<p>A determination location for residential areas was influenced by physical factors, accessibility, socioeconomics, existing land use conditions, etc. Binjai is a municipality that has the <em>highest population</em><em> </em>growth and resulting in the development of settlement highest growth. It is necessary to analyze land suitability for settlement development that provides appropriate residential location direction to realize productive and effective land use by utilizing Geographic Information Technology (GIS). This study aims to analyze residential development direction in Binjai as well as determine potential location into a residential area by considering carrying land capacity, land use effectiveness, and productivity. The suitability land capacity analysis for settlements development results: Very High (ST) 2,616.12 Ha, High (T) 4,295.65 Ha, Medium (S) 2,332.15 Ha, Low (R) 465.67 Ha, and Very Low (SR) 65.16 Ha. Suitability effectiveness analysis for settlements development results: Very High (ST) 4,560.08 Ha, High (T) 2,636.54 Ha, Medium (S) 1,533.04 Ha, Low (R) 417.36 Ha, and Very Low (SR) 167.65 Ha. Conformity analysis productivity utilization for settlements development results; Very High (ST) 4,216.52 Ha, High (T) 2,036.35 Ha, Medium (S) 1,249.72 Ha, Low (R) 1,122.23 Ha, and Very Low (SR) 451.52 Ha.</p>

Social interaction refers to the communication among people within one particular area. This act can be recognized and done through simple talk or even through equipment that is commonly used these days, such as televisions, radios, telephones, and all kinds of transportation. Activities also help people to know and become a part of a community, by working and being involved in the same things, such as traditional community festivals, community development, and so on. These activities should be done continually as part of the system of social interaction. Social integrative mechanism means the existence of those who take part in running or working in a communication role, which leads to the interaction among people within a community; social control mechanisms such as laws and norms, organizations or groups within the community, including interest groups for economic or social benefit; communication, transportation, and meeting places such as a community centers. The definitions above are used to explain the patterns of social interaction and integrative mechanisms in communities in the northern Bangkok extended metropolitan region. Prachathipat, Klong-Song, Chiang-RakYai, and Pued-Udom in Pathumthani province were used as case studies. Research results reveal that communities in the northern Bangkok extended metropolitan region are transitioning from rural to urban type at different paces and to different degrees due to physical factors, i.e. , geographical setting, location, distance from the city, and accessibility. In addition, the differences are also due to socio-economic factors, i.e., age, sex, religion, educational level, occupation, income, and duration of stay of community residents, who are mostly comprised of two groups: old-timers and new-comers. In conclusion, three types of communities revealing different patterns of social interaction and integrative mechanisms are found in this area. The first type consists of communities exhibiting low-intensity land use, mostly as residential areas, located on agricultural land. Almost all of the residents are old-timers and have primary social interaction within the family and among friends. The level of social integration is high and integrative mechanisms are informal. The second type is communities with more intense and diverse land use than the first type. The old-timers in these communities begin to have "urban type" social interactions, with rather high levels of social integration through both formal and informal integrative mechanisms. The newcomers in these communities engage in "urban type" social interactions just to gain convenience and safety in living and working. The third are communities with highly intense and diverse activities and land use. Among old-timers in these communities, there is almost no trace of "rural type " social interaction, while integrative mechanisms are both formal and informal. Among newcomers, social interaction is the same as in the second type of community with a low level of integration and mostly formal integrative mechanisms.

Urban flooding is getting attention due to its adverse impact on urban lives in mega cities of the developing world particularly Pakistan. This study aims at finding a suitable methodology for mapping urban flooded areas to estimate urban flooding vulnerability risks in the cities of developing countries particularly Lahore, Pakistan. To detect the urban flooded vulnerability and risk areas due to natural disaster, GIS-based integrated Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) is applied for the case of Lahore, which is the second most populous city and capital of the Punjab, Pakistan. For the present research, the flood risk mapping is prepared by considering these significant physical factors like elevation, slope, and distribution of rainfall, land use, density of the drainage network, and soil type. Results show that the land use factor is the most significant to detect vulnerable areas near roads and commercial areas. For instance, this method of detection is 88%, 80% and 70% accurate for roads, commercial and residential areas. The methodology implemented in the present research can provide a practical tool and techniques to relevant policy and decision-makers authorities to prioritize and actions to mitigate flood risk and vulnerabilities and identify certain vulnerable urban areas, while formulating a methodology for future urban flood risk and vulnerability mitigation through an objectively simple and organizationally secure approach.

The Benggaila watershed disembogues into Kendari Bay, the upper part was dominated by forest areas and the middle and downstream parts were dominated by residential areas. Its location in the capital city of Southeast Sulawesi causes a very high change in land use and social culture in the watershed. This study aimed to determine changes in land use and community socio-cultural activities in the period 2004 to 2019. The results showed that changes in land use during that year range were very high. Changes from agricultural land and forest to the settlement were 67.4% dominate the other changes. This condition causes a shift in the socio-cultural pattern of society. The people of origin who lived in the downstream and middle of the watershed were moved to the upstream, while the immigrants stayed downstream of the watershed. These changes have also changed the patterns and methods of farming as well as behavior in utilizing forests. Soil and water conservation efforts were carried out by integrating changes in land use and the current social conditions of the community through adequate land planning and the community's mindset in utilizing the land.

In certain cases, the conversion of paddy fields is unavoidable. Nevertheless, the change in land use must consider various aspects of the feasibility of development, both legal aspects, physical aspects of the area, the environment and others.The objectives are to, analyze the implementation of the policy on the transfer of agricultural land into residential areas, and analyze the factors that support and hinder the implementation of the policy. The type of research used is descriptive qualitative, using primary and secondary data. Data collection methods are interviews, in-depth (Indep interview) and direct discussion or Focus Group Discussion (FGD), observation and literature review. The results of the study indicate that the activity of land conversion into a residential area in West Lombok Regency has been guided by the Regional Regulation and Regional Spatial Planning (RSP) No. 11 / 2011. The use of agricultural land for residential areas has been regulated in the determination of the spatial pattern of residential areas in urban areas. and rural areas, the inhibiting factor in implementing the land use change policy is the absence of a detailed regional spatial planning plan and the limited number of field officers. The supporting factors are the Regional Spatial Planning Coordination Team, which is coordinated by the Regional Secretary. The recommendation given is to immediately issue a Detailed Spatial Plan so that there is an even distribution of housing areas. It is necessary to make a regional regulation that specifically examines and regulates the conversion of land functions.

Flood disaster has some influences towards residential area. The effect of flood towards residential area needs to be investigated to determine the correct allocation of residential development space for the people who live in a flood-prone area. This research aims to develop a map of flood-prone areas for the sake of residential development evaluation in Baraba district, Hulu Sungai Tengah Regency, South Borneo.The purposive sampling technique was used to select the research area. The unit analysis is some districts and included in the flood-prone areas. To determine the sample based on flood-prone level, the stratified sampling was used.The result of the research shows that most of the investigated areas prone to flood. A secure location for resident should utilize the land in accordance with the criteria of safe and appropriate settlement layout. The low-prone and safe areas can be used for the space allocation of residential areas development in order to be safer from flooding.

The increasing of malaria cases in recent years at Kecamatan Kalibawang has been suspected correspond with the conversion of farming land-use which initiated in 1993. Four years after the natural vegetation in this area were changed become cocoa and coffee commercial farming estates, the number of malaria cases in 1997 rose more than six times, and in 2000 it reached 6085. This study were aimed to observe whether there were any differences in density and diversity of Anopheles as malaria vector between the cocoa and mix farming during dry and rainy seasons. The results of the study are useful for considering the appropriate methods, times and places for mosquito vector controlling. The study activities comprised of collecting Anopheles as well as identifying the species to determine the density and diversity of the malaria vector. Both activities were held four weeks in dry season and four weeks in rainy season. The mea-surement of physical factors such as temperature, humidity and rainfall were also conducted to support the study results. Four dusuns which meet the criteria and had the highest malaria cases were selected as study location. Descriptively, the results shows that the number of collected Anopheles in cocoa farming were higher compared with those in mix horticultural farming; and the number of Anopheles species identifi ed in cocoa farming were also more varied than those in the mix horticultural farming.Key words: bionomik vektor malaria, anopheles,

Sukabumi District located in Southern West Java known as a region that has diverse natural characteristics, however, it is vulnerable to disasters, especially landslides. Moreover, this study focuses on Cisolok District because this region always occurred landslides every year due to topography aspect. The aim of this study is to analyze the influence of geomorphology to landslide-prone area in Cisolok District to reduce landslides. This study used overlay analysis for geomorphology mapping, while the Frequency Ratio (FR) method used for landslide-prone area mapping. Several physical variables used in this study such as slope, elevation, lithology, geological structure, road network, stream network, land use, soil type, rainfall, and landslide location. The result shows that the study areas have diverse geomorphology units dominated by volcanic slope with steep topography. While landslide-prone area consist of four classes : namely 17,03% low, 62,05% medium, 14,4% high, and 6,51% very high. Variety of landslide vulnerability in study area influenced by terrain form, land genesis, and geomorphic process.
