general form it is defined as the individual's ability to react emotionally and to respond to other people's experiences. The author emphasizes the feasibility of accounting empathy as part of emotional intelligence, which is key to successful study of the Ukrainian language for foreigners. The value of socio-psychological training as a means to enhance students’ empathy is proven. Emotional intelligence techniques for the formation and development of empathy culture are presented. The formation of students’ emphatically culture promotes social and psychological training, thus enhancing competence in the field of communication and interpersonal skills to acquire. Socio-psychological training covers various methods, such as business and role-playing, discussions and more. It involves the acquisition of psychological and pedagogical knowledge in communication, effective communication skills, for example, to get in touch, listen, persuade others and to form attitudes necessary for successful communication, such as readiness to consider the problem from another point of view; development of abilities of self-examination, to understand other students, and correction system of relations with the outside world. Other techniques appropriate to apply during the stimulation of student culture are widely known such as self-disclosure, emotional response, personal contact (physical, visual, verbal, plastic, object-efficient) jokes, humor and others. The latter are very effective in removing emotional stress, eliminating aggressive or sad states of stress in relationships, and help enhance mental activity. Jokes activate distraction and relax empathy. The development of emotional intelligence in the student regulates that individual’s abilities and traits that are responsible whether the impact of emotional phenomena will be constructive or destructive behavior for the student. Developing emotional intelligence is inextricably linked to the communicative approach to language learning. The teacher should provide comfortable and effective communication between students in class, using the methods above, techniques and creating a positive atmosphere that promotes cooperation and helps develop confidence in students. Holistic education must involve the unity of intellectual and emotional areas. Also, this work is devoted to the analysis of existing classifications of dialogues, consideration of advantages and disadvantages of some of their types, to the coverage of methods of extracurricular work with students, their detailed analysis, and identification of their pluses and minuses. The model of the use of more appropriate combinations of types of dialogues is presented in order to achieve the most productive result in language learning. A model of formation of foreign communicative competence is offered. The practice of the proposed methods should allow students to unleash their potential, break language barriers, expand vocabulary, improve pronunciation, and most importantly – increase self-confidence.

The issue of teaching Russian as a foreign language in a technical university in Russia is considered. The relevance is due both to the increase in the number of foreign students in Russian universities and the need for them to master the Russian language as soon as possible in order to continue their studies in Russian. The aim of the work is to describe the features of mastering Russian scientific vocabulary, the terminology of technical disciplines, in particular, the language of mathematics by foreign students studying at the preparatory department of the Tomsk State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering (Building). A linguistic experiment was carried out, when students were offered to write a dictation, replete with scientific vocabulary. The results, as well as violations of pronunciation and spelling of terms have been described, since the main difficulty is precisely the study of the vocabulary of the scientific style of speech. The peculiarities of deviations from the standard were also identified, structured, and described. Options for the implementation of the program for the development of normative writing skills by foreign students were proposed. Rather difficult is the definition of the word boundary, writing letters at the end of a word, the perception of hissing consonants, paired consonants (unvoiced – voiced), soft – hard; determination of the gender of a noun (in most languages of the former Soviet Union there is no category of gender). This requires the necessity of elaborate thinking over the exercise types and their sequence in accordance with students’ needs. This work continues a series of methodical publications, the main aim of which is improving the quality of foreign student education in technical universities of Russia.

The acceptance of English as the lingua franca of the academic world has triggered the flourishing of different approaches to promote the learning of English as a foreign language in higher education. Under the umbrella of supranational regulations (as in the case of Europe), the promise of linguistic gains runs parallel with the necessity to attract international students, to promote the international and institutional profile for the universities, and to enhance employability for graduates. At the university of Córdoba, studies or courses taught through a foreign language are part of a larger university policy, and the decisions were based on clear definition of content and language learning outcomes and human and material resources available. This chapter describes the implementation of bilingual programs at this university, offering a picture of the challenges and problems that emerged and of the initiatives that were adopted.

The interesting finding of this research is the model of teaching Arabic for foreign student developed by Malik Sauud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. In the past, the teaching Arabic for foreign student or non-native in Arab mostly used direct method, while in this research it is found out that there are five important things in teaching Arabic language. The first, the Arabic language teaching needs specific dormitory for the foreign students so that all of the program can be applied exclusively. Second, the direct method , is still applied completed with communicative approach and various strategies. Third, the use of multi-media is considered important eventough the tutors are native speaker. This also shows that teacher-centered has shifted into student-centered sothat teachers take role as facilitator. Fourth, the materials presented are suited with Arabic culture and the culture of students’ origin. Fifth, the phase of evaluation is considered most important to measure the success of learning Arabic language. The shift of language learning model of Arabic language in Arab country as applied in Malik Sauud University, Riyadh, Arab Saudi can be a new trend in developing Arabic language and culture teaching learning.
Keywords: Ta’liim, Jami’ah Al-Malik Sauud

The article deals with the use of modern computer technologies in the lexical skills formation in primary school students at the foreign language lessons. The work describes the author’s computer-based methods, which include a developed website with a various list of exercises and tasks at the stage of using vocabulary (variant-situational stage): exercises for controlling of vocabulary (correlate words with translation, connect pairs of synonyms or antonyms, and find a definition of a foreign word), thematic crosswords and interactive testing. Also within the framework of the website, we developed a descriptive electronic dictionary with hyperlinks to the context. Various children’s fairy tales were offered as contexts in English. In order to confirm the research hypothesis, an experiment was conducted. The results of the experiment allowed the authors to justify the use of modern ICT at foreign language lessons in order to increase the level of lexical skills of primary school students.
