BACKGROUND: In the tourism industry, people with disabilities (PwD) are frequently excluded from certain activities. The Internet is one of the most used information sources for planning tourism trips. However, the level of accessibility of information disseminated by the tourism industry through websites is still very low. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to explore the existence of diversity in Web accessibility in the tourism industry. METHODS: A systematic literature review method was used for the identification, selection, and evaluation of the published research on Web accessibility in the tourism industry. A set of 40 papers obtained from relevant scientific databases, and complemented with a snowballing effect, was synthesized and analyzed. RESULTS: Low levels of diversity of Web accessibility were found in the different tourism activities analyzed. The majority of studies published in this field are relatively recent and both manual and automated methods were employed. Web accessibility failures were mainly related to lack of connectivity with assistive technologies, complex layout, and navigation difficulties. CONCLUSION: The results obtained in this systematic literature review provide important contributions to increase knowledge of Web accessibility in the tourism industry. Moreover, practical and theoretical contributions can help Web developers creating more accessible tourism websites.

Co-creation of services in tourism industry is accorded in this work as a shared-responsibility by the service providers, local communities, and tourists who interact and collaborate to co-produce improved service offerings for a valuable experience. The process of creating improved services involves a state of harmony and balance within and among the tourism elements such as ecology, culture, and human resources for the protection, preservation, and sustainability of the tourism environment. People attach notable value to experiences, and tourism is one of the greatest sources of life experiences. From this perspective, the authors, through systematic literature review, attempted to align the emerging concept of creating value in service ecosystem to tourism for a more meaningful touristic experience.

The tourism industry has received increasing attention as it has become one of the fastest developing business sectors around the world. Service quality in tourism has come to be regarded as an important impetus for economic growth; however, the focus on tourism service quality has not yet been satisfactorily or comprehensively reviewed. Therefore, we conducted a systematic literature review combining bibliometric, citation network and keyword network analysis. We selected the top five tourism journals from the SCOPUS database and then collected papers according to their keywords. Our results revealed the critical issues, topics, and changes over time regarding research on tourism service quality. The critical issues included the important impact of service quality on tourist behavior and service quality evaluation, and topics comprised (1) tourist satisfaction, (2) sustainable issues in tourism, (3) value of service quality for customers, (4) restaurant service quality, (5) customers’ perceptions of tourism, (6) service quality evaluation in tourism, and (7) service quality’s influence on customer behavior. Furthermore, the keyword network analysis results revealed the most influential keywords.

This article describes a systematic literature review (SLR), a methodology to be used in the survey of articles, monographs, dissertations and theses, in scientific databases, to provide a reference bibliography for the construction of multimedia learning objects applied to Stewart platforms, using Software Engineering methods. The bases existent in the literature between the years of 2009 and 2012 were analyzed. The methodology used was based on the adaptation of a revision protocol that suggests for a good SLR, to follow some steps, being: planning, primary reading, formulation of questions for checking if the work fits the subject and classification. The use of SLR assisted in the bibliographic survey process bringing successful results and relevant publications with high impact factors, thus making a solid basis for several works in the research fields.

The main purpose of the article is to identify the state of knowledge between two multidimensional phenomena: commercialization of innovation and internationalization. In terms of research methods, a systematic literature review, based on the 91 publications located in reputable scientific databases (Scopus and Web of Science) between the years 2000–2017 and Rapid Automatic Keyword Extraction (RAKE), was applied. The main findings provide information on the concept of commercialization of innovations via internationalization, and specifically on different research perspectives and areas of analysis with division of the bibliometric data. The selection of the articles for further analysis is perceived as the main limitation of this study, as some papers may not have been included due to missing keywords or due to having been absent from the two selected databases. The article analyses theoretical research and empirical papers and enables identification of problems in the current research as well as identifying trends in the area of the studied phenomenon. The results on the topic of commercialization of innovation through internationalization have indicated that this issue is still in a premature phase but with an upward trend of research development.

Applying the concepts of technological ecosystems to the care and assistance domain is an emerging field that has gained interest during the last years, as they allow to describe the complex relationships between actors in a technologically boosted care domain. In that context, this paper presents a systematic review and mapping of the literature to identify, analyse and classify the published research carried out to provide care and assistance services under a technological ecosystems’ perspective. Thirty-seven papers were identified in the literature as relevant and analysed in detail (between 2003–2018). The main findings show that it is indeed an emerging field, as few of the found ecosystem proposals have been developed in the real world nor have they been tested with real users. In addition, a lot of research to date reports the proposal of platform-centric architectures developed over existing platforms not specifically developed for care and services provision. Employed sensor technologies for providing services have very diverse natures depending on the intended services to be provided. However, many of these technologies do not take into account medical standards. The degree of the ecosystems’ openness to adding new devices greatly depends on the approach followed, such as the type of middleware considered. Thus, there is still much work to be done in order to equate other more established ecosystems such as business or software ecosystems.

The main objective of the chapter is to provide an insight into the motivation mechanisms for the crowd to participate in crowdsourcing projects. For this to happen, the authors investigate the factors which have been suggested in the literature as influencing the motivation of the crowd and the task type in each study in the related literature and contrasted the motivation factors in various contexts. The systematic literature review method has been used for the purpose of this study. This involved a comprehensive search in five scientific databases which resulted in 575 papers. This initial pool of studies has been refined in various rounds and ended in identification of 37 studies which directly targeted the topic of motivation in crowdsourcing. The study introduces various categories of motivations and investigates the factors which have been utilized in each context. Finally, possible implications for practice and potential research gaps are discussed.

Big data enriches the experiences of cultural tourism visitors as well as being used in the management, presentation, and protection of cultural heritage. Technological innovations and the production of more data every day have increased the importance of data and information in competition in the tourism industry. For this, since it is seen that it is important to examine issues such as big data and analytics in cultural tourism, this book chapter presents the studies in the related research area in detail. As a result of the systematic literature review, data types that can be the basis for the formation of big data in cultural tourism and technologies that can support are specified. In addition, researches on cultural heritage and cultural tourism were examined, and theoretical and practical suggestions were presented.
