One impediment to the uptake of linked data technology is developers’ unfamiliarity with typical Resource Description Framework (RDF) serializations like Turtle and RDF/XML. JSON for Linking Data (JSON-LD) is designed to bypass this problem by expressing linked data in the well-known Javascript Object Notation (JSON) format that is popular with developers. JSON-LD is now Google’s preferred format for exposing Schema.org structured data in web pages for search optimization, leading to its widespread use by web developers. Another successful use of JSON-LD is by the International Image Interoperability Framework (IIIF), which limits its use to a narrow design pattern, which is readily consumed by a variety of applications. This presentation will show how a similar design pattern has been used in Audubon Core and with Biodiversity Information Standards (TDWG) controlled vocabularies to serialize data in a manner that is both easily consumed by conventional applications, but which also can be seamlessly loaded as RDF into triplestores or other linked data applications. The presentation will also suggest how JSON-LD might be used in other contexts within TDWG vocabularies, including with the Darwin Core Resource Relationship terms.

BACKGROUND: In the tourism industry, people with disabilities (PwD) are frequently excluded from certain activities. The Internet is one of the most used information sources for planning tourism trips. However, the level of accessibility of information disseminated by the tourism industry through websites is still very low. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to explore the existence of diversity in Web accessibility in the tourism industry. METHODS: A systematic literature review method was used for the identification, selection, and evaluation of the published research on Web accessibility in the tourism industry. A set of 40 papers obtained from relevant scientific databases, and complemented with a snowballing effect, was synthesized and analyzed. RESULTS: Low levels of diversity of Web accessibility were found in the different tourism activities analyzed. The majority of studies published in this field are relatively recent and both manual and automated methods were employed. Web accessibility failures were mainly related to lack of connectivity with assistive technologies, complex layout, and navigation difficulties. CONCLUSION: The results obtained in this systematic literature review provide important contributions to increase knowledge of Web accessibility in the tourism industry. Moreover, practical and theoretical contributions can help Web developers creating more accessible tourism websites.

There are a growing number of jobs related to web development, yet there is little formal literature about the accessibility of web development with a screen reader. This article describes research to explore (1) web development accessibility issues and their impact on blind learners and programmers; (2) tools and strategies used to address issues; and (3) opportunities for creating inclusive web development curriculum and supportive tools. We conducted a Comprehensive Literature Review (CLR) to formulate accessibility issue categories, then interviewed 12 blind programmers to validate and expand on both issues in education and practice. The CLR yielded five issue categories: (1) visual information without an accessible equivalent, (2) orienting, (3) navigating, (4) lack of support, and (5) knowledge and use of supportive technologies. Our interview findings validated the use of CLR-derived categories and revealed nuances specific to learning and practicing web development. Blind web developers grapple with the inaccessibility of demonstrations and explanations of web design concepts, wireframing software, independent verification of computed Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), and navigating browser-based developer tool interfaces. Tools and strategies include seeking out alternative education materials to learn independently, use of CSS frameworks, collaboration with sighted colleagues, and avoidance of design and front-end development. This work contributes to our understanding of accessibility issues specific to web development and the strategies that blind web developers employ in both educational and applied contexts. We identify areas in which greater awareness and application of accessibility best practices are required in Web education, a need to disseminate existing screen reader strategies and accessible tools, and to develop new tools that support Web design and validation of CSS. Finally, this research signals future directions for the development of accessible web curriculum and supportive tools, including solutions that leverage artificial intelligence, tactile graphics, and supportive-online communities of practice.

Ontology is an important aspect of the semantic web, which is why semantic web developers are interested in constructing ontology in various applications based on domain experts. By transforming an existing application database into ontology, we many construct ontologies without having to hire an expert in the field. Model-driven engineering is the foundation of the suggested strategy (MDE). In a nutshell, the technique is divided into two phases, the first of which attempts to prepare the data needed for the transformation in the form of a model with a database. A compliance relationship between this model and its meta-model is required. Phase (2) applies a set of rules written in the Atlas Transformational Language to change the model produced in the first phase into another model, which is an OWL ontology (ATL). We tested our solution using a set of databases created specifically for this purpose and built it in an eclipse environment using an EMF and ATL transform language. The acquired findings demonstrate the strength and efficacy of the recommended strategy.

AimsTo create an e-learning course to promote awareness of differential attainment and encourage supervisors to reflect on their own experiences and practice.MethodFunding was gained from Health Education England to create the e-learning course. A questionnaire was constructed to gauge baseline knowledge and attitudes towards differential attainment amongst the consultant body. All consultants attending a local Faculty Day were asked to respond, and following this an explorative discussion on the topic was chaired by the authors. The results of the survey were collated and free-text answers were coded thematically. In parallel, information from academic publications and professional resources was gathered and summarised. A script was created with support from web developers Kineo and was refined over several drafts. The e-learning module was published on the Oxleas learning environment on the 10th February 2021.Result34 supervisors responded to our questionnaire. 75% had heard of DA, with 45% identifying personal experience of it. However only 35% identified it as a problem in their work place and 39% did not consider it in their clinical practice. Thematic analysis of free text comments revealed three main themes – emotions and experiences associated with differential attainment, a desire for increased training and a desire for more open discussions with struggling trainees. Some answers also revealed poor or incomplete understanding of the topic. From the questionnaire and the literature, four key areas were identified – defining differential attainment, describing the scope of the problem, challenging misconceptions about differential attainment and the role of the social network in attainment. These four areas became section titles for the e-learning course.ConclusionThere is an appetite for information pertaining to differential attainment amongst our consultant body. A trainer facing e-learning course was created to promote awareness and reflection on current practice. Evaluation of the impact of the module is ongoing. The course is being shared with the confederation of South London local education providers.

The main channel for the distribution of retail goods is gradually becoming the Internet. It is also a binding distribution channel for the sale of fashion goods. It allows the retailer to take opportunity not only to post photos, video and audio material showcasing their latest collections, but also to sell the goods directly to the consumer through a website. In Latvia, the purchase of goods in the Internet is growing very fast, especially during the Covid - 19 restrictions, when the purchase of goods in stores is restricted. Throughout Europe and especially in Latvia the crisis caused by Covid-19 has led to the questions, such as - what to do now, what should change and what decisions should be made by fashion retailers so that employees and buyers are not so vulnerable in such unpredictable force majeure situations? According to data from the Interactive Media Retail Group, for example, the UK's online retail turnover increased by 42% in September 2020, by 35.7% in October and by 39% in November compared to the previous year. The aim of this article is to analyze researches about online fashion retailers conducted by US and British researchers and the results of surveys among Chinese and Latvian students. The questions included in the researches and surveys are: Who sells fashion items online? Who helps to create a good fashion website? How do fashion retailers design websites? Who buys online? Conclusions and proposals have been made for retail web developers in Latvia.
