Abstract A major cause of local to total damages is related to structural pounding in a large number of past earthquakes. In general, these collisions take place as a result of differences in the dynamic characteristics of the colliding structures. To acquire a better perception of the behavior of structures, in this paper, three structures featuring different heights are modeled in series and with various configurations next to each other in OpenSees. To determine the collision effects of the structures, three different configurations of 4-, 8- and 12-story adjacent reinforced concrete special moment resisting frames were considered. Then, by conducting an incremental dynamic analysis, their structural seismic limit state capacities were assessed via 20 near-field record subsets recommended by FEMA-P695. At last, for the above adjacent buildings with various separation distances and configurations, the fragility curves were determined, and the probability of exceedance from the primary Hazus-MH failure criteria was estimated. In addition, the results were compared with those obtained when this phenomenon did not take place for buildings to have a better perception of the pounding phenomenon. The results of the analyses show that arranging adjacent structures in series greatly affects the collapse capacities of the colliding structures. In addition, in the case when the shorter structure is placed in the middle of two taller structures, it results in the most critical situation among all configurations, and in this case, a higher reduction is observed in the structural performance levels.

On the one hand the COVID-19 pandemic is seen as a disaster that has had a massive impact on various aspects of life, but on the other hand it is considered as momentum to urge the public organizations to be more innovative and adaptive in adapting to various types of new conditions and adjustments. Many studies have explored public sector innovation, especially in normal circumstances. While studies on the public sector innovation in a critical situation have not caught much attention from academics. This study aimed to fill the gap by analyzing the public sector innovation in South Sumatra as one of the provinces with the highest number of COVID-19 cases in Indonesia. There was a total of 16 innovations in this study. Content analysis was conducted to determine the types, categories, innovators, and challenges faced. The researchers found that the organizations that innovate (innovators) consisted of city governments, regency governments, provincial governments, central government representatives, and the community. Meanwhile, for the innovation category, the researchers found more innovations with types of public services and health information. The researchers also found three types of innovation categories in South Sumatra including mass/social resilience, quick response/quick wins, and public knowledge. Lastly, the challenges in implementing the innovation which includes public awareness, human resources, financial, facilities and infrastructure, and time. Academically, this study contributes to the understanding of public sector innovation in a critical situation, that innovation in such condition is an innovation that was made for pragmatic purposes and it won’t last. It is only adjusted to the situations that force people to implement physical distancing to each other.

Terrorism involving adolescents in Indonesia has been started since 2009. Currently, the number has reached about 16.5% of the total number of terrorism cases in Indonesia. Referring to this critical situation, we gathered experts in radicalism and terrorism issues in two focus group discussions (FGD) to examine the situation of adolescents and radicalism and terrorism in Indonesia, the vulnerability factors of adolescents, and the prevention strategies that can be done in the future. As a result, we find that radicalism has penetrated in young groups in Indonesia, even at an earlier age. This situation is supported by their vulnerability as an adolescent, including physical, psychological, and psychosocial vulnerabilities. Physical changes that happen in adolescence impact on psychological and psychosocial changes. In general, the need for self-existence becomes the source of all their vulnerabilities. Adolescent efforts to achieve their self-existence in society place them at risk of becoming the target of recruitment by radical and terror groups. Therefore, in the context of preventing radicalism and terrorism among adolescents in Indonesia, alternative identity is important to be pursued further.

Urban tourism is identified as one of the main destinations of the XXI century. Its intensification is associated with overcoming the critical situation in the industry, which will require expanding the variety of tourist products. The potential opportunity for this matter will include active involvement of botanical resources in them, which will enable increasing interest for the existing projects as well as selecting the most promising ones. It is noted that vegetation cover is an integral component of all urbanized territories not used in the full volume in the tourist product of cities despite the resources’ high potential. Cartographic method is presented as the universal, informative, visual and operational-predictive one. The purpose of the study was to create a cartographic interpretation of the botanical resources potential usage for urban tourism development using the example of Khabarovsk. For the first time, a map “Objects with high potential of botanical resources for tourism development in Khabarovsk” (scale 1

The modern technogenic civilization is faced with global problems in the form of a threat to the further development of mankind. In connection with the critical situation, the principle of sustainable urban development was put forward as the main form of population settlement at this historical stage. The authors identified the problem of organizing temporary ecovillages to overcome the pandemic, and in general - to compensate for the lack of a clean ecological environment in relation to urban residents.

The goal of the article is to indicate the reasons why formulating a new Russian non-imperial identity has failed. Applying the Ontological Security Theory shows the fall of the USSR as a critical situation that undermined the so-called fundamental questions of the Russian identity. The return of the imperial discourse was triggered by ontological anxiety connected to two fundamental questions: social relations with the significant Other and the finitude. The article discusses in detail the latter. Pending anxiety has activated imperial habitus, which is illustrated by the case of the Russian Geographical Association.

Abstract Language use in social crisis situations is usually described as being highly ideological, and it exhibits features of affect involving the use of negative evaluation of the perceived social enemies. The present study aims to explore the characters’ language use in Ray Bradbury’s short story entitled The Last Night of the World from a pragma-stylistic perspective. The fictional dialogue that takes place between the two protagonists creates and reflects the dynamics between them, where the unspeakable is only inferred rather than communicated. The analysis reveals special features of verbal communication in a crisis situation, especially focusing on the lexical and morphosyntactic properties, as well as on the verbal interaction and cooperation between the characters revealing their alignment. The results of the analysis prove that the verbal and non-verbal communication between the protagonists do not show the features described in crisis communication; therefore, the text of the story can be interpreted as subverting the generic language use in a critical situation.

The Tancítaro peak is located in the State of Michoacán in Mexico. The current situation of unsustainable consumption of water resources can lead the region to a critical situation if adequate measures are not taken. An improvement in water management involving paying for the use of these resources could improve the situation. This work aims to propose a model allowing obtaining an equilibrium price of the use of water in the Tancítaro area. For this, experts will be consulted among the users of the water and experts among those who currently the right to use it, that is, inhabitant of the reserve area. The use of the Fuzzy logic will allow them to express their willingness to pay and collect data, not in a dichotomous way, but by grading their opinions. The use of Ordered Weighted Average (OWA) will allow the aggregation of these opinions bearing in mind different degrees of optimism or pessimism. The results obtained show an equilibrium price of $ 0.49 m-3 . It should be noted that these are preliminary results and the main objective of the work is the presentation of a methodological proposal.
