DISTANCE EDUCATION AND THE EDUCATOR OF THE 21ST CENTURY ABSTRACT Many are the conflicts in the academies that oppose (or favor) distance education, without at least a theoretical-methodological-practical approach to the limits and possibilities that this modality can cause in the teaching-learning process. Thus, this work aims, through a bibliographical research, to verify how distance education is being perceived by scholars in the literature, for this, authors such as Belloni (2001), Demo (2007), Morin (2001), Fróes (1999) ); Gouvêa (2006), among others, were read and their ideas presented. In order to better understand this modality, we deal with its historicity, origin, limits and possibilities, dates and events in the world and in Brazil, then some positions on the role of educators and / or tutors and counselors, and how the professionals of this modality understand the teaching-learning process, so that when teaching truly happens, learning happens. Another important issue addressed in this article is the language of communication technologies as one of the factors that influence the performance of the educator in this modality of teaching. It is concluded that distance learning is not something new and should not be analyzed by Manichean attitudes, that is, as something totally good or totally bad. There is a need for competence (s) to design quality education, whether at a distance or not, so as not to offer only cheap "perfumeries" to be marketed, since education is increasingly an inalienable and essential right for the society.

All of us know that COVID-19 outbreak has brought the world in a standstill. Nobody had imagined such a Pandemic threatening the whole world. Even the most powerful countries are helpless in such a critical situation. This Pandemic has badly affected every group and section of society. We are in a limbo, trying to decide what to do next, how to move ahead. Man is shocked socially, psychologically, economically and so on. This crisis has left everyone in the lurch. Students are uncertain about their future. Youth are afraid of Unemployment. Education system is affected greatly due to sudden closure of institutions. Initially neither teachers nor students were mentally prepared to face such a lockdown situation. Everyone was confused at continuity of teaching-learning process. But necessity is the mother of invention. We chose on-line method of teaching / through social media to continue teaching –learning process. However, the on-line education was already present but it was not in vogue before this COVID-19 lockdown. Every teacher was not techno-savvy, he was techno-shy but situations have forced us to adopt on-line system. It is said that every tragedy brings some opportunities also. One must learn lesson in the present scenario and mentally prepared for future also. This Pandemic has developed culture of on-line education, work from home. But use of technology has both silver and dark sides. Technology has occurred as a fillip to continue our learning process, we are moving towards information-rich society, on the contrary we have become slave of technology and affecting our health also.

The 21st century has witnessed significant changes in the context of language teaching or learning as the world is increasingly globalized and digitalized. Therefore, students in vocational colleges are demanded to learn the skills to be able to survive and succeed in today’s world as both a local and global citizen. The objective of this study was to implement the role-plays’ technique of video recording to improve the student’s speaking ability. In conducting the research, there were two components expected to be improved, namely the teaching-learning process to be conducive and the students’ speaking scores. By applying classroom action research, data were collected in two cycles of learning. The result of the speaking test revealed that the students had made some progress, which was shown by the increase of students’ average speaking scores. The improvement of the scores was also followed by the increase of students learning interest and motivation in a conducive teaching-learning atmosphere.

Abstract – To connect with the students of the 21st century, lecturers must understand their characteristics and know how to motivate them. Traditional approach, i.e., lecture-based approach, is usually not an effective approach in this century. At the School of Information Technology (SIT), we bring in stakeholders in education, such as alumni and professionals to help us in the teaching-learning process. It shows that stakeholder involvement in teaching and learning complements the traditional approach in education.

During the COVID-19 pandemic HyFlex teaching/learning has increasingly grown into a crucial feature of education. My strong conviction is the integration of information technology in education will be further accelerated and online education has eventually become an integral component of the present-day education. Despite the drawbacks, there are some obvious benefits to leveraging a HyFlex course model. It allows students more flexibility than ever before, meaning they can adjust and adapt as needed to accommodate their schedules (in our case, being in Ukraine or abroad). It also gives students access to a greater breadth of learning materials than they would otherwise receive. It is worth mentioning that after Covid-19 the world and education has changed dramatically, with the distinctive rise of e-learning, whereby teaching is undertaken remotely and on digital platforms. This resulted in the largest “online movement” in the history of education. Importantly, research suggests that online learning has been shown to increase retention of information and less time-consuming, means the changes Coronavirus have caused will be here to stay.

Progress in information technology that is so fast is expected to improve the quality of education in Indonesia. In the world of information technology education can help and support the learning process. Especially now all the learning process activities can be done online. Progress in information technology must also be supported by quality human resources. In this case the teacher is very instrumental in the utilization of information technology in the world of education. Because the teacher is one of the education supervisors who will encourage the advancement of the quality of education in Indonesia. But in reality the quality of teachers in Indonesia is inadequate. There are still many teachers who cannot use information technology in learning especially for teachers who are senior or old. As teacher supervisors, they must improve the quality of their performance in using technology. To improve the ability of teachers to use technology, ongoing training is needed to use technology. The role of the head of the school as a supervisor is also needed, namely the principal is obliged to supervise, control, and approach the teacher in terms of the use of technology in the learning process.

The convergence of computing, communications, and traditional educational technologies enables us to discuss, plan, create, and implement fundamentally unique strategies for providing access to people and information. The scientific process is used as an approach to teaching-learning through discovery. Over the last several years, SUNY Plattsburgh, like many universities across the world, has created a technology environment on campus which provides ubiquitous access to both on- and off-campus information resources for faculty and students. The article describes the development of a teaching-learning module in biology which makes creative use of the Internet and other communications and computing media. This example is placed in the context of strategies which must be employed—both locally and globally—in order to realize the authors' vision of the 21st century classroom-scholarship environment.

The rapid development of ICT is constantly calling for society and economics, as well as our way of life. This tendency is being intensified these days by the transformation of the basic lifestyles, tasks and roles besides the changes of the education system and its components. The major shifts in technical and technological advancements have resulted in the development of the learning environment and the spread of digital learning therefore required the adjustment of learning forms and fundamental principles). Its signs are primarily visible in the changes of the classical teaching-learning methods, the redefining of the learning environment and the shifts of different roles.
