Fish is highly susceptible to deterioration without any preservative or processing measures and requires proper handling and preservation to increase its shelf life. Smoked fish is traditionally processed by fish through an open process of hot smoked. Smoked fish process in Indonesia, especially in Papua, is still carried out traditionally with capital and small business scale so that the use of tools is still simple. The aim of this research was to study the proximate composition of smoked yellowfin fish, which were taken from different producers in Youtefa Market, Jayapura City, Papua. The analysis on smoked yellowfin fish applied of proximate analysis (moisture level, ash level, fat level, and protein level). The result of this research showed that the highest moisture level was EK.K sample with 67.17%.  The highest value of ash level was EK.T1 sample with 8.15%. The highest of fat and protein level were EK.K sample, with 18.63% and 6.42%, respectively.  Key words: Smoked yellowfin, proximate analysis.

The study evaluated effects of different processing methods (charcoal smoking, electric and gas drying) on proximate composition and stability status in fillets of Clarias gariepinus. The stability indices were evaluated after 60-days storage of the processed fish. Standard methods were employed in all the analyses. The results showed that electric-dried fillets recorded the highest protein content (16.97±0.12%), the lowest water activity (0.49±0.05mg/100g), the highest water resumption (60%) at room temperature and the lowest TVB-N value of 5.0±0.01mg/100g. Proximate analysis revealed that smoked fillets had the lowest protein content of 11.30±0.08%, the highest lipid (6.99±0.15%), the highest water activity 0.71±0.14 and the lowest water resumption at room temperature (36.5%). Fish fillets processed with gas oven had intermediate values of various indices tested when compared with other methods. This study was conducted to prepare and evaluate the quality and shelf life ofsmoked spotted snakehead, taki (Channapunctatus) stored at ambient temperature(30-35ºC) and refrigeration temperature (4ºC) after treating with no salt (T1) and 20%salt (T2). Sensory assessment, initial and final proximate analysis, TVB-N value andmicrobial analysis (SPC) were carried out for the smoked products stored for differentstorage periods. According to sensory assessment, smoked taki remained inacceptable condition for 4 and 6 days in T1 and T2, respectively while stored atambient temperature. However, at refrigeration temperature, smoked taki remained inacceptable condition for 59 and 74 days in T1 and T2, respectively. Biochemicalassessment of smoked product showed that protein, lipid and ash content increaseddue to significant loss of moisture during smoking of fish. No appreciable changes inproximate composition were observed for any of the two storage conditions. Valuesof TVB-N content of T1 showed rapid increase in comparison to T2 during storage.Microbial load (SPC) of smoked fish decreased due to the smoking processcompared to the initial microbial load of fresh fishes but increased with the increaseof storage period. Considering all the quality parameters it was found that smokedfish in treatment T2 maintained its excellent quality and longer shelf-life in bothstorage conditions than treatment T1. Res. Kata kunci: bahan bakar, biomassa, higher heating value, nilai error, proksimat  Abstract – Biomass is a renewable energy that is very easy to find, environmentally friendly, and quite economical. The existence of biomass can be used as a substitute for fossil fuels, both oil, natural gas, and coal. Analyzes are needed as a basis for biomass as energy such as proximate and heat. The most critical analysis to assess biomass as fuel is the calorific value or higher heating value (HHV). HHV is experimentally measured using a bomb calorimeter, but this measurement is less effective because it requires time and high costs. Research on the prediction of HHV based on proximate analysis has been carried out so that it can simplify and save costs needed by researchers. In this paper, the evaluation of equations is discussed to predict HHV based on proximate analysis on biomass-based on data from previous studies. HHV prediction values using five equations were evaluated with 25 proximate biomass data from previous studies, then compared based on error value to get the best predictions. The analysis shows that Equation A predicts best in 7 biomass, B in 6 biomass, C in 6 biomass, D in 5 biomass, and E in 1 biomass. Abstract Exploring extractable phytochemicals from locally adapted sisal plant vegetation vary seasonally at different locations. This study elaborated proximate composition and phytochemical heterogeneity in sisal due to varying environmental conditions analyzed from five districts, i.e., Chakwal, Khushab, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, and Layyah in Punjab, Pakistan. Extensive surveying and plant sampling across two years 2017-18 and 2018-19, during mid-spring, summer, autumn, and winter seasons were carried out for understanding the seasonal impact on sisal. The present study was designed in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) and analyzed considering seasonal, yearly, and locational impact. The spatial differences in phytochemicals concentration were strongly associated with environmental conditions prevailing in different seasons. Autumn season reflected saponins, tannins, and flavonoids in higher concentrations during 2018-19 while steroids and terpenoids were higher during spring 2018-19. While Spatio-temporal variations in the proximate analysis were more apparent in different samples collected from different districts. Data recorded for the Khushab district and autumn season reflected the higher composition of a proximate analysis and phytochemical contents as compared to other seasons. Overall, the spatial differences in phytochemicals concentration were strongly associated with soils and environmental conditions prevailing in different seasons in selected districts.

Melanocortin 1 Receptor (MC1R) is considered to be the main gene controlling the production of eumelanin or phaeomelanin, resulting in black or red coat colour of cattle. The recessive red allele, e, codes for a nonfunctional receptor, which does not bind the agonist alpha-melanocyte stimulating hormone (α-MSH), allowing for the production of phaeomelanin, or red pigment, whereas the dominant ED allele binds α-MSH leading to the production of eumelanin. We hypothesized that black cattle would have more α-MSH bound to MC1R, which could result in more α-MSH binding to the appetite suppressing receptor, Melanocortin 4 Receptor. We genotyped 328 crossbred steers of various colours that were purchased at weaning and fed until slaughter. Black cattle of ED/ED or ED/e genotype had increased back fat and required significantly fewer days (15-25) on feed to reach a target fat level for slaughter than the red cattle. Red cattle of e/e genotype were found to have a significantly larger longissimus dorsi (l. dorsi), shipping weight and hot carcass weight. Differences were comparable whether black versus red coat colour or MC1R genotype were used as the criteria for the group of cattle. Key words: Coat colour, MC4R, MC1R, α-MSH, shipping weight

Holstein steers (10 per group) were given either 85% grass hay and 15% concentrate (group 1), the same diet with added rumen undegradable protein to raise the overall protein level from 120 to 130 g kg−1 (group 2), or 85% concentrate and 15% grass hay (group 3) until they were slaughtered at 500 kg. Extractable fat in separable muscle was greatest for steers in group 3, least for steers in group 2, and intermediate for those in group 1. Loin-eye area was less for steers in groups 1 and 2 than for those in group 3. Carcasses were a larger proportion of empty liveweight in steers in group 3 than in those in groups 1 and 2 due primarily to increased adipose tissue in the front quarter. In comparison with steers on a mainly hay diet, a hay diet supplemented with rumen undegradable protein did not affect the composition of the carcass although it increased the rate of gain from weaning to slaughter. Key words: Carcass, composition, nondegradable, protein, steer
